I've done a lot of researching in the past trying to combat cellulite myself and they're aren't really any quick fixes but one thing that helps diminish the appearance of cellulite is skin brushing and of course massaging. I'll paste some info on skin brushing for you below if you want to try it...also certain exercises helps and I'll paste that for you also. Also for stretchmarks Emu oil and rosehip oil is good, here's an article I found on rosehip oil and emu oil:
Scientific studies show that applying the light, non-greasy oil directly onto the skin daily can reduce the appearance of stretch marks, even if they are non-recent. If applied throughout pregnancy, Rosehip oil may help prevent the development of stretch marks later on.
Stretchmark, similar acquired during pregnancy, can be prevented by application of Emu Oil. Additionally, application of Emu Oil diminishes or completely erases existing stretchmarks.
here's exercises for cellulite and info on skin brushing:
So, What Are Some Realistic Recommendations?
Several studies note that female athletes, who generally have a lower percent body fat regularly have less cellulite. So, a caloric-restricted diet plan to help reduce some of the underlying body fat should be implemented. Aerobic exercise at least 3 to 5 times a week for at least 20 to 60 minutes will help create a satisfactory caloric deficit. Choose a mode of exercise that you enjoy such as walking, jogging, aerobic dance, elliptical training, rowing, cycling, swimming or stair stepping. If available, alternate modes of aerobic exercise to regularly give your body some variety. Perhaps most essential to your exercise agenda is your resistance exercise program. The subcutaneous fat rests on top of muscle, and if the muscle is weak and flaccid, this can contribute to the ‘bumpy’ effect of cellulite. Although there isn’t one best system of sets and repetitions to firm all of your leg muscles, regularly include the following exercises in your resistance training program.
1. Squats and leg press for the buttocks and thigh muscles.
2. All types of lunges for the thighs and buttocks.
3. Hip adduction exercises for the inner thighs.
4. Hip abduction exercises for the outer thighs.
5. Leg curls for the back of the thighs.
Summary
From this review it is clear that the cause of cellulite is much more sophisticated than just saying it is extra fat underneath the skin. It is noteworthy to appreciate the fact that cellulite is a unique and distinctive layer of subcutaneous body fat that is common to females. Although numerous topical treatments and involuntary manipulative techniques may seem enticing, no research supports their long-term effectiveness. However, several studies have noted how female athletes, who typically have less body fat, seem to have much less cellulite. So, incorporating a caloric restrictive diet with aerobic exercise and resistance training has the most promising and realistic results.
Skin Brushing:
Giving your body a firm brush all over makes the skin glow by removing the top dull, dead layer of skin and encouraging new cells to regenerate. The gentle massaging motion of the bristles also has a beneficial effect on areas of cellulite, and it is an effective treatment for helping eliminate toxins from the body during a detox programe. The technique is a simple one, and you need only a body brush with natural bristles, such as those of goat or boar, or a loofah.
How to Get Started With Your Skin Brushing Regimen
1. Purchase a natural, NOT a synthetic, bristle brush. (vegetable bristle)
2. Purchase a brush with a long handle, so that you are able to reach all areas of your body. Best-case scenario would be one that had a removable head with a strap for your hand.
3. Skin brushing should be performed once a day, preferably first thing in the morning. If you are feeling ill, please do it twice a day until you feel better.
4. Skin brushing should be performed prior to your bath or shower and your body dry and naked.
5. Begin brushing your skin in long sweeping strokes starting from the bottom of your feet upwards, and from the hands towards the shoulders, and on the torso in an upward direction. Always brush towards the heart. Try and brush several times in each area, over-lapping as you go.
6. Avoid sensitive areas and anywhere the skin is broken.
7. After brushing your skin, rinse off in the shower. Paavo Airola, author of Swedish Beauty Secrets, recommends alternating temperatures in the shower from hot to cold. This will further invigorate the skin and stimulate blood circulation, bring more blood to the outer layers of the skin.
8. After getting out of the shower, dry off vigorously and massage your skin with pure plant oil, such as almond, jojoba, sesame or coconut. We like to use a small amount of Euro Organic Oil which is a blend of sunflower, almond, apricot, avocado, and jojoba oils.
9. Don’t forget to clean your skin brush using soap and water once a week. After rinsing, dry your skin brush in an open, sunny spot to prevent mildew.
10. For a thorough lymphatic cleansing, perform skin brushing daily for a minimum of three months.
Caution: Do not brush on or over skin rashes, wounds, cuts, infections, poison oak or poison ivy.
Note: Any well designed program will take about 30 days to see and experience the changes. Please be patient and keep up the program!
Tips for Skin Brushing
To brush your skin, start at you feet and sweep up the legs in long, light brisk movements. All skin brushing movements should be towards the heart, to encourage the return of blood and encourage lymphatic flow. Pay particular attention to the cellulite-prone areas like your thighs. Brush your abdomen with a circular motion. It should take about three to five minutes, depending on how many strokes you give each spot. Don’t be too rough. Overbrushing causes the skin to turn red and become irritated
Do it first thing in the morning, when the increased blood flow will help wake you up, or before you take a shower.
This is good info, I will try both of those oils to see if it works on stretch marks. As for the skin brushing, I'm unmotivated at the moment, and if I bought the brush right now, it would sit on the shelf with the body wrap book and the lemonade cleanse ingredients.
Michelle, do you think body wraps would help with cellulite?
I had some cellulite in the butt area, but it just about went away when I was walking 2 miles a day last year. SO that is proof that exercise does help. A little has come back since I have been lazy for two months. I also heard that caffeine is the main ingredient in cellulite creams that give you a small amount of improvement. I read somewhere where you take used coffee grounds mixed with lotion (maybe the oils Michelle mentioned and kill two birds with one) and massage in circles are the area with cellulite. Never tried it, but it was in a magazine so it must be true? lol.
Alcest, good luck with the skin brushing..I notice a difference in my skin since starting it about 2months ago...my skin actually feels nice afterwards, kinda refreshing, I guess cause it gets all the blood flowing and it can get toxins out. The cellulite on my butt and underneath my butt is not as bad as it was so it is helping. I've read about it on the beboard also with it helping with NBE, something to do with stimulating the fats to move and hopefully get them to move to the boobs I think???? Kinda like what Emmie is doing by pushing the fats from her stomach up to the boobs.
Sissy, you are right I forgot about the body wraps for cellulite...since they take fluids/toxins and tighten/firm the skin. The tightening and firming of the skin would probably diminish the appearance at least of cellulite. I haven't done a body wrap in so long since my son was born, I should try it again and see if it does make even more of a difference with the cellulite.
I've also heard of the coffee thing for cellulite and it's crazy but, I had read online to mix coffee grounds and honey for cellulite and massage into the skin...so there I am standing in my bathtub rubbing this sticky, messy junk on the back of my legs and butt, covered in coffee and honey and all for nothing!! That did not work, not to mention it was the messiest stuff ever and took forever to wash it off let me tell ya, then of course I had to clean out the bathtub because it was sticking everywhere. I think something else besides honey would probably be much better and less messy, but it didn't work for me, unless I was supposed to leave it on for awhile, but I couldn't wait to wash it off after I massaged for a couple of minutes.
oh my God you girls are so funny !!!!! well I need to make it to jelly's page 3 status too you know !!!!!!! jog jog. sweat . drink cayenne stretch jog !!! colapse !..... no seriously IM doing ok ! I lost 5lbs so far sensibly and still have boob left !!!stil cant see effects of needle thing yet say you cant see till 8th to 12th week !!!!!but im working those legs nearly everyday at the gym and Im doin the detox box which is an infra red sauna suppossed to melt away cellulite along with drinking a lot of water and eating to lose fat !!! Ive just ordered st herb caps and will let you know how they go !!! but I started serum a few weeks ago and it really agrees with me so heres hoping love jellyDeee. now work those big buts girls...... heave ho !!!
brushing is also supposed to help w/ loose skin. I have the stretched out tummy from 2 pregnancies. I was doing really well brushing and all, but I have really gotten SUPER lazy about it. I also talk alfalfa regularly (4-6 tablets/day) which is supposed to be really good for bloating and swelling. (it works really well in the summer when it's really hot)
Anyways- if it really works for the skin thing- dunno. I guess I should get back on that train. Summer is just around the corner!
Henri, have you been to Dr. Howard Murad's website? There's tons of information there. I wouldn't say his products are inexpensive, but I hear his book is fabulous! I did read that he claims eating mangos will reduce the production of cellulite.
Also, this sounds like an old wives tell to me, but an old country woman with a litter of kids swears by mineral spirits for stretch marks. Fortunately mine aren't very noticable, but I kept plenty of vitiman E oil and Palmers coca butter stretch mark cream on my skin during pregnancy.
Good luck, and if you run across any cellulite miracles let us know!
Whitney ~ its funny, I managed to put all that stuff on my stomach the entire pregnancy, but not once did it cross my mind to put it on my ass. So do you know where ALL my stretch marks are? All of them or there, not a single one on my stomach or anywhere else, except my boobs because they grew so quick, but all the massaging and stuff and they are becoming much lighter.
~ Wahaika ~ I'll check the site out a little bit later. Have to get ready today, I have a meeting to go to.
Chelle ~ its funny, but I too read something about coffee mixed with something...hm.........I know it wasn't honey, it might have just been the straight used grounds or the grounds with some oil applied and let sit for a few mins and then wash off......it would be too funny if that worked ~ I might try it for a week just to see, heaven knows my dh goes through enough coffee that I wouldn't be running out all the time!!!!
I have tried the excercise part, but to no avail, it just tighten my tush and it was more noticeable. I might go ahead and invest in that body brush, but I'm really lazy so it might be a while before I actually get it, and then another while before I actually use it! But thanks Michelle for the oil info, I will look into those.
My mission right now is to get that inch off, because it seems to have made my jeans tighter. And the worst part is its only there, nowhere else, just there. AHHHHH, I think its my winter coat.............maybe I could put cayenne powder on my butt and let it concentrate on losing weight there! ;)
I've heard of women having good results for fat and cellulite reduction with Yohimburn DF, too. It does seem to work for some people.
A while ago I corresponded with a rep at the company. The newer product (Yohimburn ES) is supposed to be more effective, he wrote, but I was reluctant to buy it because it has more ingredients in it, including stimulants. I was encouraged to get ES at the time for best results, but I was still too nervous. I was told that for people who worry about being too stimulated, ES should be used in the morning only. DF, the original formula, is apparently used by male models to reduce fat on their faces!
I was also told that you have to make sure that you reduce calories and/or increase exercise to lose weight while using it. It does spot reduce, but you need to keep this in mind. It just makes the problem areas more likely to get smaller than other areas.
I ordered DF but I haven't used it yet. Shipping was very fast, though!
Hi-well i brush and its fab, i used to have bad celulite, but now i don't have it half as bad.I brush with a softer brush in the shower, for circulation.
Turn the shower cooler for a couple of min
Then brush with my harder brush and after add either my organic cellulite cream, fab stuff it has geranium and rose in it, or my vitimin e gel mixed with my aloe vera gel, it takes the edge off (red legs)

Cellulite Buster
Those expensive cellulite creams have one ingredient in common: caffeine! You can make your own cellulite treatment with caffeinated coffee grounds that works beautifully. Here’s how:
The used grounds work better if they’re warm.
1. Put some newspaper on the floor of your bathroom.
2. Mix about a quarter-cup of warm used coffee grounds with a tablespoon or so of olive oil. Stand on the paper and apply the coffee mixture to your cellulite areas using your hands or a loofah mitt. Don’t worry if a lot of the coffee mixture falls to the floor; enough will stick to your skin to do the trick.
3. Wrap the area in plastic wrap and allow to remain on for several minutes.
4. Remove wrap and brush off excess coffee mixture. Shower with warm water.
5. This procedure is most effective when repeated twice a week.
I have to say this amused me, rapped in plastic whilst massaging boobies how uterly mad would u look!!!
Im not sure if the coffee thing contradicts detoxing etc, i mean we r told to give up coffee,but hey id like 2 know if some one has tried it n what results they get.
i tried the body brushing, and rubbing coffee grinds into my legs and butt and although it helped some, it didnt get rid of what i wanted. lunges didnt work, nothing seemed to. started one exercise that really does help. laying on your stomach (like while watching tv) just bring your legs back and forth like your feet are trying to hit your back- legs all the way back down to the floor and then back again (hope it makes sense!). dont know what the proper name for this is, or a good way to describe it. just doing that (its mindless and it doesnt hurt that bad) for some reason got rid of a lot of the cellulite on my thighs and most of my butt.
thought i would share, because it helped a lot and i used to stress a lot about what i could do about all the cellulite.
AUSTRIA.- Scientists at an Austrian lingerie manufacturer have hit upon an easier way to burn off the unsightly fatty deposits all day long: tights impregnated with microcapsules of caffeine.
Palmers, a 92-year-old company based in Wiener Neudorf, spent several months developing and testing the Slim Fit 20 pantyhose. As with other brands of tights that contain skin products such as aloe vera, red algae, or seaweed, the caffeine-laced fabric is activated by body heat. The small drops of liquid, which last for four washes, boost metabolism and burn fat.
"Caffeine rubbed on the skin, like caffeine-laced anticellulite creams, would absolutely work to improve the appearance of cellulite," says dermatologist and La Jolla Spa medical director Mitchel Goldman, who conducted a study using caffeine-laced anticellulite cream. Of the 34 women in the study, 25 noticed a decrease in thigh circumference.
Tightsplease.com, the United Kingdom's largest online pantyhose store, is the sole distributor of the caffeine tights so far.

Unfortuantly ladies, these tights are sold out at the current moment, and I have no idea when they will be offering more. And they didn't list the cost, But I think I want a pair!!!!
Ginger ~ thats the info that I had on the coffee grounds!!! I am actually going to try it today just for kicks, whats it going to hurt? I have to shower today before I go out and get anything else, so I thought whats two more weeks of cellulite on my butt? I am going to put the mixture on, brush my teeth, but the acne crap on my face, and then make all the beds in the house, whilst my kids look at me like I have really lost my mind because NOW I am walking around with coffee strapped to me!!!! Realistically I am going to give this about two weeks and then see if there is a difference before I try anything else.
~~~~~~~~
Am thinking about the yohimburn stuff, but its rather costly.
I wonder how long lasting caffeine products' results are, though. Caffeine is a diuretic and there are so many weight loss products that include it because it will make you lose water so you are, indeed, smaller, but then it all comes back when you rehydrate. Caffeine also increases metabolism, though, and maybe it has other special properties, but I'm still wary of using it.
When I was ultra fit, I have almost no cellulite. I was quite slim, but some slim women have cellulite. Now I have more cellulite because I don't exercise as much and I weigh more (but I'm healthier at this weight).
I skin brush, too, but I haven't been doing it long enough to report anything.
Climbing stairs really lifts and tones the butt. I do it daily. I don't run up the stairs, I walk. I do it for about 10 minutes (up and down total). I sometimes read while I do it (I don't trip, believe it or not! :)) or listen to tunes on my iPod or do EFT. :)
A great way to drain lymph is to use a rebounder (small trampoline). I love mine! It's a really nice workout. It helps to lift the butt, too. The Needak rebounders seem to be the best. Very sturdy. :)
i posted about brushing about a month ago, so this is a good opportunity for an update!
i noticed for a little bit some "lumpiness" in the areas that i particularly concentrated on: my tummy and sides. i read up on it and it said not to worry, that was the fat cells moving about and breaking down. so i kept going... and its starting to go away. i have more energy, though i dont know if its a result from the brushing (i find it relaxing), and i think just about every time i exercise i can actually see a difference.
also i use the brushing as a way to help loosen up the fat so when i try to "move" the fat from my tummy and sides to my boobs its theoretically easier, because the fat is more broken down so the blood can move it more...
im a fan... you can look into an exercise program that incorporates skin brushing, though i havent bought it myself but i do some of the exercises from the website... the program is called t-tapp: http://www.t-tapp.com/home/
Did you learn about the way that the fat breaks down on the T-Tap site? That's what I'm trying to do when I brush and visualize - I want to move fat from other places to my breasts. I'd like to know more about how this works! I love the idea of it! :)
i cant remember if the t-tapp site mentioned it... i read it on a few of the sites when i googled skin brushing. i think it is the principle of why t-tapp incorporates it though because it helps to break the fat cells down...
if i can find the articles again ill post them... you might be able to find it though if you try google. i just put in "skin brushing" and it came up with a ton of results!
Thought I might add some "tricks" I use, regarding skin brushing and cellulite. I have intermittantly done skin brushing in the past. It's not hard, but for whatever reason, I just never got into a regular routine with it. I keep 2 water proof tupperware containers in my shower. One is filled with salt, and the second is filled with sugar. I will either "salt rub" or "sugar rub" my entire body, several times a week. I take a handful of one or the other, and add just enough water to make a slightly thick paste. I then rub/scrub this mixture all over my body. IMPORTANT: Do this before you turn the water on. I rub for several minutes, then proceed to take my shower. A great benefit, is that both mixtures dissolve nicely with water and wash down the drain with no problem.
Sugar is used if you have more sensitive skin, or you might have a sunburn.
Salt can be anything from fine grain to thick grain. The thicker the grain, the rougher it is on your skin.
I love this method, and it is really a super great exfoiliater as well. For any of you that use self-tanners. Do this before you apply your tanner, and it will last longer.
Hi my mum had some minor surgery done to her face and to get rid of any scaring she used Bio Oil. I'm not sure if anyone here has heard of it, right now its really popular in New Zealand. My friends use it during pregnancy too for any stretch marks. I've heard that it helps with old scars too.
It contains only natural herbal ingredients, no preservatives and no animal derived ingredients.
I did a bit more research in case anyone is interested:
and a non-NZ site with some reviews
WELLLLLLLL, the coffee grounds make a HUGE mess, just as reported!!! but it was really nice for exfoliating the skin! Dh commented on how soft "it" felt:-) So know of course I am thinking of using my new "cream" on my body to achieve the same feeling ~ but thinking that this was just way to messy, I went out and bought a body brush with a long handle and it detaches!!!! Now for an excuse to go and use it...........
Not giving up on the coffee yet, I figured one day doesn't really count, so I just have to remember to do it, which should be easy since I remember to massage, but no I am very scatterbrained sometimes. I think I read to use it twice a week (the coffee) so I can manage to do that!!!
Now to read up on body brushing. I think right now I am just going to concentrate on my thighs and butt.........and my arms.......and probably my stomach.........and heck might as well do the rest of me too!!!!
Will keep you posted.
Oh yeah I also started excersing too!!!
