How do you determine whether or not you've got a normal lump?

I'm pretty ignorant about this, but from what I've heard is that most lumps are normal, but some, expecially if they seem larger or if they're painful, are dangerous.

Painful doesn't always mean that its serious, it could just be an allergy to something. Larger doesn't mean it serious either. I would say if you have a really hard lump, whatever size, especially if it doesn't hurt, then you need to have it look at after a while, because I think that usually lumps that hurt aren't too much to worry about, but if after a few days they don't go away, you still need to have it looked at. Try massaging your lumps, they should disperse. Most breasts have some form of lumps to them, but do some research (ie google) and go from there........

But if you are still hesitant or unsure, go see someone about it.

oh one more thought ~ if the lump appeared like overnight, then you might have some blocked ducts. last night when massaging i noticed a really odd lump on my outer breast that kinda hurt, but kinda didn't, but i knew it wasn't there that morning, so i did some extra massaging on that one area and this morning it was gone.........

Like elle, I thought cancerous lumps don't hurt. That's why they can easily go unnoticed, because they don't hurt. That's why we are always being advised to do self-exams, because only by examining would you find a cancer, bearing in mind they don't hurt. Anyone correct me if you think this is wrong.

I know how you must feel because I went through the same thing. The lump I found turned out to be a cyst. Only a doctor can tell you for sure so definitely go see one!

i was the one with a major lump worry few months ago. it appeared overnight and diminshed actually with my last cycle. don't know what it was just kind of an area in my left breat that went sore and hard week before my period. i was panicking when it was accompanied with swollen glands in armpits as u can imagine. I think it is just probably a breastgland or tissue that gets hadrer due to massage or phase of cycle.

But of course always worth checking it out
