Well Ive been reading posts on this forum for a very long time (excellent site with alot of usefull info!). I started my NBE program just under a month ago and here's my routine:
Morning:
2 x wonderup
1 x saw palmetto
1 x chasteberry
1 x 3,6,9
Protein shake
Afternoon:
2 x wonderup
1 x Multi vit
1 x chasteberry
Evening:
2 x wonderup
1 x saw palmetto
1 x chasteberry
I ordered a protein shake...called Body Fortress Whey protein, but im really worried that this product will make me put on weight and build up my muscles which obviously i dont want happening. The only reason im taking this shake is to ensure my body has enough protein to help NBE take place. What shall i do? Is it likely that i would gain weight and "muscles" if i continue using this shake...becuase i heard its used for body builders?
You should be fine with the protein as long as you are drinking the normal recommended dosages. Most body builders drink huge amounts of protein to build muscle as the muscle feeds off of protein. I believe whey protein is a good protein to get because they carries all the "good" stuff.
You also might want to transfer your program to the program pages so it doesn't get lost in the forum.
I'm currently taking 'whey protein fruit splash' by Weider, it only has 90 calories per serving. My husband was taking a whey protein a few years ago and it had 2000 calories per serving (he was trying to gain weight). Just make sure there's a low calorie count and you shouldn't put on weight.
If I recall correctly, the recommended amount of protein for NBE was something like 45 grams a day ~ or was that your normal daily intake? If you do a search it should bring the answer up, don't have the time right now, but might be able to do it later for you.
I would stick with 1-2 drinks per day. The body can also only process so much protein at a time. And as long as you are getting the recommended amount of protein a day then you shouldn't really need too much more.
Protein is mostly used for muscle mass ~ My DH was a bodybuilder on the side, he stopped because he was just too busy with work and his current schooling. He was supposed to be taking protein to help "feed" his muscles and all that, the weight gain was more from the muscle gain ~ its not hard to explain, but my head hurts right now and I can't really think straight :-}
Protein cannot put muscles on you. It can't. You have to combine it with resistance training (weight lifting) and stress your muscles enough to cause tiny tears in the muscle fibers which the protein helps to build back up, bigger and stronger. As a female, even if you did that, you would gain very little muscle.

what buffee said.
Seriously, WHY on earth would you think that muscle would just magically grow on you by ingesting protein without lifting a weight????
I use a Body Fortress whey protein shake (from Holland and Barratt) but I only take half a dose - the full dose contains 60g of protien and i read on this forum that you can only digest a certain amount of protein at one time. Also I haven't put on any weight with it, and i put on weight increadibly easily.
Dont worry about bulding obscene muscles (espcially if your not actually lifting lol). Women dont naturally have enough testoserone to build bulky muscles- the "Hulk" women lifters you see take steriods etc. The body cannot store protien like fats sugars as energy, and any excess gets passed in urine- so make sure your drinking lots of fluids. This is of course unless your injesting massive amounts, in which case this can effect your liver, but thats a lot, and you'd know! so see if doctor if your worried.
Kiran to answer your question about the muscles, from what trainer told DH: if you excercise it will help to replenish your muslces to help prevent muscle fatigue and build them up, so anybody who excercises should add some extra protein just for replenshment. But you won't gain huge/grotesque amounts of muscle mass unless you are seriously lifting (read 4+ times a week). Steriods are usually taken after the body has reached its maximum strength, and like getting used to herbs, the body needs a change, so they add the steriods in to give them a boost, just like we do a cleanse or change our program.
By taking the normal amount of protein a day and even with some excercise you will be fine. You might feel more revived after a workout, and might noticed more muscle definition, and if you were to gain mass it would be over a couple months not days/weeks, and it wouldn't make you look like Arnold!, just more fit, and this would only be if you did light to heavy excerise. Although I believe its only light to moderate excercise they recommend for NBE ;-)
The bottom line is everybody who works out needs extra protein regardless of what they are trying to do, and most people don't get the proper daily intake of protein, let alone enough to help keep the body functioning normally with excercise. SO don't worry about it!!!
Also its a very common misconception for people to associate protein with muscle mass, as we most often hear of bodybuilders taking the protein shakes and supplements.
I have no idea what my daily intake is, but I do have 1-2 shakes a day and each one contains 24 grams of protein.
Hope all this helps, give a shout if you still have questions!!!
