For those that use cocoa butter for massage, do you use it on its own or add herbal extracts? I'm thinking of doing a few massages a day, using fenugreek, borage, red clover, and aloe in the morning and just cocoa later in the day.
Personally I first massage in my cocoa butter and then I massage my wild yam cream in right after. I found a really great cocoa butter blend at Walgreens (I'll have to look up the name when I get home) that has shea butter, vitamin E, collagen, and elastin in it as well. It contains no mineral oil, mineral oil is apparently a no-no.
Thanks! I would love to know the name of the cream you're using. Palmer's cocoa lotion was all I could find on drugstore.com, but I just noticed that it does have mineral oil. :(
I know, I too started out with Palmers and didn't realize it had mineral oil until the other day. I'll look at my jar when I get home and I'll let you know the name of it. :-)
I know a lot of people here really love palmers, and they do have different kinds so maybe there are some without mineral oil, but I have the one for stretch marks and it does contain mineral oil.
Sorry I took so long getting back on this, it's been a busy weekend. The cocoa butter cream is called Paradise Gold cocoa butter premium cream. I love it! I got mine at Walgreens. :-)
Thank you, Lisa! I am going to pick some up. :) All of the other brands were either low on cocoa butter (last on the list) or had mineral oil, so this suggestion is much appreciated! I bought some 100% pure CB and it's impossible to use -- dry and flaky and doesn't melt no matter how much I rub it between my palms.
I know what you mean, I saw the pure cocoa butter sticks in the store but it looked like it would require too much work to maybe have to melt it down or something. This cream has cocoa butter listed as the second ingredient I think, so you'll like it. Good luck! :-)

Cocoa butter vs. shea butter
February 5 2007, 8:33 PM
Instead of pure cocoa butter, could I use pure shea butter for my massages?
I use Paradise Gold (Walgreens brand)also for the same reasons, it's the only one I could find without mineral oil, and CB is close to the top of the list of ingredients. I like it alot. I also use EPO and Vit-E at night, which was recommended to me and I like that as well, and I was thinking about adding herbs to it also if I don't do something different like WU cream or PM.
Unfortunately, I was one of those who shrank alot when I tried 100% Cocoa Butter and Vit-E massages. I had been just been using Q-10 lotion and they were so plump and full before that, and I hadn't been massaging much, just a few minutes in the morning. Then I starting the CB massages at night and really put effort into it and they shrank. Maybe if I would have stuck to it things would have improved, but it freaked me out to work so hard and have it disapear with a few massages. The fullness took a week or more to come back.
That's just my story. Don't let it deter you from CB, some do really well with it. Some do well with Palmers also, so you never know what works for you until you try it.
Hi Teresina, no I haven't had more shrinkage with the new CB cream thank God! I only use it like every few days though, the rest of the time I use EPO and Vit-E, and soon I want to add olive oil and herbs, but haven't had the time or motivation to deal with the mess I think. I also was thinking about wonderup cream.
There are so many different creams and batters that are used, the only common thing is massage itself, and I'm thinking that it matters less what you massage with, and more about the massage. But I'm new here, and just learning along with you.
