Question about gelatin

For those that use gelatin and find it helps BE, have you ever tried something vegetarian? Perhaps agar-agar? Did it work the same?

I'm not keen on using bovine or porcine products but am concerned that there's no adequate substitute. I read an article explaining that seaweed and other vegetarian alternatives are actually carbohydrates, not proteins, and have no chemical similarities to real gelatin beyond texture. Sounds like the benefits would probably be lost, right?

Just wanted to get some feedback from those that have experience with this stuff. :) Thank you!

Agar agar is definitely a carb. I think it's a sugar and also contains fibre, but not any protein.

Thanks, Zoe. :) I'll keep looking for a substitute but may have to go for the real thing. Marine collagen sounds good, but I can't find a source that will ship to the U.S.

You can find it on the UK ebay and the seller does ship to the U.S.

http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/search.dll?from=R40&satitle=marine+collagen+capsules

I bought a 6 months supply and the effects are amazing :-)

Would recommend it to all women over the age of 25 as that's when your collagen levels begin to deplete. Was beginning to show signs of naso-labial lines and already they are filling back out and disappearing, but it plumps up your skin all over. It is recommended to take it with ester-C or a really good slow release vit C for optimim results.

Good luck. Hope you find some.
