Vitex doesn't necessarily promote progesterone. It balances all hormones, so that means increasing or lowering estrogen or testosterone, etc. It assists with whatever hormone needs help. Thus, a woman with balanced hormones may not necessarily get a sudden increase in progesterone, unless her progesterone levels were off to begin with.
