I'm having a hard time getting progesterone cream online. I haven't checked in stores though. Has anyone bought the cream in CA? Please let me know if you have.

When I used progesterone cream, I bought it here:

I got the stuff from GNC afterwards, and that stuff didn't seem to do anything. There could be other factors involved, but if I use progesterone cream again, it will be this stuff.

I also like the way the pump helps measure how much you are using, as opposed to scooping it out of a tub with your fingers.

Ok, thanks you guys. I'll check out the stores for some. But when I went to vitacost and some other online stores it mentioned a warning that it could not ship the cream to CA because of a proposition stating it causes CANCER! I'm a bit worried why that is, I guess I'll do a search about it and let you guys know.

Me too!

I also live in Cali, and found the same rusults-and yes, because it may cause cancer. The strange part is that I had seen some at Whole Foods the last time I was there. I was thinking of buying some too. I'll check out CVS cause it's prolly cheaper there. Scary about the cancer thing, but I plan on doing a bit more looking into that.

Good luck+

Progesterone vs. Progesterins

March 28 2007, 12:34 AM

Good article Ann, looks like synthetic Progestorin/Progesterens are the kind to avoid. I found one type of cream at my local CVS called Menopause Moisture Cream. May have looked wierd buying this along with Mother's Milk tea ;)
Anyway, here are the ingredients:
Micronized Progesterone
Red Clover Extract
Wild Yam Extract
Danelion Root and Leaf
Aloe Vera
and some other stuff

anyway, the Micronized Progesterone sounded fishy so I looked it up, found some good infor off this site:

http://www.wdxcyber.com/nmood11.htm

What is the difference between progesterone and progestogens (synthetic progesterones)?

Progesterone has the identical chemical structure to the substance made in a woman's body by the ovarian corpus luteum (gland formed after an egg is ovulated each month). Actually the progesterone is now synthetically made but it behaves as best we know, just like the body's natural progesterone once it is absorbed into the blood stream. This is to be distinguished from synthetic progesterone-like chemicals called progestogens which bind to the body's progesterone receptors and function for the most part, just like progesterone. Because they are chemically different than natural progesterone, they sometimes have side effects or actions that are different than progesterone.

Progestogens were originally developed because they were capable of being absorbed into the blood when ingested in pill form, whereas progesterone itself was not orally absorbed. Recently, however, it has been found that micronization of progesterone (making very tiny crystals of the progesterone) enhances absorption from the gastrointestinal tract. Thus micronized progesterone is now sometimes being used for menopausal hormone replacement therapy instead of progestogens. Birth control pills still have progestogens as the active progesterone-like component.

some more info

i was still concerned about the micronized part, here is what i found:

from:
http://www.project-aware.org/Managing/Hrt/progesterone.shtml

n HRT, the main purpose of taking a progestogen (progesterone or a progestin) along with estrogen is to oppose the effect of estrogen on the endometrium and prevent endometrial cancer. There are two types that can be used:

* Natural micronized progesterone: manufactured from plant sources to be bio-identical to the progesterone made by the ovaries. Available as micronized progesterone USP.
* Progestin: any of a group of hormone products that are formulated in a laboratory from progesterone or testosterone molecules and that have progesterone-like effects on the uterus

Natural micronized progesterone is manufactured in a laboratory from plants (Mexican wild yams and soy). It is called "natural" because its molecular structure is identical to the progesterone made by the ovaries. Natural progesterone is available for use in HRT, in infertility treatment, and to treat progesterone deficiency, including dysfunctional uterine bleeding (heavy periods), in premenopausal women. There is considerable evidence that natural micronized progesterone is effective for these uses and is relatively free of side effects. The principal side effects known are due to the effects of progesterone on the brain, and include sleepiness and fatigue. Excessive progesterone in relation to estrogen can reduce some beneficial estrogen effects by downregulating estrogen receptors.

Compounding pharmacies can supply micronized progesterone in sublingual tablets, oil caps, or transdermal (skin) creams.

Progestins have progesterone-like effects on the uterus, but their chemical structure differs from naturally occurring progesterone. Progestins are also manufactured in a laboratory and are derived either from progesterone or from testosterone. The testosterone-derived progestins have more androgenic properties than the progestins derived from progesterone. Progestins are much more powerful than micronized progesterone and are used in much smaller doses. They also have a longer half-life and remain in the body longer. Different progestins have somewhat different effects, although all of them are effective in opposing the effects of estrogen on the endometrium. Progestins are used in hormonal birth control products as well as to oppose estrogen in HRT. The most commonly used progestin in HRT in the U.S. is medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA), the progestin used in Prempro.

Oh no!

I had a pretty bad reaction to the cream, terrible anxiety, but my boobs are plump. It's gonna be so hard not to use it. I may just give it a go for a few days, maybe it unblanced my hormones, and after a few days they will go back to normal? Ugh, i don't know. just venting. if anyone has any advice, i sure would appreciate it.

I found progesterone cream USP from my local GNC in the United States. I specifically was looking for the USP kind and had a difficult time finding it at my 2 local health food stores. I couldn't believe GNC carried it!

I really am not well versed about the other herbs... but I do know that it is beneficial to combine PM (miroestrol) with Progesterone cream. ;-)

I got wild yam cream from vitamin world (you can order online from them as well) and have had no problems with it at all. I use it in the morning and my soy oil concoction with herbs in it in the evening. I've gotten very lazy about my herb program and at the moment probably only take fennugreek twice a day and nettle root twice a day, sometimes I remember to throw red clover into the program once or twice a day too. I've retained about a 1/2 inch growth since I started 3 months ago and I'm still growing. I think the cream and the oil I use are helping even though I get lazy with the other herbs.
