You ladies are so helpful when it comes to herbs and what they are good for so I thought you all could help me with something. What can I suggest for a friend that had a baby 3 months ago and is on the pill just to help balance her hormones?
Well I don't know anything about that but I suggest her going natural for balancing her hormones. I mean why take a prescription drug that gives you other side effects instead of just going plain natural.
Is she ok when she's on the pill? What brand does she take?

I don't know what brand of pill she's own, I'll find out. She's mostly having mood swings right now. It doesn't seam like postpartum at all, her mom says its just like she's hitting puberty again, LOL.
Did the symptoms start when she went on the pill or were they pre-existing?
Had she used that brand / any BCPs before?
I know that mood swings, depression and headaches are all side effects with most BCPs, definitely when I researched Dianette a lot of girls said it worked well for hairs and acne but they hd to give up because of headaches / depression. I'm not sure if I feel better on Dianette than Microgynon, obviously having no chest hair is enough to cheep me up but then the skin trouble brings me down...generally I feel fine and no PMT which used to turn me into the wicked witch!
Louise,
The symptoms started when she started the pill, well wait they really started right after having the baby and than when she was unable to breast feeding she got on the pill at her 6 week check-up.
I don't believe she has been on the pill ever before but I don't know for sure. See this lady works the front office at my kids school and is our cleaning ladies daughter so I don't know her really well.
I'd recommend lemon balm and/or motherswort herb. I've read it's good for new moms, although I've never tried it myself. Also, if she could keep up with her prenatal vitamin (or at least a multi vitamin, the b complex vitamins are good for the nerves) that should help a lot. Here's a site you or her might like to read http://www.zimbio.com/Family+and+Parenting/articles/58/Must+have+herbs+for+Postpartum

Hope your friend feels better. If she has a good support system from family and friends, that can help greatly. Especially if it's her fist child. I wish I had the internet when I had my first.
Why did they give her BCPs in the first place? Was that supposed to fix the problem? Does she think she's feeling better / worse? Has she come out in acne or anything? How long has she been taking it? It may just take some time to adjust or if not she should really go back to the doctor, she might be better with a different brand or coming off altogether.
Louise,
She asked to be on the pill for birth control. She's feeling worst right now but doesn't know if it's the pill or just the fact she just had a baby. I don't know if she is having any acne, I haven't seen her in 2 months. She has been on the pill about 6-7 weeks.
OK, I'm thinking of having her try Vitex and EPO and see if these 2 help her at all. Does this sound good? And she would take the Vitex everyday except daring her period, right?
No, Vitex everyday. Someone on here [I forget who] said it wouldn't take effect unless you take it everyday and it doesn't start REALLY taking effect until the second or third month. Which makes a lot of sense; hence it has to get into your system.
I would advise her to just stick with the BCP for 3-6 months to let her system adapt, she may get better on her own but if not she may be better trying another brand preferably weaker or progesterone-only. The new one Ginger's taking sounds good because you have a wider window to take it in before your dose becomes late.
