Weight gain w/ Saw Palmetto or Red Clover

I've been taking Saw Palmetto and Red Clover for quite some time, mainly for premenopausal symptoms, but small amounts. I've gained weight over that time (just a couple of pounds) but didn't pay much attention. A couple of months ago I upped the dose (more than doubled) hoping for help with the suction NBE method I'm using, and my weight seems to be on the rise. I'm wondering if there's a connection with the herbs. Has anyone experienced weight gain with either of these? Thanks!

If you do a search on past postings on saw palmetto, you will find that some women reported weight gain/cellulite while taking it, while some women havent noticed a difference. I myself am wondering if I should start retaking SP. I've been on a three month break from herbs and hope to start again soon...I think maybe it depends on the individual, and the dosage. I remember someone recommending to take it at night before bedtime so that the appetite gain wont be noticed while you're asleep...

yes I completely agree with northernmom! I have taken SP for 4 MONTHS now and have not experienced weight gain or increased cellulite. I thought I was the only person not getting this from the SP but I'm glad to see northernmom is saying it works just fine for her too.

How close do all you people monitor your diet anyways? I can't help but feel all this is caused by everyone's own increase in food consumption or something of that nature and than right away assuming it must be the SP. And this has created the vicous chain?

Nonetheless, if you are not liking the SP you can substitute it for Nettle ROOT. You may also want to add in pumpkin seeds (oil), spearmint tea, etc

However, if you do not have the signs of excess androgens you shouldn't eve be taking the Saw palmetto dear. And red clover, is really not reccommended as it is a very potent estrogenic herb.

Thanks ladies ...

I'm almost 48 and have been thin and the same weight my entire life. I've never struggled to stay thin. That's why I'm suspicious the weight gain (though minor) is the herbs. It's the only thing that's really changed. My doctor thinks it's just perimenopause, but ...

I do have slightly thinning hair, and a faint mustache that I wax. That's why I thought the SP might help me. I didn't know that Red Clover was too be avoided. I thought it was a common herb for both menopause and NBE.

I think perhaps I'll drop them both and see what happens. I'd still be interested in more thoughts.
