Hi,

I'm back with my silly questions! I saw this in a health food shop and it looks too good to be true, high protein no fat. I haven't actually bought any because I need to get an opinion on whether it's acceptable for halal diet but just wondered if you thought it sounds like a good booby supplement or if I'm likely to end up looking like the terminator?!

Hope you don't mind, thanks for all your advice in the past x

Hi Louise good to see you back. Why do you think the protein supplement would build you muscles? From what I know it only does that if you work out a lot with very high straining exercises. You don't need to worry about increased GH release either cause that only happens if you ingest a very spcific amino acid combination (arginine alone or in combination with glutamine and ornithine), and the presence of any other AAs, fats and shuggars in the blood prevents this effect.

Hi Louise,
Moon is right, protein alone will not stimulate muscle building. You have to create a stress to the muscles (exercise, weight trianing, etc.) in order to stimulate muscle growth.

Protein is essential for a variety of physiological processes and one of those is the creation of certain hormones essential to NBE (and of course health too... lol).

The whey protein in that supplement is just fine. I do not like it however because it uses the artificial sweetener acesulfame-potassium.

I am very wary of any artificial sweetener. Some have been linked to very scary symptomology. (here is a link if you want to scare yourself into stopping all artificial sweeteners : http://www.sweetpoison.com/aspartame-sweeteners.html )

So, my take on it - protein good... sweetener bad... I would look for a better alternative - perhaps if you are looking for something sweetened that did not have sugar you could find one that uses stevia.

Hope this has been some help,

Thanks girls, just worried because it wasn't just protein but has certain aminos added and didn't want them to be specific ones that would beef me up! What I need is protein with minimal fat in some form that is palatable, at least this drink isn't thick like a shake - yuck!

As for artificial sweeteners my trainer warned me against aspartame because it's bad for bone density and both my grandmothers had osteoporosis but surely a few times per week for 6-12 months is niether here nor there in the grand sceme of the amount of rubbish we all eat? All of these drinks are pretty nasty and it's expensive too so I'm not going to be downing several every day.

Have ordered the Yohimburn to see if that works, need to phone up the gym that recommended it to ask about topical application to avoid systemic fat loss.
