troubles sleeping- buying melatonin- harmful to NBE? MOON?? Anyone else?January 24 2009 at 9:03 PM | nbe_please (Login nbe_please) |
| I do not feel like I am getting adequate sleep. It have difficulty falling/staying asleep- and often times feel quite tired upon waking, as if I didn't get a "good" nights sleep.
By mid afternoon I feel quite run down- like I could use a nap.
I am considering purchasing Melatonin from GNC- I don't want an actual sleeping pill that will leave that "hangover" feeling in the morning or something that will affect NBE.
I know your body needs to rest and sleep for multiple reasons- repair, growth, recouping, release of Growth Hormone- ect. I'm afraid the sleep I'm getting now* is not enough to accomplish these tasks.
Do you ladies feel Melatonin would cause problems with NBE? This is the same hormone your pituitary gland releases to help you sleep naturally, but the store bought form would not be the same*, of course. Do you think this "hormone" would affect the NBE process? |

Do you exercise? a lot of times, exercise can help you get better sleep. however, dont exercise too close to bedtime, it will wake you up for a few hours.
next- do you drink caffeine during the day? try not to consume it after noon, or maybe even try not to consume it at all. you may be tired for a few days, but being tired will help you get better rest, then you can sleep more/better and things should even out soon.
also- if you want to take something, try taking GABA before bed. it makes you a little sleepy AND its supposed to be good for NBE bc it increases the amount of growth hormone your pituitary makes.

Thank you very much for the speedy response. No I currently don't exercise, I know it sounds like a bad excuse, but I really don't have much time to do so.
It's so frustrating because I will already be somewhat tired, but just can't fall or stay asleep.
I will try the GABA :) |

Hi Nbe_Please,
I use melatonin and have for years. I used to use 6mg per night (a high dose) but I now use 3mg per night. It has not seemed to interfere with my NBE. I also use GABA and L-Tryptophan. I have been battling insomnia all my life. These things help me immensely.
Best wishes,

I don't think it would interfere with your NBE program and if your not happy with it, there are lots of natural products you can get at your health food store to aid with sleep. However you should keep your dose of melatonin low. Also, and this goes for everyone, You must sleep in a completely dark room for your body to release its own melatonin. If the the retna in your eye detects any light the brain will not signal to release the melatonin hormone. So pull the blinds if you have streetlights, no night ligts in the room,,, complete darkness. Failing the release of melatonin can cause all sorts of health problems from heart disease to cancers. Of course, I am talking years for it to take its tole. I read a article out of Alive maginzine all about melatonin. |

Thank you girls very much :) You have all been quite helpful.
I guess I knew that you needed darkness to release your own melatonin, just not COMPLETE darkness. My boyfriend also sleeps with the tv on, so I'll pick up a sleep mask.
Goodluck girls, keep on growin!! :) |
