I have used vitex for 3,5 months and only had my period once since I started in the middle of october. I use swansons vitex I take 400 mg x 2 a day. Could it be that I need more or that I need more time? Has anyone uesd swanson vitex with sucsess?

I haven't used it, but Swanson is a good brand and is a well known name. |

Hi Linn,
I am not sure that taking a higher dose of vitex will change your results. Perhaps sticking with it for longer would be of some help.
You must be ovulating for vitex to have its effect. It stimulates the production of progesterone from the corpus luteum - the casing left over when the egg leaves the ovary. No ovulation means no corpus luteum which means nothing to make the progesterone from.
Did you just get off birth control pills? If that is so, it is not unusual for women to have quite a while before they start ovulating. With you cycles as haywire as you are stating, this would be a good time for a hormone test to see what is going on.
If you are close to your menopausal years then you may have entered early menopause. The only way to know for sure is to get a test.
