A Big Thanks to Moon!

I had developed growth, but stretch marks along with it,and Moon recommended me to take some collagen supplements. The supplements were a little high at the health food store,so I went to CVC and got some gelatin caps,as it stated it was just like collagen when ingested into the body-----anyway it would help form collagen in the body. This was way cheaper, too.I have been taking it for 2 weeks as of tomorrow.I have also been massaging w/Palmers.I think it is combo of both,so I will continue to do both, but I have noticed the most improvement in the past couple of weeks. My stretch marks are disappearing. On the right breast, they are almost completely gone and on the left they have significantly reduced.I just realized that the left was worse.....weird,huh?
Thanks so much Moon for your helpful and knowelegable advice.Happy Growing!

Hey melC,

I have stretch marks from my pregnancies and I wold love to get rid of them. I am going to try your methods to see if they will help with the stretch marks on my tummy and thighs.

I am thinking of MSM. collagen, and gelatin.

How much gelatin do you take daily?

Thanks

That's great news, so happy for you! Are you taking vitamin C too? It stimulates collagen production in the body so it might speed up the effects. MSM does the same tho so either one is probably enoguh.

Oh,Thanks again,Moon! So,no need to add MSM? I will still buy it,as I think that will help my husband's gout.He also just sprained his knee and tore a couple of ligaments. He is a wrecker driver and fell off his flatbed roll-back during a call. So,MSM does the same thing? Which one do you think would be better for hubby for his joints?
Yes,I do take Vit C.I actually started taking it for my colds, allergies, sinuses and for immunity about 5 years back.I was so excited when I learned it was beneficial for NBE.I have heard people say that it helps you absorb herbs and other supplements better.I know it helps me feel better, too.I take 1000 mg daily.1 cap in morning,1 cap at night.I think this is key why I have good results even though I smoke.

Mel, definitely the MSM for hubby. It has many properties, but one of it's most potent uses is as an anti-inflammatory pain reducer.

No I wouldn't exactly pick vitamin C over MSM. Just saying that if you're spening on collagen or gelatin you shouldn't save on vitamin C, for best cost/effect value. VitC stimulates collagen production in the body and is an antioxidant. MSM does both these things and also has several other actions that are potentially beneficial for NBE. I'm gonna add MSM soon and I'll continue taking vitC too since I have lots left.

Hey,BooBoo! Thanks so much.I also forgot to mention that he fell on what I call his 'gout leg and knee'.That's the one that will flare up on him.He has tried so many meds, but the thing is,what they are supposed to 'help' actually aggravates it more once he does flare up.The darn doctor even told him this.I asked if there were supplements that would help. They said no,just try black cherry juice. He has tried this and black cherry juice extract without relief. So,just goes to show that doctors can be wrong. He is actually very open to the herb/supplement thing now because of my results and better health from them,in general. The meds for his gout make him ill-tempered and sick feeling.I have seen the poor man scream in pain when a sheet touches it and crawl in the floor to get around. It really is heart-wrenching,as he is so big and strong most of the time.He dropped a transmission on his foot and was in a cast.It did not set back right. It took 2 years of him in agony to get it properly diagnosed.Oh,also his gout medicine seems to interfere with his blood pressure medicine.I personally, would rather him take his BP meds. And they say gout is a rich man's disease....humph! BooBoo,how much MSM to start and ramp for him? He is 6' and weighs about 265.He is a big man. Thanks again!

I am hoping that the MSM will still help his joints even when his uric acid levels go up.Maybe it will help block the formations of the crystals.I know it will help.I feel it in my gut. Also,I know this has nothing to do with NBE,but I have found everyone is so helpful here and thanks to everyone that lets others go off-topic occasionally.

Moon----do you also take gelatin as well? I'm pretty sure I read a post where you do.Do you still take it? How many mg of MSM are you going to add?

I slacked quite a bit on gelatin lately, but yes. I didn't feel it was making any difference. I wonder if for some unknown reason gelatin is actually not as effective as CFS, I don't see as many positive reports for gelatin as for CFS. I'll try it again with MSM tho. I dunno yet how much MSM I'll take, I have yet to look into doses. I heard 3-6 grams was ok. Double Ace took 8 I think?

You're very welcome Mel. I've actually been taking MSM in lower doses for months for my joints and have recently switched over to powder to both cut out some pills and be able to up my dosage as my condition is fairly severe. MSM has been tested extensively for toxicity and is easily safe at doses as high as 20 g / kg of body weight. However, each affliction seems to have a certain threshold that needs to be surpassed before it becomes helpful. For gout, it looks like that level is 2 - 3 g. So, I would suggest starting him at 1 g per day for a week and see how he takes it. From there, move up by 500 mg every few days til you get him up to 3 g. He can definitely take more if he chooses to or if he doesn't feel it's effective enough. Be aware though that for something like that, it could take a couple months to achieve its full pain relieving abilities and it is a long term solution. I wish you the best.

Sandy - Yes I think 1000 mg is ok; for just the antioxidative effects of vitamin C you only need 150 mg a day but for collagen stimulating effects arround 1000 mg. I think ester C is just a form in which vitamin C is introduced so it's the same thing.
