Problems with Wonder Up - advice, please!

I tried WU last year, but erratically, and didn't really note when I started it and when I stopped. But at some point during that time, my periods stopped and I skipped three in total, before bleeding for a month solid. On the plus side, I had lovely full boobies. But by the time I'd got over the messed up periods and stopped taking any supplements, they'd shrunk back to normal (a 34A, loose 34B0.

I tried PM for two cycles but didn't feel it was doing a damn thing for me and so I bought WU again since I wasn't convinced it was at the root of the problems I had last summer. (I should add I went to the doctor with all this and he did blood tests and scans and came up with no reason for my lack of menstruation).

So I started on WU straight from coming off the PM, no break. Boobies swelled up lovely - a nice, perky and very full B cup which is really all I'm wanting out of this NBE malarky!! BUT - I have now skipped two periods again and I feel like crap. I actually stopped taking the WU about two weeks ago as I was having symptoms of hypoglycemia and I read that this can be caused by a hormone imbalance and excess estrogen (among other things, but it seemed most likely). Those particular symptoms abated almost immediately, but now I just feel like I have raging PMS. Nice big boobies are still there, but so is a hugely bloated stomach - I look like I've swallowed a bowling ball. I feel like I could literally pop! I've been taking vitex on and off but it seems to make me sleepy - I don't know why.

So... help! I don't know what to do! I want my period for starters and am sure I'll feel much better once I have it. But has anyone else had drowsiness on vitex? Should I stick it out in order to try and balance out my hormones? And once I do get myself sorted - what next for my boobs? On the one hand, WU clearly does have an effect on me - should I give it another go or abandon it for something else? And if so, what? :-(

If anyone has any suggestions or insights, I'd be very grateful.

Anybody? Please!!!

Maybe I should re-phrase this...

Has anyone else had problems with their periods on WU or anything else?
What did you do about it?
Did you find anything else that worked?
Does anyone know why I'm having this problem? I'm guessing low progesterone but I'm not sure I'm right.
If I can get my hormone levels sorted out , can anyone suggest what I should take to to get back on the NBE road but avoiding the same problem again?

I can't believe I'm the only person who's had this. :-(

Drummergirl, I find hard to believe no one has responded to you yet. Maybe those that saw it didn't know what you should do and it was missed by the veterans. I wish i had knowledge of WU however I have never tried it. I believe i read on here(somewhere awhile back) that someone else had similar problems with WU, but i can't remember what she wa told to try. Maybe go back a couple months and try to find it. I will try and if i find it, I will let you know.

But....I would be very leery of trying it again after having problems both times you used it. SOunds like it just doesn't click with your body. As far as vitex, i have not tried it either.

I would try to find someone on the programs thread who has had success, is similar to your body, age, etc and try things they have had success with.

You have probably read this before, NBE is trial and error....if something doesn't work, step back and punt.....research and try something else.

Good luck girl!

Hi DrummerGirl

I’m afraid I can’t relate to your problem, but as I am taking WU too, your post caught my eye.

I just did a search on the main forum for “missed period” (sort by match, not date or you’ll be there forever), and found a few threads which might be useful to you:

It is pretty strange that WU stops your periods – I hope someone a little better informed about hormone imbalances can shed some scientific light on the problem.

I can suggest that you email Vortex Health and ask for their advice though – in my experience their customer service is excellent; I got a response in less than 12 hours and they were very helpful.

I hope you manage to get to the bottom of this and find something that works for you, please let us know how you get on.

Hmmm maybe you could try taking individual herbs similar to those that are in wonderup but lower the amounts that way you will have more control over what your taking and how much. You may be able to eliminate whatever it was you reacted badly to that way. Other than that i dont really know, im not very knowledgable in that area!

Good luck

Hi - thanks to those that responded. Yeah, I was hoping maybe that some of those that seem to really have wrapped their heads around the intricacies of hormones might have been able to shed some light. But I really appreciate the links and suggestions. Guess I'll just have to go down the trial and error route.

Drummergirl,

I am definitely not a doctor, but I'll take a shot at it.

1. Do not stop anything you are doing yet, or suddenly.

2. List exactly what you are taking including dosages, frequency of dosages, and for how long (including Vitex):

3. Provide stats on your physical characteristics including any past conditions:

Age:
Height:
Weight:
Normal measurements:
Current measurements:
Have you ever had / breastfed any children?
Diet:
Exercise regimen:

Any medications that you have taken in the past 6 months:
Any conditions that you have had in the past year:
Any conditions that you have been living with for any long duration of time:
Do you have any acne that was not there before? If so, how bad is it? Face or back?
Do you have any hair growing under your jawline/cheeks near ears/under nose that was not there before?
What cycle day should you be on right now? How many days late are you right now?
When you say stomach, do you mean upper or lower stomach?
When you are drowsy, what time of day does this occur and with what intensity?

In what state/country do you live?

What did your doctor test / do? Be specific.
If he did a blood/urine/saliva test, can you get a copy of it?
What kind of doctor did you see? (General M.D., Gynocologist, endocrinologist, ?):

Did I miss anything?

Hi Drummergirl,

I had period issues (I've always had period issues) and I have been taking wonderup for a few months and have been having success.

What helped me was taking a Chinese herbal tonic called the "4 treasures drink." It is very common and after I came to Asia almost a year ago I realized that the majority of Chinese women/girls here take it for their health.

I also took the "8 treasures drink," which is basically the same as 4 treasures except for 4 more herbs. It is supposed to help with NBE too (I actually first started taking the 8-treasure soup for NBE, regulating periods was just an added bonus)

The drinks include things like Goji berries, red dates, dang quai (highly respected Chinese herb, second only to Gingseng)....etc. They help you improve blood circulation, which directly helps with menstruation. Periods are basically blood flows. You are trying to get unwanted blood out of your system.

The drink is very good for women in general. My skin has improved, my health has improved, I have more energy, etc. I took it for a good 6 to 7 months. You take it everyday for 1 week after your period ends. I also often take it before my period. My period used to be ALWAYS late, but I find that whenever I drink it it helps my period come. It's almost magical. There were a couple of times when my period was so late and I started drinking the tonic (one a day) and within a couple of days my period came. You are supposed to take it for like a few months to even a year to help make your body healthy. Now my period's always on time it's unreal. It's never been so on time in my life. My cycles used to always be 35-45 days, now it's 28-30 days. And I used to take advil religiously for menstural cramps now I almost never get cramps.
