At a magazine, everything you do is edited by a bunch of people, by committee, and a lot of them are, were, or think of themselves as writers. Part of that is because magazines worry about their voice.
For me, just being on the cover of a magazine wasn't enough. I began to think, what value is there in doing something in which you have no creative input?
No, you don't get it, thats why I'm telling you. You think you get it, which isn't the same as actually getting it. Get it?

I have been looking for four Philipino mermaid films, considered lost, for a long time. They are: Dyesebel(1953), Anak ni Dyesebel (1964), Miranda ang Lagalag na Sirena. and Lorelei (1973). I would appreciate any information toward the purchase of copies of these films; thank you. I am also interested in a copy of the television show, "Love to Love". episode "My Darling Mermaid" (2006).

GMA Does soooo many remakes of teleseryes! ABS-CBN Orig!
by
Hmmmm...ever since i started viewing pinoy tv..all the teleseryes they have are either fantaseryes or remakes of other telenovelas! For example RPN 9 started viewing Mari Mar and next thing you know GMA 7 has Marimar but with additional twists....hmmm..another is Dyesebel...with the same actors and actresses! GMA also copies names and ideas from ABS-CBN kapamilya...for example....GMA copied the korean version idea of My Girl from ABS-CBN and produced their own koreanovela Ako Si Kim Samsoon...and names hmmm...mermaids??? Marina from ABS-CBN to Marinara from GMA both dealing with mermaids???? total copycats??? on the other hand ABS-CBN produces soap operas with originality but also set morals and lessons and introduces interesting plots to the story...that is what GMA 7 needs to work on..No Wonder Alot of their stars moved from GMA to ABS-CBN
1. Anne Curtis
2. Toni Gonzaga
3. Mariell Rodriguez
4. Valerie Concepcion
5. Angel Locsin
6. Cristine Reyes
7. Ara Mina
8. Billy Crawford
9. Jake Cuenca
and other more im predicting

the reason why ABS started doing remakes was because they couldn't produce original quality fantaseryes. duh.
and copied kapamilya my ass. That's funny coz when GMA started the Kapuso thing bigla nalang nagkaron ng Kapamilya.
and what do you mean original soap operas? plots with characters getting amnesia or the rich vs. poor theme isn't what you would call ORIGINAL dude. interesting plots? where? they're all the same naman eh. They just tweak the storylines a bit but they're all the same.
Besides when GMA made a remake of Marimar and ABS couldn't produce a good enough show to at least compete with it biglang naisipan ng ABS na "magremake" ng korea novelas. hmmmm. copying anyone?
get ur facts straight dude.

actually, pariho kayong tama. pero ang mas kawawa ay tayong mga viewers... kaya naglilipatan yung mga artista kasi may offer... seguro mas malaki ang offer sa kabila at yung iba naman ay natapos na ang kontrata. bout what happened with Angel Locsin, actually it's not her fault but it's with her manager. guys, this two channel is just twisting your minds para pag awayin ang mga manonood. boring din naman kung walang chismaks, pera kaya yun sa kanila. tayo lang nga ang kawawa. pero kung pag dugtong dugtongin nyo ang dalawang estasyon naku parihu lang yun... Telenovela is the Spanish and Portuguese word for prime time serial or soap opera.
Spanish language prime time serials, or telenovelas, are produced in all Spanish speaking countries, and the United States. Portuguese language telenovelas made in Brazil are also dubbed into Spanish for the Latin American market. Telenovelas are usually aired during prime time. Some of the most famous telenovelas have come from Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, Chile, Spain, and Puerto Rico. In Spain they are also called culebrón ("long snake") because of the convoluted plots and large number of episodes, usually in the hundreds.
However, unlike American soap operas, which can endure for decades with an ever rotating cast of players and characters, most Latin American telenovelas have an average run of four months, and have few cast changes within the course of a serial.
Telenovelas are not only immensely popular in Latin America, Spain, and in Hispanic communities in the United States, but also have a wide following in Russia, Eastern Europe, France, Malaysia, Singapore, China, the Philippines, and Japan as well.
In Argentina, they are usually produced by Telefe and Pol-ka, in Brazil they are usually produced by Rede Globo, SBT or Bandeirantes, in Chile they are produced by TVN and Canal 13, in Venezuela they are usually produced by Venevision or Radio Caracas Television, in Mexico by Televisa and TV Azteca, in Puerto Rico, they were produced by WAPA-TV or Telemundo Puerto Rico. In the United States, Telemundo and Univision, mostly importers of Latin American soap operas, have started producing telenovelas with Latin American casts and, in the case of Telemundo, Mexican producers (Producciones Argos).

Latin American auds are lapping up repeats and remakes of hit novelas
Rehashing old programs seems to be the newest trend in Latin American TV.
Mexico's Televisa and TV Azteca have spring lineups filled with refried versions of local and international telenovelas.
In Brazil, second-tier nets remake Mexican soaps and old local ones for lack of access to top writers and resources.
In contrast, Argentina is on a creative high, driven by the need for stronger international sales.
So what is fueling this look back? Is it a cheaper option, or have scribes simply run out of ideas?
Spurred by the ratings success of "Cuna de Lobos," a 1986 novela that Mexico's market leader Televisa trotted out again early last year, both Televisa and second-ranked TV Azteca have begun leaning heavily on remakes.
This risk-averse strategy has proved lucrative in ratings and international sales. Televisa saw an 8% spike in foreign licensing sales from 414.6 million pesos ($36.9 million) to $39.8 million between the third quarters of 2003 and 2004.
"You take something that was tested and proved and after 20 or 25 years you bring it up to date because there's a whole generation that hasn't seen the story," says writer Liliana Abud, who is penning "La madrasta" for Televisa. "That's why they do remakes."
Successful novelas of more recent vintage are rebroadcast one or two seasons after their run has ended in Mexico, yielding high ratings. Televisa got a second helpingfor its money by airing "Amor real" in 2003 and again in 2004.
TV Azteca looked outside Mexico for Latino soap ideas.
Its popular "Las Juanas" is a remake of the 1997 Colombian novela by the same name. Azteca's best-performing novela, "Los Sanchez," is a Mexican version of Argentine hit comic novela "Los Roldan."
Last fall, Televisa's remake of 1970 novela "Rubi" was the season's highest-rated telenovela, in third place overall behind a pair of variety/comedy shows.
However, there are caveats.
"It's not that it's easier. It could be that a telenovela has had a lot of popularity the first time, but a second adaptation doesn't guarantee success," says Fides Velasco, producer of "Las Juanas" at TV Azteca. "The public demands more, since they already know what's going to happen, and so it requires a different level of acting and production."
In Brazil, leading net TV Globo gradually strengthened its hold on writers. When it became evident it was impossible to compete with Globo's telenovela production machine in the second half of the 1990s, the smaller nets SBT, TV Record and Bandeirantes sought alternatives.
SBT aired dubbed Televisa telenovelas, Record focused on talk and variety shows, and Bandeirantes focused on sports and news. But it was clear that viewers wanted telenovelas and the smaller webs were forced to follow the trend.
In 2000, No. 2 net SBT inked an eight-year telenovela co-production pactpact to remake Televisa content. The first fruits of this, "A picara sonhadora," aired in 2001. The companies are on their eighth co-production, "Esmeralda."
SBT's retreads usually rank second in the ratings, well behind Globo, but ahead of TV Record.
And originality is not the definition of success. Last year No. 3 net TV Record's original novela "Metamorphosis," produced by local indie Casablanca, was an audience failure.
But its remake of Globo's 1970s hit "The Slave Isaura" is doing well. Record claims it is not a remake but a new telenovela based on Bernardo Guimaraes' 19th century novel.
New or not, auds like it. "The Slave Isaura" ranks second in the 7 p.m.-8 p.m. slot.
Record will follow "Isaura" with "Senhora" in March -- another remake of a 1970s Globo telenovela. Again, Record claims it is not a remake but a new telenovela based on the same 19th century classic by Jose de Alencar that the Globo skeinskein was derived from. Herval Rossano, who directed both novelas in the 1970s, directed both Record novelas.
No. 4 net TV Bandeirantes will co-produce "Floribella" with RGB Entertainment, to air in March. The first Bandeirantes telenovela since 1999, "Floribella" is a remake of Artear Argentina's hit "Floricienta."
"We learned about the astonishing success of 'Floricienta' and decided to remake it in Brazil," says the web's spokeswoman. "We are working with RGB that has the know-how on telenovela production. From the cost point of view, it would not be wise to build a production center here."
"Floribella" costs around $35,000 an episode -- comparable with Globo's original novelas that cost around $37,000 to $44,000.
But even Globo is not above using a retread now and then. It aired a remake of its 1979 telenovela "Cabocla" last year.
It does this partly because the net's writers can't come up with something better, or because there is some part of the plot that becomes current again.
Argentina's TV industry was forced to slash imports and get creative due to a plunge in ad coincoin and 65% slump in the local currency that drained broadcasters' programming budgets four years ago.
They turned to local production companies for everything from dramas to gamers and novelas.
These shingles -- Cuatro Cabezas, Ideas del Sur Prods., Pol-ka Prods. and others -- had to export their projects to make up the costs that could not be recouped by home sales alone.
International sales in 2004 doubled from the 18,500 hours of content sold in 2002, according to market estimates
New telenovelas are expected to continue to do well. Central Park Prods.' classic love-triangle soap "Jesus, el heredero" (Jesus, the Heir) while lower rated last year (30% audience share vs. 70% for "Roldans") has racked up good sales abroad.
Leading Argentine net Telefe, however, is doing some retreads in hope of repeating the success of last year's "La ninera," a local version of U.S. sitcomsitcom "The Nanny." It also is prepping local adaptations of "Married ... With Children" and "Who's the Boss?"
Telenovela shoots in exotic locations of Europe and Latin America
by sweet honesty
Brazil
Globo shoots in exotic locations of Europe and Latin America
The Clone had shootings in Morocco; Family ties in Japan; Celebrity in France and An angel has fallen in the Czech Republic. They have started shooting Bellissima in Greece and Chile. They also include actors from different countries in the casting. They license series and miniseries, children’s programs, musicals and special products like the coverage of the Carnival in Rio.
During the last 30 years, Globo has commercialized over 300 productions in more than 130 countries, with a marked presence in Latin American, European, Asian and African markets.
Helena Bernardi is Globo’s Marketing and International Sales Director, and she says that the products they sell the most are, for sure, telenovelas.
What do you think is the reason for this?
“Our telenovelas combine fiction characteristics with society topics through universal subjects and emotional conflicts. They are produced with a high quality and cutting-edge technology and many of them have shootings abroad so they are more universal and appealing to the international audience.
What has been your experience in the sales of formats?
“Voce Decide has been sold as a format in 53 countries. Some of them bought the show exactly as it was aired in Brazil. Others, such as Angola, broadcasted it with a local showman but they kept the interactivity of the original program,” explains the executive.
However, in other countries, the format was adapted completely with local actors and showmen. Among the countries that bought the format, it is worth mentioning China, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Israel, Germany and Mexico.
What other products do you commercialize?
“We license series and miniseries, children’s programs, musical shows and special products, like the coverage of the Carnival in Rio. As it represents an important cultural manifestation of our country, it is appealing to the international world market. They have been bought by France, Russia, Argentina, Indonesia and many countries in Latin America.”
Helena Bernardi adds that their main objective is to strengthen the presence of their productions in Eastern Europe –a market that has grown rapidly– and Asia, which represents a potential territory for their products. The quality of technology: an ally to success
Which where the most sold telenovelas at Globo?
“I could mention The clone, for which we sold the broadcasting rights to more than 62 countries; Family ties –sold to 66 countries– and Terra nostra –sold to 84. Historically, we could also list The slave Isaura, which was broadcasted in 79 countries and Little Missy, broadcasted in 62.”
What is Globo’s challenge at the moment?
“To satisfy the needs of a sophisticated audience that has developed an expert eye to appreciate a good story when they see it.”
In view of the fact that local productions have increased in many countries –especially in the telenovela genre– Bernardi thinks it is a great opportunity for Globo: “We can develop international productions or co-productions with our partners, both in Hispanic and European markets. We have a very competitive standard since we supply the market with telenovelas that deal with universal subjects and are produced with the highest quality and cutting-edge technology,” she assures.

Let me tell you, the best telenovelas come from Colombia and Brazil. Those two countries know how to produce telenovelas, and good quality ones. Mexican telenovelas are just like Filipino telenovelas, probably because of the shared culture between the two countries, and they get too ma-arte sometimes and over dramatic, but wow, those telenovelas from Colombia and Brazil, I’ve had the best TV-watching moments of my life with telenovelas from those two countries.
It’s obvious the pull that the two networks TELEMUNDO and UNIVISION have in Latin America in that they work in collaboration with other TV networks to produce telenovelas, or borrow their partner network's actors to fill up their shows. TELEMUNDO worked with Brazilian TV network Globo to produce El Clon, and with Colombian TV network RCI to produce Pasion de Gavilanes, and Univision regularly works with Venezuelan company Venevision to produce telenovelas and various comedy and talk shows.
There are TV networks that only pertain to certain countries: TV Azteca is the smaller Mexican network that brought you Paloma (Cuando Seas Mia), RCI is a Colombian network, Venevision is Venezuelan. And it’s high profile for a celebrity to be on one of the smaller networks, but for an actor to sign a contract with either Telemundo or Televisa means that THEY’VE MADE IT, and they’re on their way to worldwide superstardom.
Telemundo is based in Miami, Florida and Televisa is based in Mexico City. Many Latin American actors, for them to get good work, have to move to either the US or Mexico to grow as actors.
Paola Rey and Danna Garcia were HUGE stars in their native Colombia, but it wasn’t until they moved to the United States and landed their contracts with Telemundo that they became WORLDWIDE CELEBRITIES. And with the success of Pasion de Gavilanes (Pasion de Amor), Paola Rey landed the hugely prestigious endorsement deals for Neutrogena and Revlon, while Danna Garcia landed an endorsement deal for Garnier. This is a big deal, because very few Latin celebrities get those deals, in fact, not more than a handful of Latin celebs have received endorsement deals in the United States . And these two girls can’t walk down the street in any country of the Americas, the US, or Spain without being mobbed by huge crowds.
Without a doubt, Telemundo’s hottest property right now is Gabriela Spanic. As far as a male leading actor, it's Saul Lisazo. Also hot properties are: PAOLA REY, MICHEL BROWN, DANNA GARCIA, MARIO CIMARRO, AND JUAN ALFONSO BAPTISTA. Even just a telenovela starring ONE of these actors is a surefire hit, so imagine the teaming up of two of them in various telenovelas.
It’s also important to understand that not all actors in Latin America are Mexican, nor are all telenovelas from Mexico. PASION DE GAVILANES (Amor) is from COLOMBIA.
GABRIELA SPANIC is CROATION/VENEZUELAN.
BARBARA MORI is JAPANESE/URUGUAYAN.
MICHEL BROWN is ARGENTINEAN.
JUAN ALFONSO BAPTISTA is VENEZUELAN.
MARIO CIMARRO (Pasion de Amor, Gata Salvaje) is CUBAN. Isn't it neat to see how actors look like in real life? We're so used to seeing him in vaquero outfits and with cowboy hats, and here he is dressed all cool and casual, the real Mario Cimarro.
PAOLA REY and DANNA GARCIA are COLOMBIAN.
SEBASTIAN RULLI and SAUL LISAZO are ARGENTINEAN.
After Pasion de Gavilanes, Telemundo teamed up MICHEL BROWN and DANNA GARCIA in TE VOY A ENSEÑAR A QUERER (I’m Going to Teach You How to Love). Then they teamed up PAOLA REY and JUAN ALFONSO BAPTISTA in the worldwide hit LA MUJER EN EL ESPEJO (THE WOMAN IN THE MIRROR). Then MARIO CIMARRO was the protagonista (Spanish for actor with top billing) in the phenomenal EL CUERPO DEL DESEO (Body of Desire). CORAZON PARTIDO, with protagonista DANNA GARCIA just ended, and taking it’s place in the 9pm timeslot, surely another hit, and another team up from the Pasion cast, PAOLA REY and MICHEL BROWN in Amores de Mercado.
Televisa’s hottest property right now: SEBASTIAN RULLI (from Rubi) and GALILEA MONTIJO.
GLOBO is a the network that dominates Brazil, and considering the population of Brazil and the fact that the rest of Latin America loves and eats up Brazilian telenovelas, it’s easy to say that the top 3 networks in the Americas are: TELEMUNDO, UNIVISION, and GLOBO.
I’m really happy that I live here in the US. I own a home-business, so while I’m working and when I'm not going out to dinner with friends and living my life of course, I’m at home doing my internet-based business while watching TV, which is a luxury in itself to be able to do so, to be able to schedule your own breaks, so I can only be grateful to God for that, but what adds to the luxury is the choices you have and the variety of shows you can watch.
If you feel like watching American TV, there’s Desperate Housewives, Smallville, Simple Life, MTV, all there. But I usually watch Spanish shows all day, as in ALL DAY. But if you feel like watching Filipino shows, there’s GMA Pinoy TV or TFC for me. If you feel like watching Asianovelas, there’s the Asian channel featuring the hottest shows from all over Asia, and with English subtitles. For Spanish shows, I don’t need English subtitles because I’m fluent in Spanish, but for Filipinos who don’t speak Spanish, Telemundo offers that option. Univision/Televisa doesn’t. And there’s Pasion de Gavilanes (Amor) in it’s full 1-hour original-ness. If you want to know what’s happening to your celebs from Latin America, it’s all there in the Spanish networks’ daily gossip shows.
So if you want to go the U.S., not only will you have a better life, but your nightly television entertainment also receives a boost. Pretty funny, right.
When I visited the Philippines, I was dying because I could not watch my telenovelas. The thing about telenovelas here is that they’re shown every day all day along in one channel or another, which is fantastic for Filipinos because just like the South Americans that in reality, we sort of are, we eat that stuff up like candy just like they do. They show new ones at night and in the afternoon, and in the mornings they show classic telenovelas from years past.
I’ll share with you my TV watching schedule just for fun. In the morning, Telefutura begins showing telenovelas from 6am to 11:30. They show successful telenovelas from years past, so if you’re nostalgic, here’s your chance to revisit telenovelas from years past. Before they showed Rosalinda with Thalia, and a whole bunch of other good ones, too many to name. Right now 6am is El Precio de tu Amor starring Rubi star Eduardo Santamarina, 7am is my FAVORITE Mi Destino Eres Tu starring the beautiful Lucero and Jorge Salinas. 8 is Entre El Amor y El Odio, 9 is the FANTASTIC Colombian telenovela LUCIANA, which is my current favorite. 10am is a Venezuelan telenovela Destinos, during which I change the station to Telemundo, because they’re showing POR QUE DIABLOS? starring my favorite actress Paola Rey and Manolo Cardonas. Telemundo is great, because they show their morning telenovela for an hour and a half! The 10am slot before showed previous Brazilian hits El Clon, Siete Mujeres, and this FUNNY FUNNY telenovela that I forgot the name of. And now they put a telenovela from their Colombian partner RCI, which stars two of their hottest contract stars Paola Rey and Manolo Cardonas.
At 11 while I’m working, I then watch the Spanish morning shows, which feature celebrities from the networks as guests. From 11am - 1pm, the Spanish networks then show their morning gossip shows kind of like Kris Aquino’s show which reports on the celebrities and what’s up in their lives, etc. you know all that chismis, which is also entertaining in itself to see who’s Barbara Mori dating, or who’s Sebastian Rulli’s new girlfriend.
Then at 1pm, Univision starts up the telenovela rounds again and starts with the daily Mujer…Historias de La Vida Real, which is a daily show that features stories based on true stories. 2pm is another telenovela that we don’t watch, 3pm is Rebelde, and 4pm they have another gossip show, then from 5-7 they have the news, so we're not watching Univision during those times because it’s boring, and we usually go out to dinner anyway, so we're usually not home.
I watch Rebelde, then I change it to Telefutura because at 4pm is MARIA LA DEL BARRIO, which I LOVE!!!!! No wonder Filipinos were glued to this show while it was on and love Thalia with a passion. 5pm they have Amor de Palos from Venezuela, then 6pm they always have the current children’s telenovela, which I never watch.
Then boom, the networks start their ratings war. 7pm starts the daily night time ratings competition between the two networks. TV Azteca has had moderate success with Paloma (Cuando Seas Mia), the other one, and the new one (see, they’re not really that good which is why not too many people watch it, and I don’t even remember their names, the only good one was Paloma and Amor en Custodia, and a few other ones), but the biggest and most expensive shows are on Telemundo and Univision, and 7pm starts the war to who can rake in the most viewers with their shows. Kind of like Philippine television, right?
Right now, it’s like this. On Telemundo, 7pm is La Tormenta which is like a western suspenseful love story, which I might add won an award, and also features a lesbian couple and a gay couple, 8pm is Tierra de Pasiones, the novela that takes place in the wine grape fields, starring GABY SPANIC and SAUL, 9pm is the new hit Amores de Mercado starring your favorite Pasion stars MICHEL BROWN and PAOLA REY. Then 10 pm is Decisiones, the fantastic daily novela “donde usted es el verdadero protagonista” “where you are the main star”, and they did that because when it first started, for every story they filmed two separate endings, the character would come to a turning point, and the audience is given two options, like a) should she do this? Or b) should she do that?, and the audience would text their choice, and then the votes are tallied, and the ending that the audience chose is the ending for the telenovela. Genius, no?
On Univision, which owns Televisa and therefore shows telenovelas directly from Televisa, at 7 is Peregrina about a circus, 9 is Barrera de Amor, and the 10 slot is the Spanish talk show, Cristina, where they feature celeb interviews usually or interesting stuff. For Univision, whenever a telenovela ends, the day it ends, the cast usually goes on Cristina and they talk about the telenovela and stuff. When Rubi ended, Barbara Mori and Sebastian Rulli went on Cristina, same as Alborada, then Fernando Colunga and Lucero went on Cristina, then Sebastian came again after Contra Viento y El Marea ended, then Barbara Mori came again when her movie La Mujer de Mi Hermano was released in the United States. Cristina is based in Miami, where Univision and Telemundo is based. Miami, Florida for Latin America is like the center of everything, it’s Latin America’s Hollywood, just because all of the biggest stars live there, and if you’re an actor and want to get into telenovelas, well Miami, Florida is where you wanna go just because two of the biggest Spanish TV networks are based there, and hold their auditions there, their awards shows there, their talent competitions whenever they have those talent/dance/singing shows where ordinary people can become stars.
You know what? I like Spanish TV because in it’s base form, not only is it the same culture as a Filipino culture, it’s like the same thing as Filipino TV: telenovelas, chismis talk shows, dance and singing competition shows, it’s like Filipino TV but in Spanish and on a grander scale. And that works for me, and keeps me entertained everyday. I would much rather be watching Filipino TV with all my cousins and family in Pilipinas, but obviously I'm in the US, so I can't, so the closet thing to home is Spanish television, and that keeps me happy. It also makes me happy when my family and I watch the same show, because it's imported over there as well.
Stay tuned for next month’s Telenovela Update where we‘ll talk about the hottest Brazilian telenovelas. The reason why we like Brazilian telenovelas is that they’re more realistic and yet more dream like at the same time, I know that doesn’t sound like it makes sense, but if you ever watched a telenovela from Brazil, you’ll understand why it does and why they’re so popular.
In telenovelas, from Latin America and Asia, there is usually a character that we all root for, and then there is that evil character that ruins things for him/her. The difference in Brazilian telenovelas is that it really reflects everyday life in that there isn’t always a heroine/villain aspect, in fact, in Brazilian telenovelas, many times there are no villains at all. They have a different format for the way they make their telenovelas than the way Spanish-speakers and Asians do it. There are no villains in Brazilian telenovelas, there are just conflicting desires among the characters, which is exactly what makes it more human.

TVN Channel 7 operates national networks, has an international signal and a relevant web. In 1978 it created the drama area and made more than 30 telenovelas and, since 1993 it has produced at least two telenovelas every year reaching such quality in its products that they sell to Mexico, Ecuador, Paraguay and the United States.
Canal 7-TVN is a national channel and has become the only Chilean channel that has steadily sustained utilities for the last ten years and besides, it has been the top one in the prime time with its own telenovelas. Chile is a country in the south of Latin America made up of 13 regions with a population of 15 million people of wich, 5 million 410 thousand of them live in the capital city, Santiago de Chile.
From Chile to the world
“Last decade remarkable results have encouraged us to develop another simultaneous project to the production of a 6-month telenovela and we are producing a third telenovela. This is about the creation of an area of young telenovelas production”, David Belmar explains to TVMAS from their own studios in Chile during our recent visit to those extraordinary facilities. Their stories are also being bought to be adapted such as Amores de Mercado, acquired by Telemundo from the USA which is now under production in Miami.
The channel managers gave an important step at last MIPCOM where they had a booth to show their products.
“We are proud of offering high quality products because it took us many years and big investments to specialize ourselves in telenovelas. We have trained our people in different Latin American industries. We have created script writers workshops with relevant people from world literature, film and theatre industries and we have worked with professionals and technicians graduated from important universities. In other words, we have professionalized this job of making telenovelas and television products in general”, said Ernesto Lombardi, commercial director and Daniel Belmar, executive producer. Among their most successful love stories we can mention Amores de Mercado, Romané, Pampa Ilusión, Circo de las Montini and Purasangre.
Facing this Canal 7 huge growth, its competitor, Canal 13, once the leader, installed its own drama area and bet with a successful telenovela as Machos last year. Its topic is men and the mysteries around them. Its script writers, Coca Gómez, Sebastián Arauz and Pablo Yánez, have captured an audience that did not usually watch telenovelas. “We tried to reach young public to start showing another position”, explains Verónica Saquel, executive producer, in Canal 13 production studios where she was exclusively interviewed by TVMAS. “In an adult language we have serious conversations and we speak about different topics related to familiar planning, homosexuality and the Church role today. All this, from a male point of view. To get to know the mystery of being man is to speak about these young people topics: men virginity, ways of relating themselves in a funny way and how they live with women today”, says the Chilean successful telenovela producer and the person who gave the idea.
Machos is a phenomenon with an average of 44 points of rating during a whole chapter, even with 50 point peaks, which shows a growing tendency since the beginning of this telenovela was not so good. “To penetrate international markets we had to include neutral Spanish and excellent outdoors scenes supported by breakthrough technology and high quality art and photography work”.
Sony Television International acquired the telenovela for its international distribution during the First Telenovela World Summit held in Miami last year, where the product was introduced by Canal 13 executives in its first stage of production.

The telenovelas from Brazil usually feature Brazilian themes, cultures, characters, historical and contemporary events and glossy on-location scenery. For example, Escarva Isaura is about a slave on a Brazilian coffee plantation around 1875. Gabriela, Cravo e Canela stars Sónia Braga and is based upon Jorge Amado's novel about life in the cacao-growing region of Bahia. Malu Mulher is about a divorced woman trying to come to terms with her life in São Paulo. Beto Rockfeller is about a ruthless climber in Rio de Janeiro, and features a parade of characters from different social classes. Pantanal is set among the natural beauty of the southeastern swamplands. Thus, the telenovelas are an important source from which the Brazilian receive information about their history, land and people.Brazilian telenovelas are often very racy, with ample female nudity, which makes it difficult to transplant to certain countries. For example, Angel Malo could not be shown in Chile as is. Instead, a sanitized version was produced by Univesidad Católica TV to suit Chilean sensibilities. The hot Brazilian telenovelas Renacer had to be scheduled in Chile for late night showings, where it held the highest audience share. The TV Globo telenovelas have the biggest budgets, and the production values show through. TV Globo has a Department of Analysis and Research to conduct detailed audience research analysis and routinely modifies telenovela scripts along the way according to audience reaction. When actress Daniella Perez was killed by the jealous wife of her on-screen boyfriend in De Corpo e Alma, the screenwriter Gloria Perez (who happens to be Daniella's mother in real life) continued the story of the character with previously shot film and in flashbacks.
In the diamond mining town of Tijuco in Brazil, the commendador--appointed by the king of Portugal--is the ultimate authority. Having grown up in the relative security of his house, the young and beautiful Xica da Silva finds her world threatened when he decides to sell her to a whorehouse in town, refusing to recognize that a black slave girl could be his daughter. In a desperate bid to save herself, Xica steals the diamonds collected by the commendador for the king, intending to use them to escape. The king's army arrives to collect the diamonds the very next day, however, and when the loot turns up missing, the commendador is led away in chains, his family dispossessed and thrown out in the street with only the clothes on their backs. Martin, the commendador's son, swears vengeance. Xica and the other slaves, however, are sold at auction, and Xica ends up in the home of the Sergeant Major, an old man who bought her solely to slake his lust. To the town of Tijuco, however, comes the new commendador, the elegant and ruthless Joao Fernandes. Immediately struck by Xica's beauty, he manipulates the Sergeant Major into selling her to him. And thus begins a love story, filled with danger, intrigue and passion, between a willful nobleman and a crafty slave girl who rises to one day become queen.
One of Brazil's greatest soap operas; no THE greatest soap opera (or novelas as they are better known). This is a story of a 900-year-old vampire and his love for a woman and his 13-year-old son; set in Brazilian cities like Sao Paulo, San Antonio, and the fictional Maramores. Although this novela was catering to a pre-teen/teen target audience it still delivers a profound message and amazing (and likable characters). The story's main character is Zeca, a normal 13 year old boy who is obsessed with vampires. He's siblings and parents can't understand him but love him just the same. It is later revealed that Zeca is in fact the son of a powerful vampire named Boris who switched him with his parent's real baby at birth. Boris believes that Zeca's "mother" is the reincarnation of his beloved princess Cecilia who chose to kill herself then to be the wife of a vampire. As the story a progress, Zeca begins to develop his powers and tragic turns of events force Livia to live with her mother Zoroastra (named after the Persian prophet Zoroaster to preached of the war between good and evil). That is when vampires start to slowly invade Maramores. Zeca must deal with his vampiric self and still live a normal life (and win the affection of his beloved Bea). The secondary characters are equally fascinating: Galileo (the vampire hunter), Mina (Bori's wife of over 100 years), Cica (the beautiful nurse of Maramores),Agusto (Livia's unrequited love of the past) Martha (the blind-but-evil sister in law of Augusto), Isaura (Martha's suffering maid, her's is a sad tale), Ezequiel (the angel sent by God to fight the vampires), and even famous vampires like Dracula and Nosferatu show up, the list goes on and on.
The special effects are nothing short of incredible. Vampires hurl lightening, angels wield flaming swords, men turn into wolves, and this list too goes on and on.
The music deserves mention as well. Who can forget the haunting theme of the vampires, the exotic music of Maramores, or the active Latin/German song of the angel Ezeqiel (ex nihilo et angelus...must be heard to be believed). Songs like "Fairy Tale" by Shaman is a perfect fit for this novella.
This novella delivers many messages about love, God, and the war between good and evil. One scene has Livia tell Boris that evil and destruction cannot win because God will not allow it. Boris replies that maybe God is tired of humanity and wants to destroy it. Despite that, most of the soap opera is of a highly humorous nature. Scenes like when Galileo's white son was turned black and went Rastafarian; or when Marta led a group of farmers into revolution. I watched the Spanish dubbed version (El Beso del Vampiro) and I loved it (even though the Portuguese audiences said it was poorly done and heavily edited).
All in all this novela deserves recognition and hopefully a time slot on English networks.
"Hoje é Dia De Maria" (something like "Today is Mary's Day") is an outstanding fantasy, a fairy-tale about life and feelings, seen from the eyes of a little girl, Maria(Carolina Oliveira, as a child, and Leticia Sabatella, adult - who played Natasha Henstridge's maid in the movie "Bella Donna"). However, besides such an unreal atmosphere, it's not made for children.
The cast of this magnificent mini-series also includes Fernanda Montenegro (Academy Award nominee best actress in 1998 for "Central Station"), a "primadonna" of Brazilian theater, cinema and TV, among other great actors, like brilliant Osmar Prado (Maria's father) and Stênio Garcia (Asmodeu), in one of their best appearances ever. By the way, Asmodeu, the devil, is played by seven different actors. What a finding!
Rodrigo Santoro (from "Charlie's Angels, "Love Actually") plays a sad "birdman", a young man who lives imprisoned in a body of a bird, in a place where the night never comes out, and everybody lives under a permanent sunset. In Maria's childhood, Rodrigo is the tinplate bird who protects the little girl Maria (Carolina, magnificent in her debut as an actress),when she decides, in her sweet innocence, wander round and round through the streets.
Rodrigo's character will fall in love with the adult and beautiful Maria (Leticia), since the day she finds him wounded and saves the bird of dying with an arrow in his chest.
The story reminds us the movie "Ladyhawke" (with Michelle Pfeiffer and Rutger Hauer) a bit, but you probably have never watched anything so beautiful as this story. The music is wonderful and the sceneries are all built with paintings! Creative, outstanding!!! The plot mixes some elements of the traditional fairy-tales and others of the richest Brazilian popular culture of the countryside. That's a finding and works it out very well. All the characters talk like the country-people of the Northeast, what demonstrates the careful work of the director and cast with this production and makes of "Hoje é Dia De Maria" something special.
Director Luiz Fernando Carvalho has done once more a brilliant work in "Hoje É Dia De Maria". This mini-series would be compared to his debut as a movie director ("Lavoura Arcaica"). The sensibility of his directing can be seen in both productions, what is a warranty of quality for the audience.
Definitely, this mini-series is a must-see, a small masterpiece which deserves to be found out, as well as little Maria's discoveries in her imaginary journey.
In October of 2005, Globo Television released the second part of this magnificent mini-TV series called : "Hoje É Dia de Maria - Segunda Jornada". That's another must-see.
What do you get when you mix the story of two young lovers and the making of a human clone? You get an interesting story by way of a Brazilian telenovela (soap opera) called O CLONE (The Clone).
Known for incorporating social issues into her stories, Glória Perez includes the following topics in her latest telenovela: Drug addiction, Middle Eastern culture (Muslim lifestyle), and science fiction (human cloning). Given the current news headlines of cloning and the Middle East, the telenovela becomes even more important and gives cause for discussion after viewing each episode.
O CLONE takes the viewer to two striking locations - modern-day Brazil and Morocco. The two main characters are introduced - Jade, a headstrong Muslim girl from Morocco and Lucas, a docile, daydreamer from Brazil with a Catholic religious background. The two meet and fall in love. The problem is that their different cultures make it difficult for a union between them. Jade's family has chosen a family for her, and Lucas's family is reluctant for him to marry a foreigner. In addition to their story, a scientist creates a human clone after a loved one prematurely dies. This clone later becomes an important part of the lives of Jade and Lucas.
The viewer gets a chance to see a Muslim household and what goes on there. Some of the scenes may be a bit exaggerated since the storytellers use poetic license to make the story more dramatic. However, the scenes can be used to open up a dialogue of discussion about a culture that may not be known or understood by many in the west. Despite the differences between the cultures - Christian and Muslim, it becomes clear that there are many similarities such as one's love of family and the desire to find happiness.
Veteran novela director, Jayme Monjardim and his team have produced an outstanding product with O CLONE. His handiwork shows beautiful close-ups of the actors and enchanting shots of the land and cityscape of Morocco and Brazil. He skillfully captures both places.
The lead actress, Giovanna Antonelli (Jade), gives a believable presentation as the Muslim girl, torn between following her true heart's desire and the dictates of her family to marry the man chosen for her. Lead actor, Murilo Benício (Lucas) also gives a winning performance as the young man who has fallen in love with a girl from a different society who his family will not accept. Benício plays three different roles - twins and the clone. Each character is different and convincing.
The rest of the cast also gives strong performances. This includes Stênio Garcia as Uncle Ali, Elaine Giardini as Nazira, Daniela Escobar as Maysa, Vera Fischer as Yvette, Reginaldo Farias as Leônidas, Letícia Sabatella as Latiffa, Dalton Vigh as Said, Antonio Calloni as Mohamed, Adriana Lessa as Deusa, and Jandira Martini as Zoraide. Actually the cast list goes on I'm sure you get the idea. All the actors are good.
O CLONE captured the attention of over 18 million viewers in Brazil. The telenovela successfully took hold of the American T.V. audience, as well. Brazilian telenovelas shown in the U.S. are usually dubbed into Spanish. For the first time in the history of telenovelas shown in the U.S., English sub-titles (closed caption) have been included. Now, non-Spanish speakers have a chance to enjoy the story as well.
In addition to an arresting and sometimes controversial storyline, the telenovela has a fun music soundtrack full of Brazilian and Middle Eastern music. Thanks to musical director, Marcus Viana, the music adds to the success of the novela as a whole.
O CLONE is one of those telenovelas that doesn't waste your time. I highly recommend this Brazilian soap opera for your viewing pleasure.
"Terra Nostra" is a Brazilian telenovela or soap opera that is set in the late 1800s. It takes place at a time when slaves were freed in Brazil and there was a need for workers, especially on the coffee fazendas (plantations) of Brazil. As a result new laborers were sought and a large number of Italians, looking for a better life, immigrated to Brazil to work there.
This historical telenovela tells the story of these Italian immigrants. It focuses on the relationship of Giuliana Esplendore and Matteo Batistela (Actors Ana Paula Arosío and Thiago Larceda) who meet each other during the voyage to Brazil.
Giuliana and Matteo immediately fall in love and plan a life together. Unfortunately, fate and some people do not plan it that way. A series of mishaps befall the couple and keep them apart. When they finally reunite, their conduct affects not only their lives, but also other people they have met along the way.
Moral issues arise which produce fruitful debate for the television viewers. There are no simple answers because none of the characters or issues are strictly right or wrong, black or white. The issues and personalities are gray and will cause the viewers to change their minds during the storyline.
Unlike many telenovela stories, the characters are not larger than life in "Terra Nostra." Instead, they are like everyday people who make everyday decisions. Consequently, the viewers can relate to what is happening in the story.
"Terra Nostra" is written by Benedito Ruy Barbosa and directed by Jayme Monjardim. Both men are responsible for writing and directing other first-rate stories. The telenovela is full of beautiful shots of nature and scenery. The pacing of each episode properly moves so that the viewers can savor the panorama, the story and the acting.
Musical director, Marcus Viana, puts together a heavenly music soundtrack for the telenovela. It is mainly filled with traditional Italian songs that are performed by well-known and talented musicians such as Charlotte Church, Caetano Veloso, Zizi Possi, and Jerry Adriani. The soundtrack also includes original instrumental music by Viana, also a gifted musician experienced with soundtracks for other shows. Three CDs, titled "Terra Nostra" "Terra Nostra 2" and "Speranza" have been successful produced.
"Terra Nostra" has been successfully shown worldwide, from countries such as Tahiti, Russia, Greece, Canada, the United States of America, Hungary to Italy, Spain, Croatia, Portugal and many more.
The combination of a great story, enchanting music, wonderful directing makes "Terra Nostra" a memorable telenovela to watch.
(Forca de um desejo/Forces of Desire)tagged as one of the most beautiful Soap Opera in the world...Beautiful Scenery, BitterSweet Melody, Fantastic Costumes, Great Acting...

Greetings - I am curious if anyone can tell me about the following telenovelas.
The New Wave (La Nueva Onda)
Campeon (Champion)
I am working for a production company that has the distribution rights for these telenovelas but we do not have any information in the files as to the plots of these shows so I am trying to fill that in. Sadly, I am having a lot of trouble. I would appreciate anything you can tell me about these shows. According to my Boss's information these telenovelas were produced 10+ years ago, they were originally in Portuguese (possibly from Globo) then dubbed into Spanish for Telemundo but they never aired them. Thank you for taking the time to read this and thanks a head of time for your help.

I'm an avid fan of kapamilya network and most of us here in Bohol is switching only to Abs-Cbn. They are very creative and good talent handler (proof: Angel Locsin is transferring to Channel 2 because she wants some space and sort of talents to discover aside from acting). What I hate very very much about GMA-7 is because they are airing again the shows which Abs-Cbn had earned credit out from the show that they[GMA] replay (METEOR GARDEN...)They always make gaya to the kapamilya network. At isa pa, they always make ratings showing their victory(unbelievable truth).Alam nyo ba na ang nangongopya ay BASURA???????!!!!!!.Kaya hindi nalang ako magugulat kung isang araw PINOY BIG BROTHER naman ang gagayahin NYO!!!!!!!!!!!

Darating Ang Umaga is a tale about love, fate, family and betrayal which revolves around two sisters, Mira (Eula Valdez) and Arriana (Vina Morales) and a mysterious medallion which is responsible for their fate in life. Arriana fins the medallion in a lake bed and also finds love with a newcomer, Abel (Ian Veneracion) When their father (Spanky Manikan) is hospitalised because of a quarry accident, Milagros has no choice but to allow Don Lucio to enslave her daugters in exchange for her husband's life. While in the mansion, the sisters plan to escape, and in betrayal, Mira leaves Arriana behind. Here begins a series of twists and turns in the lives of the sisters 20 years on as their family is separated by deceit, lies and unfortunate circumstances. Could it be the curse of the medallion? LYRICS:
Saan Darating Ang Umaga
BRIDGE
Darating ba syan'g kasama ka? Masasalubong man lang ba kita? Subalit ako'y mag aalala, kung ako ay, mahal mo ba
CHORUS
Kahit ba anong hadlang, mananatili kan'g mahal sa aking buhay/tulad. May umaga man pala, kung di kanya dala, ito'y walang buhay...
just like other Spanish colony we develop our own FilipinoSpanish w/c is very unique in any Spanish speaking countries we have our own usage & expressions:
Hoy! in Spanish it means Now! but in the Philippines it means: Hey!
Siempre Spanish means Always/Forever in the Philippines it means: of cousre
Querida means Beloved in Spanish but in the Philippines it has a different meaning: Mistress
samething happen to Harry Potter (Americanising words, spellings, and grammar characteristic of British English, Philosopher's Stone conveyed an incorrect idea of the subject matter, and that a title change was necessary. Rowling and Levine had agreed to change words only when they felt that British usages would be unnecessarily confusing to American readers (e.g., replacing the phrase "Quidditch pitch" with "Quidditch field" in multiple instances).
in the Philippines they change the Telenovelas Title into simplified Spanish:
the Venezuelanian Telenovela La Mujer De Judas was change into Vino De Amor in Mexico & Altragracia in the Philippines.
Pasion De Gavilanes was change into Pasion De Amor
La Revancha change into Solita, Mi Amor
Peregrina into Doble Cara
Muñeca Brava into Monica Brava (they chage the original name of the Heroine from Milagros or chilito to Monica)
Amores Descarado into Dos Amores
also they converted some in English the Telenovela El Diario De Daniela was change into Danielas Diary (afraid that filipino might misunderstood it:Danielas Newspaper)
also in the Philippines they disregard the Querida in the Telenovela Maria Emilia, Querida for it coz some confusion if Maria Emilia was the other woman or mistress instead of being Beloved.

[Story]:
With the phenomenal success of primetime television's top-rating teleserye PANGAKO SA'YO, ABS-CBN and STAR CINEMA, the country's leaders in the entertainment industry, once again turned a dream project into reality. Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay.
A mother's search for her long lost son. A young man's quest for the truth. A life which was truly never hers. Directed by the certified hitmaker OLIVIA LAMASAN of the box-office hit Got To Believe, Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay re-defines the drama genre.Together with distinguished TV director LAURENTI DYOGI, Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay is proud of its superbly written script, artistic execution and meticulously mounted scenes --- making it the grandest, most ambitious teleserye to date. It boasts of the most number of award- winning actors ever assembled in a single production. From the sprawling province of Quezon, Zambales, Rizal, Laguna to the streets of Metro Manila, Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay is a heart-wrenching tale of a woman's struggle against the fate which seems to turn against her.The long wait is over.
Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay” marks the long-awaited teleserye debut of multi–awarded actress Lorna Tolentino who says about the project: “This is the soap of all soaps. As an artist, I can say that all the stories I have come to expect from TV and the movies are all in this teleserye. Every role I have portrayed has been leading to this. So as you can expect, I’m very happy to be here.” LT plays a dual role in “Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay,” as Lorrea and her twin Lorrinda. All Lorrea wanted was to be loved by the man who was bound to break her heart, the man who would fall in love with her twin Lorrinda. And to make matters worst, Lorrea will lose her son Andrei. She will search for him and this will lead her to the biggest mistake in her life. Lorrinda is the opposite of Lorrea: strong-willed and liberated, and driven by ambition, she gets caught up in a life of crime and would later become a powerful figure in the underground syndicate as “The Red Butterfly.” In “Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay,” Edu plays Henri Agos, a man full of deceit, a loving father to his three children by a coldblooded leader in an underground syndicate, like his love the Red Butterfly.

[Lyrics]:
Sana'y Maghintay Ang Walang Hanggan
Zsa Zsa Padilla -version
(Official Theme of Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay)
Doon ka, dito ako
(You're there, I'm here)
Hindi magkatagpo
(Unable to find each other)
Tawag ko'y di marinig
(You can't hear my call)
Ba't kay layo mo
(Why are you so far?)
Lapitan man ay di mo matanaw
(Even if I come close, you still can't see me)
Bingi't bulag, sa akin ay walang pakiramdam
(You are blind and deaf to my feelings)
Sayang na pagmamahal
(Love is wasted)
Paano na'ng pag-ibig kong walang hanggan
(What about my love that has no end?)
CHORUS:
Sana'y maghintay ang walang hanggan
(I hope forever waits)
Hanggang makilala mong ako ang iyong mahal
(Until you think of me as your love)
Baka ko matutuhan kita'y kalimutan
(I might learn to forget you)
Baka pangako ko'y dumating sa kailanman
(Maybe my promise will reach eternity)
Sana'y maghintay ang walang hanggan
(I hope forever waits)
Sana'y ang iyong paglingap ay muli kong matikman
(Until I can taste your sweet words again)
Subalit kung paglimot ay di mapigilan
(But if my forgetfulness can't be stopped)
Alalahanin mong kay tagal kitang hinintay
(Remember that I waited for you for a long time)
Narito ang puso kong inilaan sa iyo
(Here is my heart laid out for you)
Pagod na, nanginginig, baka magtampo
(Tired, shaking, might throw a fit)
Naghihintay ang labi kong uhaw
(My thirsty lips are waiting)
Handog nito'y ligayang di mapapantayan
(It has happiness that can't be matched)

I just noticed all teleseryes you wanted do not have DVDs out yet. That is because, I think, they are still showing in your place. Probably they will release the DVD after the series are finished there. Too bad, you seemed to really like them. Be patient...

Most English speaking Cameroonians can not afford to miss an episode of Pangako Sa Yo's, "The Promise".
Its 7.00p.m., most tele-viewers are on the Cameroon Radio and Television (CRTV) channel to watch "The Promise". It is a Philippine film screened over CRTV. The film follows the trials and triumphs of Yna, Amor and Claudia - three women whose fates are intertwined with those of the aristocratic Buenavista clan. Their secrets and passions set the stage for the unfolding of a family drama that may lead to their happiness, or destroy them all.
"The Promise" is screened from Monday to Thursday, 7.00 p.m. to 7.25p.m. The atmosphere in most homes is usually calm as all eyes are glued to the television screen.
"The Promise" revolves around the story of a lovely house maid, Yna, who falls in love with her employer, Angelo. Their love story is destined to repeat. Years before, Yna's mother, Amor was also a housemaid in the Buenavista household, wherein Angelo's father, Eduardo was Dona Benita's favoured son. When their love affair was discovered, Dona Benita drove Amor away from the Hacienda. Rejected and oppressed, Amor left the province of Puntaverda but vowed to take avenge. Unknown to Eduardo, Amor was already carrying his child, Yna. Eduardo then married the powerful and influential, Claudia. One day, Amor meets Eduardo, she does not know if her daughter is still alive. A new cycle of love and passion begins in the film, with mysteries and secrets about to unfold.
The population's interest in watching the movie mounts daily. Atem Nelly Atem, a three year-old-child in Yaounde told her aunty that "if you do not have Ena, Angelo, Amoro, etc, in your television, I will not come to your home for holidays".

ABS-CBN to export Filipino Teleserye
AFTER importing the Meteor Garden series, perhaps the most popular Tsinovela shown in Philippine television, it is now the turn of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. to export its locally produced telenovelas abroad.
The company said Tuesday it would be offering its programs to new markets in Asia, Europe, Africa and Latin America this year following its success in Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei in 2002.
Reena de Guzman Garingan, director for ABS-CBN’s international sales and distribution, said the network is slowly being recognized as a program supplier of Philippine series in the said Asian countries after two of the network’s drama series, The Promise (Pangako sa Iyo) and From the Heart (Mula Sa Puso) generated a huge following among Malaysians and Indonesians.
Positioned as foreign programs catering to non-Filipino audience, the ABS-CBN exports its locally produced soap operas through licensing among program buyers and Free and Pay TV Networks.
Garingan said that Malaysia’s RTM and ASTRO Ria Channel as well as TVRI and ANTV in Indonesia have aired The Promise dubbed and subtitled in Bahasa Melayu and Bahasa Indonesia. It is set to air The Long Wait (Kaytagal kang Hinintay) in March in another Malaysian TV station.
Meanwhile, Kenya’s Free TV network is expected to air its first Asian series, The Promise, in March among the Kenyans, which would be dubbed in English. ABS-CBN is currently negotiating to dub one of its series in French for the French-speaking Africans.
“The success of the initial run of our local series in these countries and the ongoing airing of these programs are indications that the world market is receiving Filipino programs well,” Garingan said.
She added that the entry of Mexican telenovelas and Chinese series in local television has opened the door for the network to export its series in the global market.
“Filipino local series have comparable production values and content as those of foreign telenovelas. The fact that our programs are enjoying the patronage of international audience means the quality of our series is very good in terms of picture quality as well as its story line,” she said.
With the good feedback for the local series among Asian countries, ABS-CBN is now also eyeing India, China and other Mandarin-speaking countries, as well as Eastern Europe and Latin America. Garingan said her team is particularly enthusiastic in targeting India.
“It is the first time that the second most populous country in the world, India, is considering an Asian program supplier - ABS-CBN,” Garingan said.
The first foreign program formats India adopted were quiz shows such as The Weakest Link, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and Betty La Fea, which produced in Hindi and is not far that ABS-CBN shall conclude a deal with an Indian partner.

***KAYTAGAL KANG HININTAY is the best teleserye in the philippines in the year 2003 and it was one of the top 5 Emmy international award, and also a top asian series...
***MARINA is the latest Number one teleserye in the philippines with the total rating of 48 percent in Mega Manila, followed by SANAY WALA NANG WAKAS with the total rating of 43 percent, BASTA'T KASAMA KITA 43 percent, IT MIGHT BE YOU 39 percent.....
***heres the latest teleseryes that you will love to watch soon on your malaysian TV... MARINA,this is great story about mermaid, the lead actress here is claudine baretto who is also the lead in Mula sa puso, her role here is a lady that become a mermaid when it is fullmoon.. this is currently the top rated teleserye in the philippines..... SANAY WALA NANG WAKAS, another top rating teleserye, lead actor and actress here are Kristine hermosa and jericho rosales who also the lead in pangako sa'yo, it will be aired in malaysia this comming october according to my source... sorry for bad english... have a nice day..
***As far as episode summary. ABS ( the makers of the soap's you mentioned) use to provide episode summary information fortheir soaps like From the heart (which was shown from 1997 to 1999 in the philippines )..... Since the year 2000 or 20001 they have stopped doing providing such info for their soaps.
In case you are interested to know. In the Philippines , from Monday to Fridays 8pm to 10pm ( primetime ) the 2 top TV channels ABS and GMA
both show filipino Soap opera. Thats 4 straight filipino soap operas. Each soap is 30 minutes only . HOWEVER of the 30 minutes about 15 minutes of that is commercials. So in reality we only get to see 15 minutes of a particular soap everday , 5 times a week . TOO MUCH COMMERCIALS !!!. Did you know that from start to end Mula sa Puso (from the heart ) took 2 years to finish airing here in the philippines. Same thing with Pangako sa Iyo (the promice ) So you guys in Malaysia get to watch 3 episode a day or 15 episodes a week. While we in the the Philippines only get to watch 1 episode a day or 5 episode a week coz of too much commercial.
Also unlike soaps from other asian countries where they finish taping the entire soap before showing it. In the Philippines , soaps are taped while they are showing. For example the episodes of a particular soap that were taped 1 to 2 weeks ago will be shown this week. As to how long a soap will last depends on the ratings. If it rates well, the network will try to extend the soap as much as it can This is why soaps like PSY took 2 years to finish and consistently above 40 % in ratings.
For the past 7 or 8 years,ALL the top 4 ratings shows has been local soaps made by ABS. Ratings goes up as high as 50 %. The only time this was broken was last year when Meteor garden 1 , 2 , Meteor rain was shown here. F4 shows were not even on prime time ( they were shown 5:30 to 6pm ) but they had the top 4 spots in the ratings for 8 months
***In the Philippines its ABS-CBN
In the Philippines , cable or what you guys call pay/sattelite channel subscribers are veyr few. Only about 5 to 10 % of the people in country have cable tv . So 90 % dont get to watch shows like C.S.I or Amazing race . How about in Malaysia are there many people who have pay/sattelite TV ??
DID YOU KNOW that Ethnicity wise of the 84 miillion population in the philippines , 91.5 % are Christian MALAY, 4 % Muslim MALAY , 1.5% Chinese .
***Well, the Philippines was colonized by Spain for over 300 years. It was the Spanish people that brought Christianiity to the Philippines. Before the Spanish came the Philippines was a MUSLIM country. IF not for Spain the the 84 million population of the Philippines would be composed of 95.5% Muslim Malay.
Yes there are no VCD/DVD avaiilable for filipino soaps just like Latin soaps but lately with the highly successful SWNW( timeless) their are viewers who have taped and transfer them to DVD and selling it on the net and making a good profit too. It's in its original language (filipino) no subtitiles . Of coarse this is illegal. But piracy is high in our country anyways about 50 % piracy.OOPS my mistakae I almost forgot about Studio 23 , a free channel owned by ABS so the public does get to see A.Race and CSI !
The most successful soaps of all time in Philippines is Rosalinda and Marimar by Thalia. in the early 1990's. The ratings was Phenomenal about 70 to 80 % ratings . That means that of all the household in the entire philippines that has TV , 70 % or so was watching it
***As far as the 70% ratings of Thalia's soap .That was its peak ratings. Hard to believe but true. It was pandemonium when Thalia came to visit the Philippines to withness Thalia mania . She had 2 concerts here where she sang majority in Spanish language which majority of the Filipinos dont understand . Before Marimar , the Philippines there were no foreign soaps in Philppines exept one on early morning of sunday (taiwan soap) but never rated well Ratings were only 1 to 2% at most. , After Marimar , every TV station started importing mexican/latin soaps . So for the last 8 to 10years , other than prime time soaps (which are all local soaps) all other soaps shown here are mexican/latin soaps.
Then Amazing twins (taiwan series) was shown in 2002 to 2003 ,it was a bit of a success , nothing spectacular in ratings only about 5 to6 %. Then in May 2003 METEOR GARDEN and F4 mania took over. In just its 7th episode it was already # 1 show in the country with 41 % ratings shown at 5:30pm(non primetime ) . If moved to primetime , expert say it would be rating close to 60 % if not even higher , but it was not moved to primetime because ABS want to devote primetime to Local soaps. . Even at 5 :30pm schedule , ABS was charging advertisers with prime time rate for commercial. Thus ABS earned 1 Million in ads from MG each day.Same thing with MG2, Metroer Rain, Meteor Fever . So ABS earned a WHOLE LOT OF MONEY from F4 . For about 5 months, the top 3 spots in ratings in the entire Philippines was by F4 , and 5 of the top 10 shows were theirs , and to think NONE of their shows were on primetime . . In fact MG ratings would even be higher IF only there were no VCD of MG & other f4 shows available.. The Philippines has 2 million plus chinese and majority are rich. Many chinese just bought the VCD since they understand mandarin , instead of watching it on TV (which is dubbed in tagalog ) because ABS put too much commercials
( these figures are ONLY the 5 to 6 month average ratings. At it's peak the rating was even higher ! )
1. Meteor Garden 42.6 % (mon - fri 5 :30pm ) 42.6 is about 6.5 to million viewers avg for 5 to 6 months ! )
2 Meteor Fever 39.4 ABS
3 Meteor Rain 38.4 % ABS
5 Meteor Garden 2 37 %
8 Meteor Garden 1 replay 36 %
4th ,6,7 & 9th place in ratings were all ABS Local soaps( PRIMETIME 7;30 to 9:30pm) avg 33 %
Likewise by placing F4 shows before its news program ABS was able to increase its news program nightly ratings by about about 10 to 15%
Because of MG phenomenal success , ABS and bitter rival GMA started getting asian soaps (taiwan, korean ) . So now I think only 2 mexican soaps left , the rest Asian already coz of F4 success.
***There has never been any Filipino soap that had a Sequel. Once a successful soap has finiished, what happens is the stars of the successful soap is given new soap. For example because of the succcess of PSY, the 2 main stars were given a new soap SWNW ( Sanay' wala nang wakas. The 2 main stars of Kay Tagal because of its successs, were immediately given a new soap IMBY (It might be you --still showing in Philippines )
***One thing with Filipino soap is that at times the soap ends with some questions left unanswered. Whether intentional or not I dont know. Sanay's Wala Nang Wakas (SWNW) for example ended with a few questions left unanswered but the way the story ends ( it had 2 endings ) leaves one more than satisfied .
***Well I cant comment on this coz I did not watch this. BUT this is a gma Soap . GMA primetime soaps ratings only 16 to 22 % average compared to ABS soaps ratings 34 to 43 % average . That has been the case for the past 8 to 9 years or longer. Its not that Filipino viewers are overly loyal to ABS primetime soaps but because ABS soaps are really nicer ( story, production value....) GMA has had soaps before that rated in the low 30 % on the first 1 or maybe 2 weeks of showing but drops sharply in ratings after that coz they have a history of starting series well but quickly gets boring, "overly stretched plots......
HOWEVER GMA is currently havings its first taste of a successful primetime soaps with its FANTASY seiries MULAWIN. ITS A FIRST for GMA to have a primetime soap to average over 30 % for a whole month and counting . Its the first time that ABS has faced such a challenge from GMA. Last ratings I know of ABS (MARINA) ratings is 36% vs GMA (MULAWIN) 35 % .
Because of Mulawin's scuccess. GMA preparing to make another fantasy series DARNA (local superhero ). ABS has its own version KRSTALA . I think they will go head to

Sana itinuloy mo ang kwento. You're ending shows bias again. Marina's latest before was 31% against Mulawin 36%.
And to continue your ABSCBN stories, currently they all faal down to mud. Their primetime's highest is only 28% (Kampanerang Kuba), all flopped.
In the history of Phil Television, GMA is the only TV Station that has all top rated shows from morning til late night beating ABSCBN as a weak network today. ABSCBN's audience share plunges sharply to a minority, leading GMA so far ahead.
Darna's pilot only phenomenally got 47%, the highest telefantasya ever na umabot pa ng 52%
Full House, beat the Meteor garden record! With a phenomenal rate of 51%
Mulawin's ending got 46% while Marina's ending got 35%
Why Marina reached 47%? Well wala pa naman katapat si Marina e. But whenb GMA launched Mulawin, Marina was put into oblivion! That's the naked TRUTH!
Sana ituloy mo pa ang story, make it sure yung TOTOO at ung PAGKABAGSAK ng ABSCBN naman! Dahil GMA ang may record na may ALL TOP RATED SHOWS from am-pm. GOT IT?

because of the turnaround of events, (in favor of ABS...) GMA is bitter once again because of this all so low ratings! (haha! now you know the meaning of the word 'karma' or 'kharma'!!!)
for all of you who doesn't know what happened, just read on.....

Here's the full copy of GMA's complaint on ABS-CBN and AGB-NMR:
Letter from GMA
GMA Network complains of inaccurate cable ratings
GMA Network, Inc. is calling for the immediate resolution on what it
described as "inaccuracy" in the result of the popularity ratings in
cable television homes in Mega Manila that pitted the network
against rival ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp.
According to the third-quarter ratings results from AGB Nielsen
Media Research Phils., GMA Network, with a rating of 20.1%, had a
6.8% advantage over ABS-CBN's 13.3% among non-cable TV homes in Mega
Manila.
But among cable TV homes in Mega Manila, GMA Network with a rating
of 10.9% lost by 4.3% to ABS-CBN with 15.2%.
"I found that the discrepancy this big happens only in the
Philippines. There is no other country where they experience this
very big disparity between cable and non-cable," GMA Network
President and Chief Executive Felipe L. Gozon said yesterday.
He added that the ratings for ABS-CBN have been particularly higher
in cable television firms controlled by its rival such as SkyCable
and Home Cable.
"It does not happen in Destiny and in other Beyond Cable [the
holding company] cables. It could be a coincidence that this only
happens here and second coincidence is that those cables are
controlled by our competitor," Mr. Gozon said.
And even before the ratings were released, Mr. Gozon said some ABS-
CBN account executives already knew the results. "Right after the
typhoon, before the ratings were released, an account executive of
ABS-CBN already knew what the ratings were," he said. In addition,
he said the company found from its investigation that there has been
an inaccurate deployment of people meter sets which are attached to
the television sets.
In the past few days, you might have come across a letter signed by a GMA Marketing and Productions executive addressed to clients – advertisers and agencies like yourselves. This letter challenges the integrity and professionalism of AGB-Nielsen Media Research, the industry’s ratings provider, and ABS-CBN, the country’s leading broadcasting group.
In the face of a rambunctious competitor over the last few years, we have opted to keep our silence, choosing instead to focus on improving our content and enhancing our service to our clients. We believe that you, our valued clients, have been witness to the fruits of our efforts in improving our hold over our audience and bringing delight to you through our efforts to give client-oriented servicing.
However, given this letter that directly questions our company’s integrity we believe that it is time for us to respond.
On The Issue of Cable vs. Non-Cable Ratings
Our competitor has raised the issue of the difference between cable and non-cable ratings saying they find it difficult to believe that there would be such a big difference in the viewing of programs in households from these two groups.
Their lack of understanding comes from their stubborn assumption that there are no differences in the situation of viewers whether they come from cable or non-cable homes.
There are many demographic and other variables that make the situation of viewers from cable different from those of non-cable homes. We would also like to add, that similarly, there are differences in the situation of viewers from Metro Manila and the Suburbs.
One of the significant differences that define cable or non-cable and Metro Manila or Suburbs viewers has to do with the low-band frequency of ABS-CBN. The signal of ABS-CBN goes through Channel 2, this is the lowest among low- band channels. All Channels from 2 to 6, because of their low-band frequency are vulnerable to noise such as those generated by use of electricity and telecommunications activity. Noise generated does not generally interfere as much with the reception in areas in Metro Manila which are closer to our transmission tower, but they interfere with reception (making it snowy or distorted) in areas further away such as the suburbs. With the increased use of electricity and telecommunication equipment in the past few years, the noise generated has become significant. Thus you will note that ABS-CBN performs significantly better in Metro Manila than in the Suburbs.
Even in Metro Manila given its size, the reception of Channel 2 is not completely immune to noise, especially houses located in the fringes (north and south). However, among cable homes, the connection through cable, takes away the vulnerability of ABS-CBN’s reception from noise, especially in instances when ABS-CBN is assigned to a channel 8 (in Destiny, ABS-CBN is still assigned to a low-band channel 6). Thus, among cable homes, the playing field is level – ABS-CBN’s reception is equal to that of any high-band channel. With a level playing field – the only variable now becomes quality of content.
In Metro Manila where the handicap of a low-band channel is not as great as the suburbs, you can see our performing significantly better than in the suburbs. Among Cable homes where the playing field is level – you see the proof of our superior content.
We have always known that given our single mindedness in improving our content, our performance will shine on a level playing field. We see this also in Iloilo City. For many years in the past, we have lost to competition in Iloilo because the signal reaching Iloilo came from Bacolod, making it weak and putting us at a disadvantage in terms of reception quality. However, once we put up our transmitter in Iloilo in the 4th quarter of 2004, we quickly dominated the area.
What ABS-CBN is Doing About Issue of Reception
The issue on ABS-CBN reception is limited to areas that are serviced by our Metro Manila transmission tower. These are basically fringes of Metro Manila and the suburbs. However, outside these areas where we have relay stations and local transmission towers, we perform very well.
We have both short term and long term plans to address the issue of reception in the fringes of Metro Manila and the Suburbs. We have done communication campaigns for correct antennas. You will have noted our plugs for “Baron” antennas. These types of antennas address the noise issue and give us level playing field. We have done antenna drives (even given free antennas) in some areas. However, the long term solution to our reception issue will come from our introduction of Digital TV. We will be introducing Digital TV starting next year. Under this platform, the issue of reception will become moot.
On ABS-CBN Having Prior Knowledge of Ratings
Our competitor alludes to a text message sent out by one of our Sales Executives to a few friends that seemed to indicate that we have prior knowledge of ratings.
The ABS-CBN executive did NOT have prior knowledge of the overnight ratings for October 4. The executive sent an informal (not an ABS-CBN release) text to a few agency friends on Thursday (Oct. 5). Inadvertently thinking that both Tuesday and Wednesday ratings were out, she referred to the data on hand as ratings for Tuesday and Wednesday. For the record, the only data available on Thursday was data from October 3 (Tuesday). The Wednesday and Thursday numbers came out on Friday (Oct. 6).
There was no advance information. No mole unfairly leaking ratings results to us. The Sales Executive has already apologized profusely for her mistake, which inadvertently seems to have led to such an irrational response.
Issues with AGB-Nielsen Media Research
Our competitor raises the question of over sampling of homes defined by certain demographic variables including cable homes. The AGB-Nielsen Media Research panel over samples the AB and C homes in order to allow advertisers targeting the upper and middle class ability to plan their media campaigns adequately. Because of over sampling for the upper and middle class, there is in effect over sampling of cable homes since the incidence of cable subscription is higher among these classes.
Over sampling based on some key demographic variables, as long as there is proper downweighting upon data processing to correct it, is an acceptable statistical practice. The core sampling design that went into the establishment of this panel was approved by the industry’s Television Research Council (TVRC).
We too have our issues with AGB-Nielsen Media Research. But when we have issues, we discuss these with them and show them solid analysis to support our claims. Almost a year ago, we approached AGB with proof, based on a credible third party research, that their Cebu panel was no longer showing results that represent the truth. They made their own independent check and survey. Upon establishing that not so ideal actions from another party resulted to their panels no longer representing reality, they closed down their provincial panels. They have since put up a new panel in Cebu, and among those of you who have seen the results from their new panel in Cebu, you will see proof that ABS-CBN has never lost its dominance in Cebu.
We have other issues with AGB-Nielsen Media Research and we continue to discuss these with them. We do not believe though that a hysterical response will better resolve issues than analytical discussions.
We know that not all our issues with AGB-Nielsen Media Research might be resolved, and we have in fact been the first to sign up with another third party for national TV ratings. If we had a mole in AGB, we would not have initiated the entry of another TV ratings provider.
ABS-CBN Focused on Improving Content and Better Service
Over the last few years, we have listened to our audience more, tried to understand them better, and improved our content.
In Metro Manila, where our reception handicap is not substantial, you will see the great strides we have made given the response of our audience. We lead in the rest of the Philippines.
We have also gone back to solid/fundamental programming – providing our audience with programs that make them feel, look inside themselves, think about their values and celebrate their humanity. You will see this in the breadth of our offering which is aligned with our mission to Serve the Filipinos and not pander to their escapist tendencies.
Look at what we have achieved. We are competitive among the highly sought after female 20+ who affirm themselves and their values with such powerful offerings like Bituing Walang Ningning, Sa Piling Mo, Maging Sino Ka Man and MMK. Filipinos from all walks of life find embracive acceptance in Wowowee. We are helping raise better children by bringing value laden programs like Wansapanatym, Noypi, Super Inggo and Pedro Penduko. Young and old examine themselves through lives reflected in Pinoy Big Brother and Pinoy Dream Academy and find thrill in seeing people test their limits in game shows like Pilipinas Game Ka Na Ba and Kapamilya Deal or No Deal. Empowered males (who are more likely employed) respond favorably to empowering Current Affairs shows like XXX and SOCO and content driven news programs like TV Patrol World and Bandila.
And we have achieved all these because our will to serve is guided by our principles of Honesty, Integrity and Professionalism, and supported by our value of Partnership.
Our valued clients, we continue to affirm our commitment to service – to the Filipino People and to you. We in ABS-CBN take our values seriously. We can do no less for we are the network – In the Service of the Filipino Worldwide.
Maraming Salamat po.
Very truly yours,
JOSE AGUSTIN C. BENITEZ, JR.
Head, ABS-CBN Channel 2 Sales

Letter from AGB Nielsen Media Research
November 3, 2006
To our valued partners in the industry:
In a letter dated 16 October 2006 sent to advertisers and media agencies, GMA Marketing & Productions President & COO Mr. Manuel P. Quiogue expressed GMA’s “critical concerns” about our television ratings data.
The focus of GMA’s “critical concerns” was the big difference in the viewing of certain GMA programs between cable and non-cable viewers and between Sky Cable/Home Cable subscribers and other cable companies’ subscribers.
Time and again, we have explained to GMA what we think are the possible causes of the aforesaid difference in viewership. As early as 2003, we gave our response to the Television Research Council which managed the study for the industry and gave its own response to GMA.
We even consulted GMA in 2005, along with other partners in the industry, when we set up a new audience measurement panel for Mega Manila following the merger with Nielsen Media Research. Significantly, even after 100% of all cable panels were replaced, the data differences for cable viewing remained approximately the same.
Understandably, there will be occasions when not everyone will be pleased with our TV audience measurement results; some will be very disappointed. But on other occasions our broadcaster clients can be very happy with the ratings data. Interestingly, those same broadcasters never question the results when their programs perform well.
We stand by the integrity of our data. AGB Nielsen Media Research abides by the Global Guidelines in TV Audience Measurement (GGTAM) endorsed by expert practitioners in television audience measurement worldwide. Our reputation as the world leader in TAM has been built on a commitment to independence, reliability and transparency. We will not change our data to assuage the concerns or suit the needs of any client.
Mr. Quiogue’s letter stated there was “cause for alarm” and referred to a text message allegedly sent by an ABS-CBN sales executive reporting, even before we released our Oct. 4 data, that ABS-CBN’s programs beat those of GMA’s. In his letter, Mr. Quiogue claimed:
“Interestingly, when the ratings for Wednesday were released two days later
we were surprised to see that the ratings cited by the ABS-CBN sales executive were substantially correct.”
As subscribers to the same data, you can validate for yourselves GMA’s claim. I reiterate and confirm what I said in my email reply to Mr. Quiogue, and I quote: “ABS-CBN’s claim that they have the October 4 data is absolutely false as we haven’t released any data yet and have only started to produce it today…”
As you may know, we launched the AGB Nielsen Media Research NUTAM service on 26 October 2006—the same day GMA’s letter (dated 16 October 2006) was reportedly sent to advertisers and media agencies.
The NUTAM (National Urban TV Audience Measurement) service provides the industry with an expanded panel across 90% of the national urban regions of the Philippines, which effectively gives its users a clear picture of viewing outside Metro Manila. This changes the television landscape and the manner in which advertisers will allocate their TV investments to achieve cost efficiency and maximize reach. With this larger geographical measurement
coverage, a greater level of accountability and confidence in television as a primary advertising medium is achieved.
The NUTAM service is a testament to our steadfast commitment to deliver an improved television audience measurement service. It ensures that the advertising industry in the Philippines benefits from the world’s best practice in TAM research.
We measure, and report. Nothing more, nothing less.
AGB Nielsen Media Research will protect and defend its reputation to the full extent of the law.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,

Kapamilya/Kapuso: Say something good sa rival network...

*syempre ako muna, Kapamilya me. what i like about GMA is yung creativity ng ilang shows. alam nila yung mga bagay na may hatak sa masa. and effective yung mga ginagawa nila.
also, mas natural ang dating ng ilang comedy shows nila like syempre yung Bubble Gang. spontaneous ang mga cast and talagang natural yung pagpapatawa eh.
news? tingin ko medyo mas fast-paced ang pagbabalita nila and mas direct to the point kaya tingin ko marami ang nag-switch sa 24 Oras (siguro sa deliberation na rin ni Mike hehehe). wag lang masyadong sosobra kasi baka maging o.a. na sa pagbabalita eh. yun lang.
*Gma:
lucky yung channel nila 7
maganda dati rainbow satellite me class, kesa kapuso madrama
very creative mahilig mag experimento
maraming awards {dati masasabi ko na most awarded network ang gma at abs naman ay the leading network dahil no.1 cla sa rating}dati
sa station logo mas creative cla
abs-cbn
me production value
yung visuals maganda
pang inernational ang ilang show gaya ng keep on dancing at asap satin medio naiingayan ang mga masa sa asap
*yung ibang soap opera ng abs ineexport sa ibang bansa like mula sa puso and pangako sa iyo. mukhang ok naman ang reception.
*gma is good in copying ideas from abs-cbn and when they do cpoy something they see to it na mahihigitan ang idea na pinagkunan nito like abs-cbn started marina they spoofed it to marinara, but then gma learned that most filipinos loves creatvity thats why they created mulawin,un na!
*abs is good in doing "better." totoo naman na pag may bagong show sa gma na ginagaya nila..ini-improve nila, ginagawang more glamorous, shining/shimmering/splendid.
gma is best when it comes to creativity. they aren't afraid to try something new..na most of the time ay nagki-click sa tao. tsaka kahit minimal resources, nagagawan nila ng paraan to give entertainment. yaho0!!
*ABS CBN- very good dubbing of its Koreanovela, kahit pangit ang k series na acquire nila, napapaganda bec. of their excellent dubbing.
GMA- got the best Koreanovela. Love EXTRA CHALLENGE! Galing sa fantaserye. Eagerly awaiting SUGO. Galing ng NUTS and Bubble Gang, pati "Bahay Mo Ba Ito"
*El ABS busca maneras en cómo recuperar el punto coveted. ¡Las saludo
para eso! Mientras tanto, felicitaciones a GMA para ser número uno,
porque darnos demostraciones de la calidad y la hospitalidad
maravillosa.
¡Felicitaciones del ABS CBN... también!
*matatalino ang mga tao behind GMA kaya ang gaganda ng concepts ng bago nilang shows (altho, yung iba nga ay ideas ng ABS. sabi nga nung prof ko dati, ok lang mangopya, as long as you can make it better. weird pero yan kasi yung umaapply sa GMA)... (i'm not saying na hindi matatalino ang nasa abs.)
while ABS CBN has a better share when it comes to good, not to mention, popular artists (i'm not saying na hindi sikat ang mga nasa GMA).
Kase you can't help but associate those artists in SOP w/ their kanya kanyang shows na gusto mo sa GMA.
*sa gma:
ok ang public affair shows nila(PINOY ABROAD, I-witness etc.)
mas maganda commedy shows nila
Eat Bulaga

*dahil sa dalawang istasyon na ito umaangat ang kalidad ng telebisyon natin...
dahil sa network war na ito gumaganda ang mga programs nila....

There they were, the complete cast of GMA 7’s newest Taiwanese import, The Frog Prince, at the network’s headquarters on October 11. All garbed in stylish white outfits, the leading femmes Joyce Zhao and Joe Chen looked every inch like adorable dolls. On the other hand, the leading men Ming Dao, Sam Wang and Johny Yan, brimmed with pop-idol charm in their retro padded jackets and styled tresses.
They spoke English better than most Filipino actors. They knew how to charm the local media as well with witty replies to standard queries concerning off-screen romances. (“I have no girlfriend now, but if we get to tour Manila tonight maybe be I’ll find one!” exclaimed Ming Dao.)
The plot of The Frog Prince is old hat; another poor and pretty girl falls for another handsome, wealthy hunk. Such a cliché just won’t do justice to the vibrant personalities of these wonderful stars—especially if the show is dubbed in Filipino. But what the local viewers don’t know won’t hurt them. They’ll be getting just half of what the cast has to offer though one half of these beautiful people are better than nothing. GMA 7 is well aware of this as the phrase “Made in Taiwan” now offers a different connotation, especially if it’s a teleserye.
The network’s head of program management Jose Mari Abacan told Life & Times that The Frog Prince is the biggest teleserye to hit Taiwan. “It was actually bigger than Meteor Garden and we have high hopes for it in the Philippines. It did very well on its premiere night on Monday,” he said.
Abacan is tasked to travel to Taiwan and Korea to shop for teleseryes. He claimed it isn’t hard to make a decision when it comes to selecting a show. He chooses whatever clicks in Taiwan and Korea. He noted that Taiwanese, Koreans and Filipinos have the same tastes when it comes to TV shows. And if the cast is very good looking, it’s sure to become a monster hit.
“Like the Mexican telenovelas, the Asian telenovelas are easy to grasp. There’s always the underdog to root for. The Asian telenovelas eventually took over when Filipino viewers discovered the Asian superstars. They didn’t look like Caucasians but they were very good looking. It was even easier to relate to them than the Mexicans,” Abacan explained.
Although the Mexican productions have run their course on Philippine television, Abacan sees no end to the Asian fever, not in the immediate future anyway. Every show that had been shipped in from Taiwan or Korea had been a hit in the Philippines, he claimed. None of the imports have ever flopped.
“We’ve been watching Chinese programs for a long time. Remember the Beautiful Sunday shows they aired every Sunday morning? That was our first taste of Chinese programming. They weren’t dubbed but we still took time to watch them. So in a way, our fondness for Chinese shows evolved in as much as they’re on prime-time now,” he said.
Abacan also claimed that the influx of Asian teleseryes has been good for local television. While he admitted it was less costly to import a show than to produce an elaborate production like Sugo, the imports also inspired local producers to come up with high quality teleseryes. “If you’ll notice, the production values of Asian shows are very high, even better than the Mexican shows. Right now, if you watch the locally produced teleseryes, they’re striving to at least equal the other Asians in terms of production values,” he said.
Yet Life & Times noted that high-quality programming from Hollywood has long been on Philippine television and they did nothing to inspire local producers. Abacan explained that Hollywood shows offer a vastly different culture, unlike the Asian shows, which is closer to home. “My favorite show is Desperate Housewives. It’s a fantastic series but a local producer would find it too hard to offer something similar to what that great show has to offer. The culture it projects is much too different. The average Filipino can never relate to it,” he pointed out.
When asked if the dubbing of shows in Filipino actually affected the quality of the original material, Abacan said: “We would have used subtitles instead but it would be harder for the mass audience to grasp. It’s hard to translate the foreign languages on paper.
Meanwhile, thanks to the Asian teleseryes, Philippine television is suffering from a trade deficit of sorts, with the Philippines on the losing end. Abacan said GMA 7 is trying to fix this. It is marketing Sugo in Taiwan and the United States and he said the response to the show has so far been encouraging.
While Abacan reiterated he sees no end to the popularity of Korean and Taiwanese shows, he said he knows where to shop next once this happens. “They have great things showing in India, Japan and Malaysia. Wait until you see them!”

"THE COMPETITION'S loss is our gain," declared Wilma Galvante, GMA 7 vice president for TV Entertainment, when asked to comment about ABS-CBN's losses amounting to P141 million in the first quarter of the year.
"Business was good for us during the first quarter," Galvante told Inquirer Entertainment in an exclusive interview at her office in Quezon City. "This was brought about by the increase in our ratings that began late last year. We are happy that we were able to sustain it."
Galvante said the ratings registered "a total turnaround" when GMA 7 launched the fantaserye "Mulawin" last August. "But even before that, we were No. 1 in terms of total day averaging. We just could not claim we were No. 1 at the time because we hadn't topped the soap block. We were prudent. Our order from the chair (Felipe L. Gozon) was to [first] win on all the blocks."
She pointed out that her team worked on accomplishing that goal, by "doing very well" in their programming.
"When we started working on the soap block, we knew that the competition had a big edge," said Galvante. "But that didn't deter us from producing more shows. We knew we had to start somewhere. So we went into 'soap' production, developed our expertise and learned from our previous projects."
With that as springboard, Galvante said, the network's climb to No. 1 was "unstoppable."
She explained: "Viewers' watching habits was also a big factor. At the start, the impression was that good soaps were produced only by the competition. So the programs we were producing, even if they were of good quality, were not being noticed."
Her network first saw its soap-block rating climb from 17 percent to 32 percent, Galvante said, when it launched "Sana Ay Ikaw Na Nga," starring Dingdong Dantes and Tanya Garcia, in the last quarter of 2001. "The rival show was also good, so it was a neck-and-neck race," she added. "But we persevered; we refused to give in."
In April 2002, GMA 7 produced "Kung Mawawala Ka" starring Eddie Garcia. The show got good reviews, but the network still failed to make it to the top slot, recounted Galvante.---si Camlon andito wahaha "This was at the time when 'Extra Extra!' (then hosted by Paolo Bediones and Miriam Quiambao) was evolving into 'Extra Challenge.' This reality show really brought in the ratings. Nagkakatulungan na ang mga shows (It became a concerted effort). The audience was slowly getting interested."
The program flow further improved, she said, when the high ratings of "Extra Challenge" was followed by equally good ratings for "Mulawin." Then they introduced innovations, she said. "We sat down with people and scouted around for a dependable digital imaging group that could translate to video the kind of pictures that we were seeing in our heads."
Galvante said the goal was not just to air a program and make sure it rated well, but also to deliver viewer satisfaction. At this point, she hopes for only one thing: "That viewer interest does not deteriorate. People must have seen how much more we worked to improve our shows with 'Encantadia.' Masarap panoorin, maganda sa mata (Great to watch, easy on the eyes)."
Of their latest adventure-series, "Sugo" (whose pilot episode aired on July 4), Galvante said, "No one wants to overdose on fantasy programs."
Galvante concluded: "This success we're experiencing did not happen overnight. This came about because we were very focused on winning."

A Closer Look at Filipino Soap Operas... Know More

A Closer Look at Filipino Soap Operas

The Channel War is taking a new turn with the competition-oriented
principles of Marketing Warfare expounded by Al Reis and Jack Trout,
with its novel slants and surprises.
The programming mix of the evening primetime block — that
three-hour
period of television broadcast right after the evening news — is
changing fast. ABS-CBN 2 and GMA 7 have always reserved this period
for a combination of a reality show, a fantasy series, a melodrama
and an imported telenovela. GMA took the brave move of disregarding
this well-tested formula in the present season by having two fantasy
series in the primetime block. But ABS-CBN has an attack ready.
The surprisingly high rating of the new soap opera Mga Anghel na
Walang Langit has stirred the television landscape, giving the show a
breakthrough status. GMA was caught unprepared for such a program
genre — a soap opera for and by kids. The same thing happened
when
ABS-CBN fielded Goin' Bulilit against GMA's Naks and Mel & Joey. The
children-oriented show was not a competitor of said GMA shows and,
being the first to target such a segment, caught it vulnerable. Goin'
Bulilit soon solidified its position even before GMA could plan its
counter move.
If Mari Mar was influential in the evolution of the form and content
of local soap operas and Meteor Garden emphasized that soap operas do
not have to be American to sell, Mga Anghel na Walang Langit made it
Pinoy and showed that a soap opera can have high viewership without
big stars and a big budget. It might well have given us the formula
for the essential Third World soap opera for global Pinoys.
Gone are the Gulong ng Palad and Marinela days. By some stroke of pop
destiny, certain developments in soap operas from other parts of the
world cause our own to undergo some sort of mutation, which brings
production values to higher levels, including drama and direction.
But this time around, it is a local soap opera that is doing it. This
is no less than a tremendous leap in popular culture and it might as
well create ripples in the worldwide soap opera industry.
What do future local soap operas look like? Where are they headed?
Here's a summary.
Sticking to melodrama
GMA's shift from one to two fantasy series during the soap-opera
block proved strong for a certain period. But now, it has turned into
a weakness as the company wrongly assumed that ABS-CBN would have two
fantasy series, namely, Panday and Kampanerang Kuba. ABS-CBN knows
that this block is pegged on melodrama. That is why when Qpids
(supposed to replace Spirits) encountered a technical glitch, ABS-CBN
stuck to melodrama by quickly producing Mga Anghel na Walang Langit
with its children-oriented narrative.
As a result, GMA has been forced to realign its primetime programming
with the high ratings of Mga Anghel na Walang Langit. GMA was forced
to schedule its primetime giant Extra Challenge at a later slot
because the attack of Lilliputian people proved too strong. GMA
brainsharers were surely banging their heads like never before when
Goin' Bulilit posted unheard-of ratings. It aired its two fantasy
serials back-to-back around the time slot of Mga Anghel na Walang
Langit to maintain its partial stronghold of the prime-time block.
GMA knows that if it loses control of the primetime block, its claim
of being the number one broadcast station will be greatly imperiled.
It will put in jeopardy its Initial Public Offering, which it has
already postponed. It is trying to remain competitive by quietly
producing a melodrama with a copycat plot of Mga Anghel na Walang
Langit.
What GMA failed to perceive is that ABS-CBN is planning to have two
melodramas. On May 16, it opened Ikaw ang Lahat sa Akin, co-directed
by Erik Reyes and Jerome Pobocan in the French style, starring some
of Star Magic's premium talents. This includes Claudine Barretto,
Diether Ocampo, John Lloyd Cruz, Bea Alonzo, Angelika dela Cruz and
Shaina Magdayao. Shaina gets three leading men: Rafael "RJ"
Martinez,
Kiko Matos and DM Sevilla. In connection with its 13th anniversary
festivity, this drama series is a showcase Star Magic talents.
Ikaw Ang Lahat Sa Akin is written by John Roque, Denise Reyes and
Mari Lamasan. Although it remains faithful to the things that make a
soap opera a highly patronized television genre, it does not follow
type; it is not emotionally charged and free from improbable twists.
Director Erik says, "It's the soap opera that attempts to get
close
as possible to real life. It imitates life, not dramatizes it. It
also makes us realize that our importance as individuals springs from
how much we have loved people important to us, to people we can
say, 'Ikaw ang lahat sa akin.'"
In Ikaw Ang Lahat Sa Akin, the characters of Claudine Barretto and
Bea Alonzo are sisters separated when Claudine was five. Noni
Buencamino, Claudine's father, abandoned her and her mother, Jacklyn
Jose, to live with well-to-do mistress Carmi Martin. But Claudine and
Bea's paths cross again. This time, Bea has turned into a strange and
shy school girl, the target of pranks of the unruly John Lloyd Cruz.
Tirso Cruz III and Hilda Koronel are the parents of John Lloyd. They
have given up on him and have put their hope on bright and
intelligent Diether Ocampo to fulfill their dreams of having a
politician in the family. But unknown to Diether's family and his
rich and beautiful girlfriend Angelika dela Cruz, Diether has a dark
secret he has kept from everybody he loves, and this threatens to
destroy the life he has carefully built.
Ikaw ang Lahat Sa Akin is about how Bea and John Lloyd's imperfect
lives are about to take an interesting turn. An unexpected change
will come from Claudine. She is dead-set on destroying the life of
her estranged father. But what brought about this change in her? And
how will it affect the family? Typical soap opera plot, for sure, but
the non-melodramatic treatment will make it different from other soap
operas that came before it, something that will make you fall in love
and believe in the capacity for loving in defining ourselves.
Back to komiks materials
GMA claims Darna as the first adaptation of a komiks material into a
soap opera. Probably it is, but certainly it is not the first fantasy
soap opera. It's Marina, immediately followed by Krystala. The
origins of these two fantaseryes could not be missed. Marina is
Dyesebel in disguise while Krystala is a covert Darna. The estate of
author Mars Ravelo offered both komiks novels to ABS-CBN for heaps of
cash. But it refused to acquire the television rights like it did
with the franchise of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and proceeded to
create its homegrown version.
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire was the pattern of Game K N B, which
proceeded to create its own mechanics, set and even theme music,
outliving the foreign franchise. Marina deserves a similar
distinction. It started the current fantasy series trend. But this
creative mindset has changed. Even before ABS-CBN could show
adaptations of komiks novels such as Carlo Caparas' Panday and Pablo
S. Gomez's Kampanerang Kuba, the programming fluke that is Pablo
Gomez' Mga Anghel Na Walang Langit created a local television
breakthrough.
Mga Anghel Na Walang Langit an accident? Well, it is. If not for the
Qpids problem, it could have not been conceptualized. But it is bound
to happen. So that when executive vice president Charo Santos Concio
gave the go signal for the substitute show for Qpids, Goin' Bulilit
director/creative consultant Edgar Mortiz suggested a melodrama about
street kids. He based such a suggestion from the strong performance
of Wowowee when it featured street kids in its Willie of Fortune
segment.
There's no doubt Mga Anghel Na Walang Langit is a stroke of luck. Its
budget is a drop in the bucket, as we love to put it colloquially.
GMA acquired the television rights of Darna reportedly for a
staggering P1 million cash out. Because Melissa Ricks as Jericho
Rosales' leading lady failed to deliver the required input in Panday,
millions worth of footages had to be discarded and replaced. An open
audition for the role yielded more than 200 applicants ranging from
Aiza Marquez to Raya Mananquil.
In all cases, producers of komiks novels adapted into television soap
operas are opting to update the narrative to give it current flavor.
But they are not necessarily for the better. Take the case of Darna
given the title of Mars Ravelo's Darna, of course, for the popularity
push. Instead of a head full of venomous crawlers, Valentina turns
into a cobra when her adrenaline rushes. For sure, GMA's Darna is
anything but Mars Ravelo's.
Will the trend of komiks-based soap operas continue?
After the current crop of scheduled releases, for ABS-CBN, no. For
GMA, yes. ABS-CBN would have created new variations of soap operas by
the time Kampanerang Kuba and Panday end their respective runs. But
for GMA, it is the exact opposite. It will still be at it because it
is usually a season late in its programming. Despite its claim of
being the country's number one broadcast station, it continuously
fails to create programming trends which is unlikely of a station
claiming broadcast leadership. As we know by now, it prefers to come
up with clones of successful ABS-CBN introductions.
Wasn't Mulawin created this way?
No more extensions
Because of viewer and advertiser clamor, it used to be that soap
operas were extended until its dramatic possibilities were squeezed
dry. The problem with this practice is that the storyline tends to
meander, going to all sorts of directions, leaving it lacking in
focus and short of impact. Instead of maintaining interest, such
extensions become a test of loyalty. Of course, there are more
viewers who want to be entertained than be given a loyalty award,
right? Before we know it, viewership of such over-extended soap
operas has plummeted.
Having realized this programming blunder, ABS-CBN is now observing
original run schedules, the only professional way to do it like the
foreign telenovelas. (Of course, they cannot be extended for the
reason that they are canned.) Till Death Do Us Part, the Diether
Ocampo and Kristine Hermosa starrer which was developed primarily to
give in to the clamor of local and foreign-based fans, ran only for a
season. The feeling of cutting clean when it has to end gives viewers
an exhilarating feeling as well as has them clamoring for more.
Multiple directors
Directing a soap opera is such a backbreaking task that Krystala had
as much as four directors when it was still airing. Because soap
operas have a daily run, often with a cast of big stars with knotted
schedules, having multiple directors is a convenient way to keep it
going with messy airing commitments. This will continue. Ikaw Ang
Lahat sa Akin has Erik and Gilbert Perez as regular directors. Mga
Angel na Walang Langit, has three. Director Maryo delos Reyes is
joined by Lino Cayetano and May Cruz.
Targeting the foreign market
What ABS-CBN is doing now is creating teleseryes both for the
national and international markets. With the way it has developed, it
is not only creating soap operas for The Filipino Channel but also
for foreign markets where this cable service is not available. It is
vying to be an exporter of soap operas like Mexico, South Korea,
Taiwan, India, among other countries. This must also be valid for GMA
in connection with Pinoy TV, its international cable channel.
Pangako Sa 'Yo, the Kristine Hermosa, Jericho Rosales and Diether
Ocampo starrer, has turned out to be a major hit in Malaysia and
Singapore, making Kristine a recognizable face while shooting All My
Life in a cruise ship with Aga Muhlach. Director Erik explains this
appeal: "The direction to us when starting a new teleserye is to
make
it good. We are told to make the characters well-loved. We are not
instructed, for example, to create it for the export market." He
adds
that ABS-CBN teleseryes are currently screening in England and Kenya,
dubbed in their respective languages.
Director Erik closes, "Viewers are tired of plot-oriented stories
like the fantasy series. Ikaw Ang Lahat Sa Akin offers a realistic
alternative. This is the trend (in soap operas that) I see in the
future. The audience wants a cleaner, more beautiful and closer-to-
the-truth depiction of the viewers' life. I think that is where soap
operas are going."

Lovers of the Telenovela are expected to troop to the National Theatre to see live on stage Jericho Rosales, who plays Christian in Timeless, among others as he renders a sizzling and thrilling musical performance to his fans.

Filipino singer-actor Jericho Rosales is a big hit in one of Africa's largest countries, after months of watching Pangako Sa 'Yo and Sana'y Wala Nang Wakas dubbed in English.
The locals of Ghana finally had the thrill of seeing Jericho Rosales live in the flesh when he performed as the main act in the 50th Independence Anniversary festivities at the National Theatre last March 6.
"Their reaction to his visit was nothing short of wild hysteria, matching the excitement of the visits of Thalia, Pope John Paul II and F4," enthused Jericho's Management Associate, Marinez Elizalde of Manila Genesis Entertainment and Management.
"People showed up at the airport, along the streets, en route to the hotel and every place that Jericho would go. We were both so shocked. Even little kids would run to him and give him hugs and handshakes. It was amazing!" she added.
The alternate chanting and shrieking of "Christian!" and "Angelo!" (the characters Jericho played on Sana'y Wala Nang Wakas and Pangako Sa 'Yo respectively) by the frenzied mob clearly certified the 2 teleseryes as smash hits in Ghana.
"People would drop everything just to watch these shows, and have clamored for more Jericho's shows to be aired!", reported Janet Carboo-Danquah, Manager for Public Relations of Ghana's local TV3 Network.
Arranged by the promoter, Dzigbodi Attotey of N.A.G. Media Ltd., Jericho appeared on Ghana local television programs Music Music and Start where he promoted his album, and talked about the Philippines in interviews. Local radio stations committed to airplay songs from his album: Jeans Loose Fit (distributed by EMI Records). Jericho wrote all the songs in the album.
At showtime, which also featured Ghanaian award winners Batman Samini, Ofori Amposnsah and Ebo, pandemonium broke out at Jericho's initial appearance on stage rendering Nightsky, a cut from his album. Displaying his versatility as a singer apart from being an actor, Jericho's energy soared higher with his dynamic performance of MR. MART, yet another cut from the same album, as the cheering African audience rocked the theater. The only cover in his repertoire that night was John Legend's Ordinary People, which he dedicated to the appreciative crowd with which he exhorted the appreciative crowd not to act rashly but to think things through, just "take it slow, _cause you and I are all ordinary people."

Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas is a story of love, friendship and family. Ara (Kristine Hermosa) was abandoned by her mother, when she was young. She was raised by Anton and Nanay Choleng. Ara shares her joy and pain with her two best friends, Newton and Shane.
On a trip to Corregidor, Ara stumbled upon Christian (Jericho Rosales), and they fell in love at first sight. Their intertwined past caught up with them one by one, and destroyed their relationship. Ara and her family took the train, and ran off to Anton’s hometown.
While on the train, Ara met Leo (Diether Ocampo). When the train crashed, Ara is presumed dead, when in reality she was rescued by Leo. Ara agreed to pretend as Leo’s girlfriend to please his grandfather. Slowly but surely, she falls for Leo.
Sana'y wala nang wakas
Kung pag-ibig ay wagas
Paglalambing sa 'yong piling
Ay ligaya kong walang kahambing
Refrain:
Kung 'di malimot ng tadhana
Bigyang tuldok ang ating ligaya
Walang hanggan ay hahamaking
'Pagkat walang katapusan kitang iibigin
Chorus:
Kahit na ilang tinik ay kaya kong tapakan
Kung 'yan and paraan upang landas mo'y masundan
Kahit ilang ulit ako'y iyong saktan

To say that Angelika dela Cruz-Maria Lourdes Egger dela Cruz in real life-is happy these days is an understatement. The 22-year-old drama actress not only has a career that's doing fine, she also has a new house to show for her almost-seven-year stint in showbiz. In addition, her Austrian mother Angelika, a German-language teacher who stayed in Japan for 13 years, is now home for good. And best of all, she has a special someone who brightens her smile, someone who goes by the name of Victor Neri.
Angelika's life is almost like a tele novela, but without the villains. Her father, Ernesto dela Cruz, used to be a member of the Bayanihan Dance Group. On one of the troupe's many travels abroad, he met Angelika Egger of Austria. He brought her to the Philippines, they got married, and they had two children, Maria Lourdes and Edward. Maria Lourdes, known as Sunshine at home, is now Angelika dela Cruz, having borrowed her mother's first name to use as her screen name. Edward is now lead singer and guitarist for the boy band Freshmen.
Mr. dela Cruz eventually dropped out of the dancing profession and shifted to the business of talent promotions, which allowed him frequent visits to Japan. He often took his wife with him. Mrs. dela Cruz soon found a lucrative job as a German-language teacher in Japan, and she ended up staying there for 13 years. During that period, the marriage fell apart. The formal separation came in 1992, when Sunshine was 11 and Edward was 9. It was, however, a very friendly breakup. The kids were left in their father's care, while their mother kept them posted from abroad.
When Sunshine turned 14, her own life took a different spin. She auditioned to sing the theme of the canned cartoon series "Sailor Moon." Backed by her father who had a knack for performing, she made it. That became her ticket to mainstream show business.
"My first movie was Night of Serafina," recalls Angelika. "Magfi-fifteen pa lang ako noon, pero akala ng mga tao, magbo-bold ako. Kapa-kapatid lang naman ang role ko. Bale doon naman ako nakita ng ABS-CBN."
At ABS-CBN, she became part of two soap-opera hits, "Mara Clara Book 2" and "Esperanza," plus the teen hip horror show "Okatokat." Along the way, Angelika, whose real intention was to become a
singer, also landed recording deals, one with BMG Pilipinas and one with Imperial Records, which succeeded in selling her album in Japan.
"Kasi mukha daw akong anime," she amuses herself. "Malalaki daw mata ko, parang anime."
As these successes were happening in Angelika's life, her parents' married life was unraveling. Even before the marriage was finally annulled six years ago, Mr. dela Cruz became father to another boy, Erick, now 12, whose mother is Japanese. The former Mrs. dela Cruz, for her part, became mother to a girl, Mariko, 4, whose father is also Japanese. These relationships did not lead to second marriages but also ended in separation. Yet in the course of all these events, the former husband and wife managed to become even closer as friends.
Daddy Ernie tells this story:
"No'ng magpapagawa na kami ng bahay, sabi ng Mommy niya, magse-share daw siya, kasi daw gusto na niyang umuwi dito. So, nagshare siya ng eight million. Siyempre, mas malaki ang share ni Angelika, pero 'wag na nating sabihin. Ako, nagbigay din, pero ang contribution ko is itong lupa na minana ko naman sa mga magulang ko."
These days, the former married couple are living under the same roof, together with their two children and the two other children they have begotten from other relationships. Happily, the six-bedroom house allows them to have a room each.
In the beginning, there was a debate about building the new house in Malabon. Angelika and her mother, who's now back to being Ms. Angelika Egger, wanted to transfer location. Her father, feeling very attached to the place, did not. In the end, he won them over.
But the decision to stay in Malabon was also prompted by-who would've guessed?-a political career for Angelika. As early as now, she is being wooed by contending political parties to run for councilor. And the "Habang Kapiling Ka" star is seriously considering going the way of Vilma Santos and Joey Marquez.
"Kung kakayanin ng schedule ko, bakit hindi?" Angelika says. "Sino ba ang ayaw makatulong? Yong maging role model ng mga kabataan dito, malaking bagay 'yon, e. Saka isa pa, ang mga kabataan dito, takot sa akin."
In any case, the house construction took over a year to finish. But now Angelika's house is a dominant sight in Barangay Longos, Malabon City. And the soap princess not only seizes every moment she can spend in the house she helped build, she also gets the chance to be with the mother she lost 12 years from.
"Cool kami ng mommy ko, " she says of the original Angelika. "Pag kay Mommy ka nagpaalam, sige lang, go on... pag kay Daddy, magse-set 'yan ng time kung anong oras ka uuwi."
At the moment, she really has nothing much to ask for. But she still dreams, and part of that dream is to own another house.
"'Yong akin na talaga," she smiles.

Sharon Cuneta/Jessa Zaragosa
'Pagkat walang katapusan kitang iibigin (sekiranya tiada hentinya kau ku cintai)
Chorus:
Kahit na ilang tinik ay kaya kong tapakan (walaupun berkali-kali ranjau ku lalui)
Kung 'yan and paraan upang landas mo'y masundan (kalau itulah caranya untuk ku menyusuri mu)
Kahit ilang ulit ako'y iyong saktan (walau berkali-kali kau menyakiti ku)
Sana'y wala nang wakas (semoga tiada akhirnya)

Philippines' network ABS-CBN showcases yet another top-calibre primetime series, "Maging Sino Ka Man (Whoever You May Be)," which premiered on Friday, October 6 after the "Bituing Walang Ningning" grand finale.
magingMaging Sino Ka Man (MSKM) stars the country's premier actors and actresses John Lloyd Cruz, Bea Alonzo, Anne Curtis and Sam Milby. Adding strength to this powerhouse roster of stars is newest Kapamilya, the local showbiz's veteran dramatic actor: Christopher de Leon.
After the launch of their powerful love team during the phenomenal ABS-CBN series, "It Might Be You," and starring in top-grosser movies, John Lloyd and Bea are back again in primetime television.
John Lloyd plays the role of Eli Davide, a persevering guy who comes from a poor family and believes that love can surpass every challenge that may come his way.
Bea Alonzo is Jackie Madrigal. Jackie is from a rich family but remains humble. She is the epitome of a rich girl living a perfect life who has internal struggles and conflicts that she combats everyday.
After her role in the ABS-CBN teleseries "Hiram," and her big break in the title role of "Kampanerang Kuba," Anne Curtis returns to TV as Celine Magsaysay. Celine is a go-getter and aggressive girl who faces every trial in her life head on. She poses a tough image for everyone to see but in reality she is shadowed by her own sadness.
He was well-loved and received during his short stay as a housemate in "Pinoy Big Brother (PBB)" and following a hit movie "You are the One," Sam Milby invades the small screen in MSKM. Sam is JB Berenguer, a part of a rich and prominent family who is closely attached to his mother. He could have anything a man could wish for, except for his freedom.
Multi-awarded Christopher de Leon joins the Kapamilya roster of stars as he plays Fidel Madrigal. He is the father of Jackie, and despite his successes in life, he still is in search for his true happiness. He is willing to risk everything he has to achieve peace and happiness.
Versatile actress Chin-Chin Gutierrez stars as Corazon Vda. De Berenguer, an heir of an established corporation. She comes from a dark past that gives her a hateful outlook in life, but in her is a pure heart.
Also in the series are Dick Israel and Bing Pimental as John Lloyd‚s parents and Smokey Manaloto as his brother.
At the helm of this production are first-rate directors Eric Reyes and Mae Czarina Cruz. Head writer Shaira Mella is joined by Generiza Reyes and Ricardo Fernando III, with Ricky Lee as the creative manager.

Bea's Rich, Lloydy's Poor
The lowdown on Maging Sino Ka Man
Maging Sino Ka Man, starring John Lloyd Cruz, Bea Alonzo, Sam Milby and Anne Curtis is inspired by American dramas like Dynasty and the Shakespeare masterpiece Romeo and Juliet.
Shaira Mella, the teleserye's headwriter reveals, "It's filmic in its approach. It's not the usual talkies-type of drama show. It's very visual. We show a lot of full exterior location shots that can only be possible in films. There are cityscapes, a ship at a commercial wharf, plus the extravagant wardrobes worn by the cast."
The series is directed by Erick Reyes and Mae Cruz. Production design is by Noel Ribaya who teams up with Ginny Monteaguado-Ocampo's supervision. Edd Sy showcases his tasteful suit designs for Sam whil Edward Teng handles Bea's wardrobe.
John Lloyd plays Eli Davide, who falls in love with rich girl Jackie Madrigal (Bea).
Mella reveals, "You will see a more sensual, mature John Lloyd and Bea."
Sam Milby is JB, a character inspired by Richard Gere's role in Pretty Woman, while Anne Curtis plays Jackie's cousin, the loud, tactless and easy-go-lucky Celine. The powerhouse cast includes Christopher de Leon, Chin-Chin Gutierrez, Irma Adlawan, Bing Pimentel, Dick Israel, Smokey Manaloto, Keanna Reeves, Malou de Guzman and Ramon Zamora.

Ang pag-ibig ay sadyang ganyan - cinta sememangnya begitu
Tiwala sa isa't-isa'y kailangan - perlukan kepercayaan antara satu sama lain
Dati mong pag-ibig wala akong pakialam - ku tak pedulikan cinta mu yang lalu
Basta't mahal kita kailan pa man - yang ku tahu aku mencintai mu buat selamanya
H'wag kang mag-isip ng ano pa man - jangan kau fikirkan apa pun jua
Mga paliwanag mo'y di ko kailangan - ku tak perlukan kau menerangkannya
At kahit ano pa ang iyong nakaraan - dan apa pun jua yang kau telah lalui
Mamahalin kita maging sino ka man - ku kan mencintai mu walau siapa pun diri mu
Refrain:
Mahal kita pagkat mahal kita - ku mencintai mu sejak ku jatuh cinta pada mu
Iniisip nila ay hindi mahalaga - mereka fikirkan ini tidak berharga
Mahal kita maging sino ka man - ku mencintai mu walau siapa pun diri mu
Mali man ang ikaw ay ibigin ko - walaupun salah kau ku cintai
Ako'y isang bulag na umiibig sa'yo - aku lah seorang buta yang menyayangi mu
At kahit ano pa ang iyong nakaraan - dan apa pun jua yang kau lalui
Mamahalin kita maging sino ka man - ku kan mencintai mu walau siapa pun diri mu.

Eli is Mr. Nice Guy of Tondo. Though he was cared for by a family not his own, he grew up on a rich diet of principle and love -- love that he received from his adoptive father, Dadoods, his older brother, Pong, and until 5 years ago, his strict but loving mother, Eloisa. He loved them above everything else in this world. He would do anything humanly possible to protect them from harm. Thus, when he learns that his Kuya Pong agrees to be the get-away driver in a kidnapping, he does all he can to save his brother from disaster. But, too late. When he gets to the scene of the crime, he finds his brother badly hurt from the failed kidnapping attempt, entrusting to him the care of the unconscious kidnap victim – Jackie. Against his better judgment, Eli heeds his brother’s plea.
Jackie, it turns out, is the sole heiress to a banking empire, the golden girl of high society. Jackie is the kind of person who finds happiness in making other people happy. She is also the fiancée of JB, a successful general manager of the family-owned shipping company. Like Jackie, he is the pride of high society and the joy of his mother, Corazon. But JB finds solace in Celine’s arms during Jackie’s disappearance.
Celine is Jackie’s first cousin and her exact anti-thesis. Considered the shame of her family. Celine, who, in spite of her happiness at Jackie’s return, feels extreme sadness because during her cousin’s absence, she and JB had grown close. Close enough for her to hope that JB would love her back. JB, whom she has loved all her life.
Like Celine, Eli, too, is brokenhearted. Now that she is back with her family and back in the arms of JB, the rightful owner of her heart, she is lost to him forever. But, he relents to fate, thinking that the most beautiful chapter in his life has ended. That is until he crosses paths with Jackie again.
Maging Sino Ka Man is a primetime teleserye where each one will be able to find a piece of themselves in the characters who are all on a quest to find ultimate happiness in loving.
Four lives. Four hearts. All will learn to love and hope in a complicated world while searching for truth. Everyone is ready to gamble everything, everyone hoping for happiness, freedom and love.

My morning starts to shine
With teardrops in my eyes
And here I am alone starting to realize
That my days would be brighter
If I could learn to hide
The feeling that I have for you
Keeps haunting me inside
Then my days begin
With simple thoughts of you
Hoping that tomorrow will be me and you
Sharing dreams with each other
And making them come true
Holding one another, saying all I need is you
But will you say that you love me
And show me that you care
Say when I need you
You will always be there
But if you go and leave me
(Ooh) This I swear is true
My love will always be with you
Now my nights would end
With just one wish, that's you
To hold me in the dark
And help me make it through
'Cause the pain that's inside me
Would simply melt away
If I had you here with me
And promise me you'd stay
But will you say that you love me
And show me that you care
Say when I need you
You will always be there
But if you go and leave me
(Ooh) This I swear is true
My love will always be with you
But will you say that you love me
And show me that you care
Say when I need you
You will always be there
But if you go and leave me
(Ooh) This I swear is true
My love will always be with you
My love will always
My love will always ooh, ooh
My love will always be with you

What is this I'm feelin'
I just can't explain
When you're near
I'm not quite the same
I try to hide it
Try not to show it
It's crazy, how could this be
I'm fallin' for you
Finally my heart gave in
And I'm fallin' in love
I've finally known
How it feels
When you said "hello"
I looked in your eyes
Suddenly I felt good inside
Is this really happening
Or am I just dreaming
I guess it's true
I can't believe
I'm fallin' for you
Finally my heart gave in
And I'm fallin' in love
I've finally known
How it feels
So this is love
It doesn't matter where I am
Thoughts of you still linger
In my mind
No matter what time of day
I'm really, really
Fallin' for you
I'm fallin' for you
Finally my heart gave in
And I'm fallin' in love
I've finally known
How it feels
So this is love

MTB TV Idol Ahron Villena is the newest member of the MTB: Ang Saya-Saya family. Having recently won the coveted hosting job, Ahron now appears regularly on the show. On the other hand, his fellow TV Idol finalists AJ Dee, Marc Cortez, JE Sison and Kiko Matos appear on separate weekdays. They are seen on-screen pitting their singing, dancing and hosting skills with the other noontime hosts. They are true testaments of MTBs ability of being able to showcase wholesome family entertainment and Workshop@ABS-CBNs dedication to mold future artists through specialized training.
The MTB TV Idol search innovates the usual contest on TV by showing that good looks and charisma are not the only winning criteria needed but also talent. The TV Idols have gone through extensive training at Workshop@ABS-CBN under the supervision of Star Magics (Talent Center) SVP Johnny Manahan and Workshop@ABS-CBNs manager Beverly Vergel. Workshops in acting, voice, dance, speech and comedy improvision not only enhanced their confidence and skills but equipped them with the discipline and values that would aid them in their future showbiz careers. Seasoned host Boy Abunda and Dominic Ochoa in turn shared their knowledge and experiences in their hosting workshop.

May isang umagang `di mo hahagkan
May isang umagang `di mo hahagkan
Kahit hiram

The hottest young love team of the year returns with the biggest teleserye of the season as ABS-CBN presents John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo in It Might Be You, which debuted last Monday, November 8, right after Sana'y Wala Nang Wakas.
It Might Be You brings a fresh, youthful and light touch to the teleserye genre in this refreshing love story centering on Earl Lawrence Trinidad (John Lloyd Cruz) and Cielo San Carlos (Bea Alonzo), two teens in the small town of Montegracia.
John Lloyd and Bea are also joined by an acclaimed cast who will bring the vision of this teleserye to life.
John Lloyd plays the only child of the Trinidads, the ruling family in the small town of Montegracia. "I'm so glad to be in another ABS-CBN teleserye, especially in a project that's so different from my previous ones, which have required me to be so dramatic week in and week out," said the young actor. "I just wish that the fans would support It Might Be You the way they supported Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay."
Bea Alonzo plays Cielo San Carlos, the feisty adopted daughter of the San Carlos family, who operates the town's local movie theatre.
"It's such a good feeling to be back in a teleserye, because it's like forming another new family - one that contains John Lloyd and Miss Jean (Garcia) from my old family at Kay Tagal," Bea says.
Another top teen idol, John Pratts, has been tapped to play the role of Gian Carlo Pablo, Lawrence's adopted brother. "This is actually my first teleserye," John notes. "After 12 years in show business, I've finally gotten the chance to be in a teleserye, and I'm really excited, because this is a really different project."
Jean Garcia essays a completely different role as Orlanda Mae Lacuesta, the "town-idiot" who holds the secret of the town of Montegracia.
"There are two things I'm thankful for regarding It Might Be You," says Jean. "First is that I have another teleserye with the ABS-CBN family. Secondly, I have a new role that keeps me from being typecast, because Ola is such a different role for me, and that makes it an exciting challenge."
Tirso Cruz III and Maritoni Fernandez take on the roles of the all-powerful Mayor Ernesto Lord Trinidad and his wife, Dr. Frida Montegracia-Trinidad, who both head the most respected family in the town of Montegracia. "I'm looking forward to working with this group, having heard a lot of really great things about ABS-CBN's teleserye team in the past," says Tirso, who is doing his first teleserye for the network. This also marks Maritoni's return to the teleserye genre since gracing another ABS-CBN teleserye, Darating Ang Umaga.
Two more acclaimed actors make their teleserye debut with It Might Be You, as children's TV veteran Bodjie Pascua (best-known for his roles on Batibot and Epol/Apple) and controversial former sexy star Sarsi Emmanuelle take on the roles of Eseng and Lupe San Carlos, Cielo's parents.
"I've been out of show business for more than 10 years," notes Sarsi. "Mostly, my fears are only drawn from whether I can give the kind of performance people expect from the ABS-CBN teleseryes. I really hope I can - this project deserves it."
"I don't really know what to expect, this being my first teleserye," says Bodjie. "It's a little daunting, but then I realize I'm surrounded by many people who are veterans of this genre. All I hope for is that people can accept this new side of me, now that I'm not in a children's program anymore."
After his role in the smash hit teleserye Bituin, Gardo Versoza assumes his newest teleserye part as Camilo San Carlos, Eseng's younger brother and Cielo's mysterious uncle. "It's an exciting project for me because It Might Be You is trying to present something different for the viewer. It's not all drama, drama, drama, but it has humor in it, too... just like life," says Gardo.
Baron Geisler also marks a return to the teleserye fold as Derek Castro, Cielo's friend. "It's my only other teleserye project after Recuerdo de Amor, and I'm glad that this character is not an average teenybopper like Fonzy from Tabing Ilog. It's another interesting character for me to play, he has responsibilities, a job, a different aura."
It Might Be You also introduces a new young star, Maja Salvador, in the role of Cara.
It Might Be You is directed by Gilbert Perez and Don Cuaresma.
Ricky Lee serves as the series' Creative Manager and Headwriter. Olivia M. Lamasan is It Might Be You's Creative Director, with Malou N. Santos as the Executive In-Charge of Production and Annaliza A. Goma serving as Supervising Producer. Grace Ann Casimsiman is the Executive Producer.

IT MIGHT BE YOU
ERIK SANTOS-version
Time... I've been passing time watching trains go by
All of my life...
Lying on the sand, watching seabirds fly
Wishing there would be
Someone waiting home for me...
Something's telling me it might be you
It's telling me it might be you...
All of my life...
Looking back as lovers go walking past...
All of my life
Wondering how they met and what makes it last
If I found the place
Would I recognize the face?
Something's telling me it might be you
Yeah, it's telling me it might be you
So many quiet walks to take
So many dreams to wake
And we've so much love to make
I think we're gonna need some time
Maybe all we need is time...
And it's telling me it might be you
All of my life...
I've been saving love songs and lullabies
And there's so much more
No one's ever heard before...
Something's telling me it might be you
Yeah, it's telling me it must be you
And I'm feeling it'll just be you
All of my life...
It's you..
It's you...
I've been waiting for all of my life...
Maybe it's you...
Maybe it's you...
I've been waiting for all of my life...
Maybe it's you...
Maybe it's you...
I've been waiting for all of my life...
Repeat to fade...

Twenty-year-old actor Marco Alcaraz said that he once questioned God for what was happening to his life.
It all happened after he sustained an ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament). He was then a varsity player for the San Sebastian Stags and he had high hopes of joining the Philippine Basketball Association after college.
"I came all the way from Cebu. My parents knew how much I wanted to be a professional basketball player someday.. That?s why they supported my decision to study in Manila. But then ACL happened. I asked God why, because I worked hard to be in the team. I was devastated. I cried for months!" His injury put him in therapy for almost six months. Without a clue as to what will become of his childhood dream, he was convinced to dabble in modeling. At 6?1, with good looks and a ball player?s physique, he was a shoo-in as a ramp model. It was then through his modeling that he met his manager Arnold Vigafria of ALV Productions. He was asked if he wanted to audition for a role in one of ABS-CBN?s new soap opera last year. For reasons he couldn?t fathom, he risked personal embarrassment to try acting. Acting, he recalled, was something he laughed at when he was in high school. Already a ball player he would find it amusing to see his friends act in school plays.
"I was so depressed then that I decided to audition and probably do acting for while I was recovering. But I wasn?t expecting a role that big. I got in and everything followed. I suddenly was enjoying acting. I was very happy?the irony was that I didn?t like acting before in school and now I?m the one pursuing an acting career," Marco stated. His audition was a success and last year the name Marco Alcaraz became a byword on prime time television in ABS-CBN?s "It Might Be You." He was the third angle in the love triangle in the movie with John Lloyd and Bea Alonzo.
Televiewers avidly watched to see who would get the girl in the end. For Marco, "It Might Be You" was a big break for him in showbiz. He never had any experience in acting nor did he know anything about dealing with other actors then. He didn?t even know how popular the tandem of John Lloyd and Bea Alonzo was. In an instant, Marco, the actor, was also becoming a hit like his soap opera.
"For me, the Lord works in mysterious ways. Sometimes things happen that you don?t understand. But you realize everything has a purpose," Marco shared.
He added that at the moment he has benched his dream to be a professional basketball player. But he still plays the game given the time. In fact, he is scheduled to leave for Bahrain in a month?s time for an exhibition game with past PBA superstars.
As he made a name in "It Might Be You," he was luckily cast in BAS Films? "Ae****e Imasu 1941: Mahal Kita," an official entry to last year?s Metro Manila Film Festival. He made a mark as the loyal assistant to the Japanese captain who fell in love and impregnated a Filipina. Since then he has done guest appearances in various shows and has hosted events.
"Hanggang ngayon dumarating ang mga blessings. This is why I realized that probably I wasn?t really meant to play ball. I mean I even injured my arm when I was in Cebu a few years back. Maybe He is just leading me into another way, the right way?blessing in disguise yung ACL. Because of it I was included in the love-triangle with John and Bea," he shared. The good projects that kept pouring into his lap have brought Marco to a seeming ethereal level of happiness. Who wouldn?t? After seeing his childhood dream crumble right in front of him, a bigger door of opportunity opened for him.
The limelight, the popularity that goes with being a pro in basketball would have happened in many years and the probability of it materializing could have been slim. But he got those in a matter of months with his break in "It Might Be You." He also meant so much for him that he could provide some financial assistance to his family even though they don?t need it. For him, it was his simple way of saying thank you for their wholehearted support in all his endeavors. (Marco is currently in the one month special episode of "Wansapanataym" entitled "D Supers" wherein he plays a super hero with the power of super speed.)
"As of now, I haven?t set any goals in showbiz. I just make it a point that whatever role is given to me, I would do my best to make it come out as effective as possible. I really would do my best to give justice to my roles!" Marco?s latest challenge as an actor is in Ben "M7" Yalung?s "Birhen ng Manaoag" which is slated for a Holy Week release. In the movie that retells the story of the "Birhen ng Manaoag" on film, he plays a seminarian and a researcher and expert on the story of the miraculous Birhen ng Manaoag. According to the director, he immediately cast Marco because of his good aura which the filmmaker took as a good sign. On the other hand, the screenplay writer Chris Vallez explained that the expressive eyes of the actor caught his attention. He said that Marco had a sad look in his eyes. The reason for such emotional requirement was because of the plight of Marco?s character. In the film, as a seminarian, he suddenly lost faith in God when his mother, played by Alicia Alonzo, died. He couldn?t believe it when this tragic event transpired because he has devoted all his life to serving God. For Marco the biggest challenge for him in the film was his reaction when his screen mother died.
"If you saw the trailer, you?d know that it was hard for me to break the statues of saints. I?m a Catholic and it felt wrong to be throwing those statues on the floor and breaking them. There was really hesitation on my part but then it was a job I had to do."
He added that at his present stage as an actor, his vulnerability is also one of his challenges. "I often run out of motivation to deliver the needed emotion. I have a happy life but I just know that a happy life is not an excuse not to be able to cry when needed. I really need motivation on that part and I worked hard to be more effective in my characterizations."
Staying for five days in Manaoag, Pangasinan, Marco was fortunate to be close to the statue of the Birhen ng Manaoag as compared to devotees who adore the Blessed Virgin from a distance. "I was so close that when I pray to her, I can just feel her presence. Just looking at her eyes felt like she was talking to me. My faith really became stronger after doing this film?it was just unfortunate that I wasn?t able to see the miraculous petals," he intimated.
Joining him in "Birhen ng Manaoag" is Joyce Jimenez, Eddie Garcia, Albert Martinez, Jodi Santamaria, Cherry Pie Picache, Bianca King, Jean Garcia, Ina Feleo, Ella Guevarra, Paolo Paraiso and Matthew Hunt as Jesus Christ.
As of now, Marco has realized that showbiz is not all about glamor and fame. It is also about passion in being an actor.
"I?m already a year old in the business and I thought before that showbiz was an easy thing to do. Then I found out that you have to internalize your roles and you have to read the scripts. You go through sleepless nights; acting is really a very tough job. The competition is stiff and you have to do your best in everything. Whenever an opportunity comes along you just have to grab it and make the most out of it!"
Marco Alcaraz has transformed his passion in basketball to acting and he has been making all his shots! He is one versatile actor ON THE RISE!
