hi as you know i am waiting to see if my pony is who we think he is ,cameron moscow sired bt warren playaway, anyway hes 14 mths old and has lots of white hair coming on bum and back end, will he go roan ? also does anyone else have warrens babies xx
Has he got his full summer coat? i think roans tend to go almost white bodied in spring then shed that and go darker for the summer, if he is only just starting to go white could he maybe be a grey? if there is no white on the head then probably roan, do you have any pics?.
I also have a Playaway baby called Ozzie (registered name is Mockbeggar Oscar) who has just turned 5 years. He's chestnut roan and has lots of white in his coat at the moment.
This pic was taken a couple of weeks ago of us up on the South Downs Way.

Ozzie was quite fine when I bought him in Feb 2007 but he's chunked up loads and has grown to a full height of 14.2 during the last 16 months.
He is going through a difficult adolescent stage at the moment and although he's gentle in hand, he's quite energetic, willful and opinionated to ride at the moment. This has been quite tricky to deal with because he's also very sensitive and spooky too.
I'm hoping it's just a stage and he grows out of it before my confidence is completely trashed..... but we'll see.

Re: roan??

Have owned 4 roans since foals and all have been roan from their 1st autumn (when they've lost their baby coat) or from birth. Horses are born as roans unlike grey which is a fading of the pigment in the hair which gets progressively more grey with age. Roans don't get more white as they get older (apart from normal old age grey when they are really old.) Maybe yours is going to be grey?
The only other thing is that my mare's dark hair is longer than her white. In winter when she has a wooly coat she looks practically bay. Also the mixture of dark to light hair varies from 1 roan to another. Maybe yours has mostly dark hair that hides the white and you can only see it now he's lost his winter coat?
Lady was chestnut when born and went roan when loosing her baby fluff. Jinny was born a bay roan. George was born bay and within months went bay roan. Queenie was born completely bay (2007), no white on her at all. Last time I saw her there were white hairs appearing. I haven't seen her close up recently, but I bet there are more white hairs and my lovely BAY baby is going like her mum!
In response to the original post, Jinny was sired by Playaway. She's now on the IOW
This was taken last year when she came 2nd at the practice show at Brockenhurst. I was slightly (!) nervous as it was her first ridden show and I was 4 months pregnant. She has a lovely temperament and I was sad to sell her.
As for Queenie, I'll have to hunt her down and take some pics!

She looks lovely and with a beautiful action. I can see why it must have been so hard to sell her. You must be very pleased to have bred her.
she looks nice claire, how many are there in your roan herd now? have you got any bays yet?. I think i am going to look for a nice bay nf foal this autumn, one thing ive discovered with roans, you cant get quite the same shine as a bay! lol
