Well, I've really missed visiting the site and feel totally out of touch. I can only get dial-up here so my visits will still be limited and pictures just take forever to come up.
Our move further south in France went smoothly. Bracken was transported in considerable style by Luck's International horse transporters. He arrived very relaxed and we walked the last Km home (as the road narrows and then goes into steep hairpin bends - not ideal for a big lorry!)
He very quickly settled to living alone and takes no notice of other horses riding by. Although, my hubby fancies getting a donkey so it looks like he'll soon have some sort of equine company.
The riding here is fantastic. Virtually no roadwork, just miles of tracks and woodland routes. Unfortunately, this does mean that I have to be extra careful when I take Bracken on any roads, as not meeting traffic regularly has not improved his behaviour with cars and vans.
Last Sunday I was very brave and did a 'randonne' (long distance pleasure ride)organised by the local horse group. I've never taken Bracken to an event before, as I only broke him in 6 months before we left England and up to now I've not felt confident enough in the language to join in here. I went with a french lady who lives at the other end of our village. 5 hours of riding together really tested my french language.
Bracken behave well, if you discount his pratting about across the field when we initially set off from the start. It was just too exciting with all those other horses about!
I am glad the journey went well and Bracken has settled in on his own as you were concerned about that. I really envy you the riding with so little road work. Although I live in a rural area the traffic seems to increase all the time. Certainly envious of the weather, it has rained all day here, our lane is flooded and there is standing water in the field with more rain to come. On a day like this, I can really see why you moved. Enjoy your riding!
