Hit & Run RTA

On Tuesday 4th November 2008 at approximately 6.45 pm a cow was hit in Chapel Lane, Burley. The driver of the vehicle drove off. The cow unfortunately ended up in the roadside ditch and was not discovered for about 2 hours. It had a broken leg and had to be destroyed.

The vehicle would have been badly damaged in the collision. Has anyone seen a damaged Vauxhall Calibra 1993/4, M or L registration torquoise in colour - perhaps on someones drive or has a garage taken the vehicle for repair or possibly scrap? Because of the location and time of day, the driver is likely to be local and probably on his way home from work.

We, and the Police are keen to trace this driver. If you have any information which may help us track him down, please contact WPC Alison Tilbury on 08450 454545 or the Verderers Office on 02380 282052.

Please remember that there is a Verderers reward scheme in existance for anyone offering information which subsequently leads to the identification and conviction of any driver involved in a 'hit & run' accident.

I really hope the culprit gets found. This cow has run with our cows for ages & she was really sweet & friendly. It was really upsetting to see her in the ditch the following morning.

Hit & Run R.T.A.

Hi, yes, the original text is the press release from the Verderers office, which should be in most of the local papers shortly, if they choose to print it. I know the feeling only to well. It is up to all of us to be extra vigilant at times like these, and report any suspicious sightings

Regards
