A update + 2 questions

It has been a long time since my last post. Some of you know about my little colt Chester who had cut his tendon in spring '07. He's doing great!! Last year may we brought him back to the group and he has been in the field with the other lads for 6 months. Now they are all inside, still in groups. One more month and they are going to the fields again. After september this year Chester will come home to be trained. Then he's 3,5 yrs old.

My 17 yr old Forest gelding is not doing very well since 1 year. He's very quickly out of breath and he's making some noice in trot and galop. Last week the vet was here again and she could finally tell me that he has 'asthma'. She would love to see him going back to the fields, so do i. But the problem is he's getting to fat in the fields. He just can't stop eating and i have a lot of work to do when the summer season has finished. I need 6 months to transform my pony from a elephant to a pony again happy.gif

But what i want to ask: does anyone of you also have a pony with 'asthma'? Do you give them anything extra while they are kept inside? How can i make his life a bit more comfortable to live with this?

I also have another question:

a year ago i got a message from a girl in Scotland. She asked me if i could find any information about her pony which was bred in Holland. I could help her as she got a email from the dutch breeder of her pony. Now i want to know if anyone can help me. I'm still looking for the mother of my pony: Broomy Mathilde. Any information / pictures would be helpfull. My pony is born in Holland so his mum should be here also but here (at the dutch forums) there isn't anyone who can help me.

Thanks alot!!

Jennifer

Asthmatics are best living out if at all possible - stable dust of any kind can irritate it.

Do some research on "Paddock Paradise" grazing. It's a very natural system, designed to keep horses as close-to-nature as possible, moving on from one area to the next all the time. It helps to stop them getting fat (or laminitic!), keeps them a little bit fitter (always good for asthmatics), and you can restrict their food intake without restricting their ability to move around. It's also incredibly good for bare feet.

Ask you vet for input on indoor management for your asthmatic, and try any breathe-easy supplements your vet thinks might be useful.
