I was out riding today and saw this tiny little foal. I couldn't resist, so i went back and took some photos. It is the first one that i have seen this year, and as luck would have it I saw another one on the same ride! I used a really long lens so that i did not disturb them. The mare was so pretty and gentle with her baby. I couldn't read her brand, so i took a picture of it.
The foal was so little, and seemed very wobbly, I don't think that it has been in this world for very long. Bless!

Very New Baby

When I first saw this foal - on my ride - the foal was having trouble getting a leg at each corner. I took these photos a couple of hours later and it was much more in control of its pins. Its little tummy was very empty, so I think that it had literally just arrived. I saw another foal with its mum, but it was a good half a mile away and right at the limit of my camera lens, so they are about this end of the Forest!
What gorgeous foals, thankyou for posting the pictures. Its lovely to be able to 'see' the forest when your not lucky enough to live locally. Please keep the pictures coming!!

Day 2 of Foal on Picket Hill
April 3 2009, 9:58 PM
I saw this little one again. It has dried out thoroughly now and was mooching along the side of the lane with mum. I think that it will have a friend any day soon as the mare's pal - she is in the background - was looking very uncomfortable, biting her flanks and swishing her tale with that far away/in pain look about her. Bless her she needed a wheel barrow for her belly.
