I'm looking for a loaner for my New Forest pony, and I'm looking for an adult. A few people have emailed me, but people seem to be worried they would be too tall. I know at 5ft1 I don't have that problem! She is 13.3hh
Could you tell me what height you are and how big your pony is? I'd also be curious about weight if you're willing to share?
A photo would be great!

Sorry dn't want to share have 2 already! Thought it might help if you know that on the forest the ready reckoner is by weight not height, with the opinion being that a mature pony can carry about one stone to one hand, so your 13.3 should be able to carry someone of 13 stone comfortably. In the adult pony riding world it is quite nowmal for the feet to be below the horses stomach (you do have to adapt your riding style a little). My vet says that riding horses and ponies are two different skills and that not enough people appreciate this fact. If you are tall on a pony you do have to think carefully about where you are putting your upper body because you will be affecting the ponies centre of gravity! actually my pony has a centre of humour!! Seriously though you can't take a very forward position jumping and my chap (12'3 to my 8.5 stone, 5'2" )appreciates a good lean back going down hills! Hope this helps you.

Thanks for your replies - they're very helpful. I agree riding ponies and horses are so different - I've always been a pony person so I don't like riding horses! I think ponies are a lot tougher than people give them credit for sometimes.. Its amazing she can carry that much, will have to get my OH riding her!
Anne that pic is extremely helpful because the girl who is interested is your height. Its nice to see someone tall riding a pony, I am one of very few pony riders in my area, even my friend who I share a field with has gone and got herself a 15.1..
I have Homey I am not sure 100% how big he is at the moment I bought him as approx 14.1 but he always looks quite small compared to others so he may well be 13.2!
I am 5,2ft and about 8.5 stone and he carries me no problem - he probably thinks I am like a small flea on him! But he is the chunkier type of forester and has a huge barrel and short strong legs - the finer type of forester would not be able to carry so much weight.

Hi i am 5ft & 8stone and ride 12.3hh newforest, it is a shame but there seems to be a bit of a stigma about adults riding ponies i do get a few rised eyebrows when i say what i have, but i am a pony riding adult and very pround of my boy by buckland dragonslayer, best pony i have ever ridden.
My NF pony is 13.2 and a half. I am 5'5 and weigh over 10.5 stone. He carries me fine. My 6' 11 stone friend used to ride him as well and didnt look or feel big on him.
