I have measured my boy tonight and he is just under 14,2hh on his bum and just under 14.1hh on his withers, he was three in june. What i am worried about is him going over the height for his breed. His sire was (Faircross Sunrise) i bought the stallion video at your horse live but it does not give heights of the stallions. He looks very much like his dad and has his type of build, he seems to be maturing really well and his temprement is getting very good, after what was a difficult first year .
our frankie was 3 in May, really should get round to measuring him at some point lol

Height of my three year old ?

I,m not too worried about his height i am twelve stone by new years eve but hang around the eleven so it,s good to know i wont look silly on him, when he is broke to ride. We have got lots done with him this year he was a nervous baby and was more than i could handle at times, but he now lets you touch him anywhere and i can spray him all over with fly spray he has had tack on and a light weight rider sat on him and he stood like a rock. He lets me pick his feet up but is frightened of the farrier so got that to work on now.
ye we arnt bothered about his size at a guess he must be 13.3/14. my daughter is only 5ft2 and nothing of her really lol. as long as she can do what she wants on him all is good
how long have you had yours? we got frankie at 11mths. never had a headcollar on, never been groomed, never had his feet picked up. but he came round very fast
as my 3 1/2 year old has just gone to 13.3hh measured him a couple of days ago and all year he has only grown this 1 inch in height
but my 2 year old is a different story as he is only just 2 and is measuring 14hh already so i am sure he will go over height
does anyone know how much they usually grow from 2 onwards ?
my 3 1/2 year old grow a full hand from 2-3 years but only 1 inch so far from 3 upwards

I have had amigo since december 06 so he was around 5 to 6 months old. He as steadily grown since i have had him no major growth spurts, he as just crept up slowly. I just noticed recently that he had gone bum high so thought i would measure him, he does not seem as big as the measure tells me he is "very deceptive"

As with everything about foresters - their growth patterns are irregular. Some will make most of their growth by 2 years old - I have seen ponies that were in the large class at 2 end up in the small class as adults. Our mare hurtled ahead at one point but then slowed right down and has matured at 13'3. Our boy got fat and seemed to be 13hh but when we got the weight off he was 12'3 at 7 years which was only one inch more than when we got him as a 3 year old. There is a very good chance that your pony will stop at 14'2 or just before. As they go from 3 to 7 they tend to thicken up on the bone rather than just shoot up. This is what you want because they then build the muscle on good bone density which is why they are such good weight carriers. Incidentally the relevant measure is the one from floor to withers. Don't worry to much if he is a bit bum high at the moment, he may well be one of the old fashioned foresters with low withers. It really doesn't stop them from being great all rounders hacking, jumping, dressage, whatever! If you are only going to do general low level sports competing it really doesn't matter if he overgrows. Its only a problem if you want to do serious mountain and moorland, breed society competitions or breed from your horse. If they overgrow they get moved to the Y register which means any progeny will be registered as part bred, (Correct me if I'm wrong, someone!)

Height of my three year old ?

Amigo was bought as a pet and will only be hacking out with me, so height is not really an issue i am just surprised how big he as grown he was one of the smaller colts that was there and he chose me by pushing his was to the front of all the foals there as if to say this human is mine so back off. He as been well fed ,wormed well so i suppose all the worry as paid off.

my boy is just is 14.1 at 3 was fed a bit when a foal but farrier told us to stop as feet were growing funny so hes lived off graass ever since. not showing him so dont care if he goes over height
My two year old forester is also by Faircross Sunrise and he currently stands at 14hh withers 14.1hh croup and he's only 2 1/2. He was a huge foal so I'm hoping he doesn't go over height but I'm not so sure. Sorry that's not much help but I was told his sire is known to throw some big foals, my ponies dam is only 13.2hh.
Oh well if my pony goes over height he will be my WHP and I'll just have to get another forester for reg M&M classes!

Amigo,s dam was also around the 13,2hh mark, it,s been a while since i have had a pony and his height was a mystery to me, then i measured him and was quite shocked. What is yours called ?
