Yes, you are correct. The production notes acknowledge that the movie comes from the first three books, but the filmmakers obviously took a lot of license.
One thing though, don't think that a movie can't be enjoyable just becasue it doesn't follow the book very closely. I think the movie was enjoyable and I didn't read the books. Perhaps think of the movie as a completely different story.
