Win/Lose

If you think that the mother refering to her as losing means life, then you are looking too deep into it. Her mother was an ignorant lady. I think she meant she lost by not beating the other boxer. Although I believe in real life the other boxer would have not only lost her belt but banned for life from boxing. As for the title itself I don't think it would have been awarded to Maggie because she did not WIN the fight. The belt probably goes up for grabs for the next two top contenders. If Maggie won the belt it would clearly have been in her room with her even though she could not clearly defend it.

I realize her situation forgoes the wining or losing the title BUT the movie was all about her boxing and if she won, the belt would have symbolilcally been in her room.

Just my opinion.
