Please everyone be so very careful when getting prescriptions for meds they can cause you dire problems in the future esp ones like Ativan and Zanax to name a few.
Anti-D's also come with many problems one needs to be aware of, future problems and side effects not to mention extreme hell to get off of.
Please due some due dilgence before heading down the pill path.
I was prescribed both Clonezepam and Ativan after d-day one and that was in July 02, now I have noticed that alot of my slow recovery and memory loss is due to the meds I was on.
Drugs like Ativan are meant to be used for short peroids of time only, otherwise they can cause extreme problems and are VERY hard to get off when you have been on them for too long like I have been.
Never quit these meds cold turkey as they can cause seizures and permanent damage.
Please take a look at this site and do a google on any pills that you might have been prescribed before going down that path too far.
I don't want to turn off anyone to getting help but I had to learn the hard way as doctors will keep feeding you pills as long as you keep asking for them.
www.benzo.org.uk its full of great info

Sincerly,
James

I agree. The meds should only be used when absolutely needed. While they work they all are addictive. Discuss with your doctor anytime he prescribes anything and ask the average time period that will require you to go off of them and ask the schedule for stopping the medicine before you start it. I take Lexapro and Elavil as needed. Elavil was prescribed for a sleep aid for other reasons I explained in another post, and the neurosurgeon recommended that if I had to take it as a sleep aid for more than 10 consecutive days to get my body adjusted that I should gradually reduce the dosage. Ask your doctor about the pros and cons about taking a medicine and going on and off of it. I do the same thing with Celebrex because my arthritis is not that bad yet.

Only take meds if you are at a point that you are failing to cope or do function normally. Meds effect people in different ways. What works for me might not work for you, etc..

If I doctor wants to prescribe an addictive medicine and says you have to take it every day for an undetermined amount of time, I would find another doctor. While you may to use the meds for 3 months, 6 months, etc, I would caution anyone who says you need to be on a medicine long term unless they can document an diagnosis a mental illness that requires long term treatment. A is a trauma, like a death. Odds are if you were mentally stable and sane before it happens you be able to get through it without taking meds the rest of your life.
