I have a suggestion for the Members' page.  I've noticed that often people reply to people's stories there, even tho the page was intended to be more of an introduction and reference tool so we readers know the background stories.

Would it be possible to set the software so that, aside from the moderators of course, only the person who "starts" the thread (posting his story), has access to that thread?  I.e., somehow set the software so that other members can't reply to the thread on the page?  I think it might make the site more streamlined and help people not miss postings.

I'll check, but I seem to recall that we have only two options: locked and unlocked. If we lock each new thread, then even the original poster can't change it or post updates. If the thread is unlocked, then people can respond. (Our POLICY forum is "read only" but that's because only the administrators can post there.)

As the founding administrators (Quinn, RW, Cory, GT and I) discussed forum policy at start-up, we thought it best to allow members to go back and update their own member posts as things change in their lives. I think we understood that it would allow the thing you're concerned about to happen.

So that's the "why and wherefore" of it. (I was initially in favor of locked threads, but the ability to go back and add to one's own story tipped me over in favor of not locking the members' stories.)

What does everyone think?

Chris, could we better clarify what we want on the description of the forum? The way it reads now is not very clear.

Having the statement, "If you would like to comment on a Member's story, please do so on our Discovery, Further, Divorce or Open forums" might work, or soemthing like that.
