So are we all doing really well, bad or is everybody waiting for someone else to post:>) LOL
I, myself am doing very well, thank you :>) :>) :>)
My parents just got here tonight for a short visit before returning to FL and even though I'm about as behind as I can be in Calc class, we played cards for several hours.
Know what? I decided that they are more important and won't be around nearly as long as these stupid classes I'm taking. Ugh oh, am I slacking or what?
I'm having a GREAT day, think I woke on the right side of the bed this morning. How is everyone else?

I have a visitor this week. We went skiing with my son. I fell while getting off the dang chair lift, and sprained (or slighly broke) my right thumb. I'm off work for a few days because of it. That's the good part.
It's snowing again.
My son leaves tomorrow for a weekend French camp, my visitor leaves Sunday. In the mean time, life is very good, aside from my thumb.

It's snowing and snowing and snowing and snowing.....ugh. I am rather sick of seeing white, and tired of being cold.
And then....and THEN, (sigh)....I just wrote an email to a prospective employer and, of course I spelled checked it, but I completely left a word out. Phooey. The hazards of email. It's hard to catch your own mistakes on screen. Maybe I ought to print out important emails and read them on paper before sending them. Maybe this potential employer is forgiving.... The funny thing is, this position is for a literacy facilitator/tutor. hahaha.
My speeddating event was postponed, and I couldn't make the new date, so... I have to wait for another one which will probably take a month or so.
And, I still miss my dad. I don't like having him gone. At all.
I'm still here and reading. We are still having winter too. I wish it was warm enough to spring clean. I'd even welcome mowing the grass if it meant we could get rid of this cold weather. Something about these dark cloudy days that just gets to me.
About the most exciting news I have right now is my new haircut. I've always had "big" hair. I went in last week, sat down and said "cut it off." And she did. I'm still not sure if that was a good thing or not. I think I look like a squirrel. My husband (being the smart man he is) say he likes it.

Have you thought of doing a scrapbook of your Dad with photos of him and your children? A friend of mine did that when her Dad passed away. She also included little quotes about her Dad on some of the pages. She made each of her children their own book and plans to give it to them when they are grown. Even though it was painful when she first started the project, she said it turned out to be great therapy.

Sorry to hear about the sprain. Hope your visitor is taking good care of you.
Well, about 3 years ago, all of us 8 kids wrote out our stories of our memories growing up. We had subjects like vacations, Christmas, going to church, going to school, band, football games, the YMCA, pets, favorite or not-so favorite dinners, Dad's memorable sayings, Mom's memorable sayings, favorite memories of each sibling, etc.
So, I do have all that. And I did make my parents a large memory/photo album of their marriage for their 50th wedding anniversary, including quotes, poetry, et cetera. So I have that. And I recently found a couple photos of just my dad and me. Right now sometimes looking at those things make me feel sadder. I'd like to have a few pieces of his clothing, actually. Maybe I'll ask my mom for that.

You crack me up! That made me laugh out loud.

I spent last summer writing about my childhood. Partially for therapy and partially so I could hand my children a copy one day. I'm still putting the finishing touches on it. It was painful as well, but it did make me feel a lot better once I had it all down in black and white. Sometimes taking things out a little bit at a time and looking at them is better than pulling it all out at once. At least it was with me. Just knowing my story is there, even though I haven't gone back to read it for quite some time now, brings me some comfort. I find that each time I do read it the pain is less, yet the comfort it brings me seems to grow a little more. I hope you find that to be the case with the memories of your Dad as well.
We just got back from the DC/northern Virginia area. NightMary had Lasik eye surgery yesterday. We had to stay over night in a motel since she had a follow up appointment this morning. She is a little sore since her procedures took a little longer than normal. The good news is that she now has 20/30 vision and expected to achieve 20/20 (maybe better) when the swelling goes down. She was as blind as a bat, now no more glasses. Of course she will be able to see mine and my son's facial expressions now so we are gonna have to cool it. There's always some sort of draw back to these things. LOL
Our poor dog, Rocky, has been moved around so much in the last 3 weeks. 12 days gone for the cruise, 3 days to visit Kat and T-man, 2 days for NM's surgery---------Rocky thinks we are now homeless-------you can see it in his eyes. LOL
RW
So glad you have some company and whoops about the sprain.
Jean
I'm sorry your missing your dad. I can't imagine what that will be like and don't want to. Hopefully in time you will just remember happy memories and forget the sad part. What a neat thing to do with your family, that makes me want to get something like that together with mine - family memories.
GT
I know, I'd even cut my neighbors grass rather than this cold weather. Too bad I don't have any now that I moved LOL..
MM
I about fell off my chair reading your "hire me, not bother me" too. You's a funny gal!
H2C
I had lasik a few years back and still have 20/15 vision in both, which is unusual for a women. I love it!
It was nice to hear from all of you, I miss you all when you aren't posting. You feel like my family :>) Is that pitiful?
PS Where the heck is Chris? Chasing women I suppose. Where the heck is Q? ha ha ha
I'm sitting here hibernating, waiting for the freakin' winter to go away. I enjoy it at the beginning, but by this time of year, I'm just waiting for mud season to come around....
Some news: We're going to Las Vegas in July! Made our reservations the other day. Part of the trip will be a "work", as I'll be doing some self defense sessions at the American Council of the Blind convention.
Also got a call last night. Looks like I'll be visiting Salt Lake City in May for more self defense stuff. Never been there, so I'm excited about the trip. Curious: I know Mormons don't drink, but do the hotels have "real" bars for those of us who like and occasional Cap'n & Coke?

Been working my proverbial butt off...major project I'm working on hits some critical milestones next week and when I haven't been working, I've been home brain-dead to the world from all the stress.
Only problem is that its meant less time for me, again, and I gotta get back on track with my healthy eating, exercising etc.
Ran a bit this morning and got some much needed sleep...just gotta keep it up I guess...
Like everyone else, I am waiting for this winter to go away. I tired being sick and the kids being sick.
Question re Lasik, could someone describe the experience. I have thought about it for a long while now but too chicken to actually go thru with it. I can certainly benefit from not having to wear glasses or contacts.
The actual procedure takes about 30 seconds per eye. You will spend a few hours talking about the treatment and gathering information and then testing to see if you are a candidate. About 8% of the population can't get it done. There is no real pain other than some minor swelling for a couple of days. Some blurriness for a few days. Some night hailows for a few days but as the swelling goes down your vision will get better and better. My wife had really bad eye sight, couldn't find her way from one room to another without her glasses. My wife wore glasses for over 50 years and then layed down on the table as I watched and a few minutes later no more glasses and she could see well enough to get around instantly. The next day she tested 20/30 and is expected to achieve at least 20/20 but most people achieve 20/15. There is a regement of eye drops that need to be followed to the letter because it is mostly to prevent infection. It's so easy it makes you wonder why it costs so much. Not that the cost is too much but women spend much more time getting their nails done than to get 20/20 vision.
Thanks for the info. I wore glasses for 33 years and I can't see anything clearly that's more than 2 feet from me. Over the years, I just got use to the blur vision and the dry eyes from the contacts. I know I am a fairly good candidate for the procedure but just took chicken to go for the consultation. A friend of mine describe that he smell burning flesh... that about did it for me. Besides, it is expensive to do this here, maybe my birthday present next year.
Mine was only 1/2 price at the time I got it done and it is a leading guy in the area. It was only $800 per eye, I think, and WELL worth it. Yes, you do smell a tiny bit of burning skin but that didn't bother me. I didn't use any sedative or anything and the only thing that was a bit irritating was the suction cup they put on your cornea so they can work. I had two friends get it the same week/day with me. He had 20/15, 20/20 and she had 20/20, 20/30, mine were 20/15 in both. They will tell you that women aren't always quite as correctible as men because of hormonal issues but will be pretty good. The doctor was shocked to see mine so good.
I would do it again very easily. It was well worth it, esp. seeing the clock in the morning and not having my contacts dry out anymore or problems with allergies.
At my follow-up appt, day after my surgery, my vision was 20/30. That was a week ago today, but my vision is still blurry and I do the eyedrops every hour. Do you remember how long it took for your vision to become crisp and clear? Just a little concerned. I need to be able to see H2C and my sons expressions here pretty soon, because they like to gang up on me sometimes. It sure would have been nice to have a female around once in a while. Even "Rocky" the dog is male. But I love it. It's interesting to see how many people have had this surgery done. I think it is a miracle and I never thought I would see this in my lifetime.
Mine took a good 4-5 days to see completely clear although the day after I saw well enough without glasses. One of my friends who got it done along with me took about 1 month to see clearly though. I think the doctor told me to expect that for up to 2 weeks or so.
It seems that Spring has sprung (at least this week anyway) where I live. So I went out today to survey the land and see what survived the winter and what didn't.
I have a small goldfish pond. It never ceases to amaze me that the fish survive the winter and the freezing water. My Iris' are about 5 inches tall and looking really healthy. The Clematis (sp) I planted last year is "leafing" out and already starting to climb.
The honeysuckle ( you can't kill that stuff) is already growing like crazy. I'm thinking I'll plant another Dogwood tree this year because the one last year didn't make it. ( BTW, never plant a small tree where a miniature horse can reach it, they'll eat it)
What is the weather doing where everyone else is? Is it Spring yet?
For a minute there I had a 70's flashback (long, long ago in a land far, far away, there was a jazz-rock fusion band I liked called Weather Report).
The weather here is great. The buds are breaking. There's something flowering out back. I don't know what it is.
Where I live, dogwoods grow like weeds but strangely they're very hard to get established in a yard. People tell me that the best way to get a healthy dogwood is to transplant a wild one. The store bought ones usually die - that's been my experience, anyway. I don't know why. I think it might have something to do with a difference between eastern and western dogwoods. The cultivated ones probably are from the east coast originally. A good nursery person would probably know.
State tree of North Carolina..... the wild ones are white.... the cultivar red... and we are loosing them... both kind to a tree bug/fungus, something bad.....
They are a "woodsedge" variety. They need some protection and filtered sunlight as happens at the edge of a woods. They are also a more "northern" tree. They do really well north of the Mason-Dixon line and higher up (as along the Appalachian/Blue Ridge/Smoky Mountains).
That's why they die when planted out in the middle of a yard in the Hot South. God gave you magnolias for that purpose. Use 'em.
It's still "icky mud season" in the lower midwest. At a meeting with my son today, some people from West Lafayette (home of Purdue University) just an hour north of Indianapolis said the snow cover there just melted this week. Shoot, we haven't even HAD snow cover since January.
All in all, not a bad winter, but spring here is still a month off.
It has been hovering around freezing however. I still have about 6 feet of snow in my front and back yard. Definitely no tulips blooming here lol....don't expect there will be till at least April/May.
They are calling for more snow tonight....UGH and some next weekend as well. I guess we haven't got enough yet
We've had a tree in partial bloom in the middle of Feb. and a Carolina jasmin vine by the front door has been blooming since Dec......and waiting for another cold front to come thru with hi winds and very low temps... WTF????
Anyway sounds like I am back among the human race...... my, my, my, these last few days were ugly....I cannot remember being side lined for over 4 days like this....now where did my energy go????
I can empathize all too well, I've been nailed TWICE in a few weeks. Like winter, this damn cold just doesn't want to let go...
We still have quite a bit of snow on the ground, and they're calling for another 4 - 6 inches tonight. Started already... Temps will be in the high teens for at least the next week.
NE Ohio is just white, white, white. Apparently we have or will in the next inch or so break all records for winter snow fall.
I'm trying to think of other things instead of the weather so that I can be "pleasantly surprised" when spring is actually sprung. ha ha... At least that's what I'm trying to tell myself.
Maybe I'll just do one last burst of home cleaning...scrubbing walls or something...it works the chill off, anyways....
RW, the real ticket is to have your own juicer and slam 4 (biggish carrots, one beet, one apple and a chunk of ginger in it and then clean the juicer and drink the juice. Kept me healthy all year last year. This year I slacked off and caught the crud. Back on the juice regime now and feeling better than ever.

I just saw your post asking what happened. I'm sorry.
I was finally diagnosed with a herniated disc. They are hoping with therapy to "slip" the disc back into place, if that doesn't work then surgery.
In the mean time my boss is being a prick and since he "can" is making me work 4hrs a day doing whatever he can get out of me with all the restrictions I have. After 2 hrs I look like the Mummy dragging my left leg behind me.
All the meds do(vicoden etc) is make me even more dopier than usual. They do nothing for the pain. I'm getting pissed and frustrated as hell. Sorry to be such a downer.
thanks for asking. Not doing too good actually(Kat's been getting a daily update). My MRI results came back. My disc at L5_S1 is herniated and is contacting the nerve root which is sending the shocks down my legs and out my toes. In the meantime I'm trying to go to work through this. The only meds that help at all just make you not give a shit. Kinda like "this hurts but I don't care".
Now workers comp is trying to say it was a "pre-existing condition" because the MRI stated I have a mild degenerative disc disease(show me anyone at 40 who doesn't). Its about time to contact an attorney.
