What do you look like?

We did this once before on another forum and it was quite fun.

Does anyone else read posts and automatically conjure up what you think the person writing it looks like? I have this picture in my head of what I think everyone on here looks like as far as hair color and such. And I see that face everytime I read their words. (BTW, you are all beautiful.  )

I thought it might be fun to describe ourselves and see how close we actually come with our mental pictures of each other.

I'll start. I am 5' 6" tall. I have long flowing black hair and hazel eyes. My skin is olive colored. I have an hour glass figure, with a full round bosom. Oh wait.....that's Salma Hayek, my husband's dream girl.  LOL

Actually I am exactly 5' tall. I have shoulder length light to medium brown hair. (depending on what color I buy every three months) My hair is curly. My eyes are brown. And I sound much bigger than I actually am. I've been told by people (I've actually talked to on this forum) that I have somewhat of a southern "twang."

Anyone else care to share what you look like?

Description

April 1 2005, 10:58 AM

I'm 5' 10", about 190 pounds, medium build, middle age spread going on... Before I lost 20 pounds, I had the Dunlop disease, where my belly dun lopped over my belt. LOL

I wear different pairs of glasses depending on what I'm doing. Regular glasses for what I'm doing now, REALLY funky prescription glasses with orange lenses for outdoor use, Rec Specs for physical activity, and $12,000 protoype prism glasses for when I go to the store, shopping, etc.

I have NO hair (except facial hair), dark brown, almost black, eyes and mustache/goatee, which is showing signs of turning grey.

Even after surgery, my nose is still bent, but not as bad as before.

For the wrestling fans, I've been told I look like "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. I've also been described as looking like a, "pyschotic Mr. Clean".

Good idea!

April 1 2005, 11:21 AM

Yes, I get a mental picture of what people look like - when I know if they're male of female, which I sometimes don't, like Canuck, I just thought was male until we went onto chat the other night.
GT - I imagined you as tall and blonde, very attractive, very stylish, probably glamourous, and with a lovely slim figure.
Me: I'm 5 foot 7, 11 stone (can't do the sums in pounds, but it equals fat) short hair which would be grey but its now brown with some blonde bits in it! I have brown eyes which have faded to kind of hazel/green as I've got older which is strange, when I was a kid, everyone remarked on the big brown eyes. My Mum had big brown eyes but now she's 87 they've gone blue. Odd, huh? I've got olive skin which goes REALLY brown in the sun, and I know it makes you even more wrinkly but I just love being brown. I have a friend who's half Western Samoan and I just love it when I've been on holiday and I come back browner than him. I don't wear makeup, well, only for weddings and Christmas parties etc.
I thought it was great that Red Wolf put a picture of her eyes on here. I'd like everyone to put a photo of themselves on here, but I understand we probably won't!!
Edit to add: I've got REALLY saggy boobs, and they're just covered in stretch marks, and this may sound like an excuse but its the truth, its because of when my baby died, as she was full term, I filled with milk, and they gave me tablets to take it away, but they didn't work and before that I had quite small boobs, and at this time they were so full up (it hurt like hell) that they rested on my knees when I sat. I've tried everything, but the doctor says that when the skin has been stretched that much, there's nothing you can do, except surgery, which I can't afford and wouldn't do anyway.
and how do you make him wink?
Another edit - I'm 48 in September

ok, I'll try LOL

I am 5'1 IF I stretch real good ... I have been told I have olive skin (well, that's my Italian heritage, I suppose), with hazel eyes under glasses. My hair is more salt than pepper and I can't wait the day I turn completly silver .... no hair dye for me - thank you very much lol I like to wear my hair in a buzz cut... however lately it is somewhat longer...I am somewhat pear shape... and this IS my Italian heritage kicking in... lol....

I need to hit exercise in earnest ... to tone a little of everything which is shifting... Ah, the pleasure of getting old....er....

And if Cory wants to post the pic we took last year in NO he is welcome to it....

BTW.... I do have an accent... which gets thicker the more excited, mad I get... or so I have been told ROF

6'2", 180 lbs. Old, hairy, white Steve Urkel. Grey eyes. Brown hair. Whitish-reddish--brown beard. Glasses. Skinny but with Dunlop belly. I enjoy reading, candlelight suppers, long walks on the beach, and stalking minor celebreties from 1980's sitcoms. Favorite sitcoms - Steptoe and Son, Barney Miller.

Before you get here - here's my imagination picture of you! Tallish, maybe 6 foot. Fit, athletic build. Short dark hair, blue eyes. Nice smile. No beard or moustache and need to shave often cos of 5 oclock shadow. Good strong legs, quite hairy. A good crop of chest hair but not all over, just on your, well, breasts!!! If you know what I mean!!!
And I bet you're a bit like me - can be really deep and thoughtful and have really long, involved conversations, but on the other hand, can be really shallow and jokey.
Am I anywhere close??
Edited to add: tall, dark and handsome, after a teeny clue from Kats!!!
Edited again to say, about the deep/shallow bit - like the thing I just did about The Pope. See? Joking one minute, serious the next.

Re: What do you look like?

<<GT - I imagined you as tall and blonde>>

I must "write" taller than I am because several people have said they imagined me being tall. As for the blonde part I've been told that too. I'm not sure I want to know why people (based on what I write) think I'm blonde.  LOL

Glamorous? Hmmm....I have 3 kids, 5 dogs, 2 horses, and 2 birds. Not a lot of time for glamour. But it's nice to know someone imagines me that way.

Steve Urkel was an 80's (?) sitcom character. He played a nerdy teen with a very nasal sounding voice. But, when out of character (IMO) he was/is quite a handsome man.

Kat wrote>>>... hell it scares me to death when I think about the numbers>>

So don't think about the numbers.

She just said about her hair sticking up on a different doobrie, so here's my guesstimate on her!
She's young, under 30. She has short black hair, fair skin, blue eyes and a great figure - meaning she's about five foot eight, and about 9 stone (in our money). She looks after herself, so she's fit, and I bet she eats really healthy stuff (like I do ... NOT!) and with heaps of energy, busy all the time.

Ballad of Jed Clampet
(Lester Flatt and Early Scruggs, bluegrass legends)

Opening Theme:

Come and listen to a story about a man named Jed
A poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed,
Then one day he was shootin at some food,
And up through the ground came a bubblin crude.

Oil that is, black gold, Texas tea.

Well the first thing you know ol Jed's a millionaire,
Kinfolk said "Jed move away from there"
Said "Californy is the place you ought to be"
So they loaded up the truck and moved to Beverly.

Hills, that is. Swimmin pools, movie stars.

Closing Theme:

Well now its time to say goodbye to Jed and all his kin.
And they would like to thank you folks fer kindly droppin in.
You're all invited back a gain to this locality
To have a heapin helpin of their hospitality

Hillybilly that is. Set a spell, Take your shoes off.

Y'all come back now, y'hear?.

Unauthorized grammar school version:

Well the first thing you know ol Jed's a millionaire,
Second thing you know Jed's in his underwear,
Third thing you know Jed's rolling in the hay,
Fourth thing you know Jed's boffing Ellie May.

(doggie style, that is, take yer shoes off, set a spell ... etc)

I knew you'd know it!!! Now I remember. As for the alternative version, do you know the alternative 'Teddy Bears' Picnic?'
Can't remember the decent version, but alternative is:

If you go down to the woods today
You're in for a big surprise
Cos all the bears that you see there
Are gonna be circumcised
Yes every bear that ever there was
Is gathered there for certain because
Todays the day the teddy bears get their pricks nicked.

So just you go beat that Mr Quinn!!!

What do you look like?

April 1 2005, 5:17 PM

Well, a year ago, I was 278 lbs, 5'7", with naturally curly whatever color hair I felt like having that month (I started going gray at 15), a retrousse' nose (that's cute, but tiny), hazel brown eyes, with wire frame glasses. Today I am still 5'7" with normally dark brown/reddish brown naturally curly, past my shoulders hair, same nose, eyes and glasses, but after being on Weight Watchers' since June 28, 2004, and exercising like a veritable fiend, I weigh 168, wear a size 8 or 10 and despite having somewhat saggy breasts--comes from nursing daughters for three years total and losing weight--and a saggy tummy (again that losing weight thing)--oh, yeah, and being 49. According to my H (who has never had a weight problem in his lithe and trim life [the bum! LOL]), I am back to being a pretty hot number! (I hope he means how I look and isn't referring to the hot flashes I've been having lately!)

Seriously, getting things back on topic here with Fairyfriend singing us all the Fred Flintstone ballad....

I'm not really a wolf.

I'm 5'4" and always feel a bit short for my age....which is only 47. I have very dark brown hair cut just above shoulder length, and hazel eyes. I guess I have an olive complextion but not Kalamata olives. I wear about a size 8 generally although my shoes are 7 1/2. I like small petite earrings and quiet clothes as opposed to bright prints. In spite of working out and eating well, I'm aging. For sure.

Okay, I'm 5'3" and about 112 lbs (I've gained weight since my great loss after ex's A), I have all different colors in my hair naturally brown/red/blonde but it is mostly a brownish and I get blonde highlights. It is short and sort of sticks up in the back. I always had very dark brown eyes but now they are more green and brown both and are different in the daylight or darkness. I have always had freckles but you can't notice them as much now that I'm older. I work out quite a bit so am probably fairly muscular yet not butch - ha. Under Orders

April 1 2005, 7:15 PM

I don't visit the Open forum much, but Sandy ordered me...

Sandy,

> I'm 48 in September

I wouldn't have dreamed it... I figured you were in your 20's. You seem very young at heart. Certainly younger than me. I've been an old fart since I was a teenager.

> Anthony is: 30 something. Fair hair. Blue eyes,
> slightly freckly skin. Five foot eleven. Slim build.
> Intelligent. No beard. Am I close?

Not quite...

I'm six feet tall, turned 41 in November, most of my black hair has fallen out or turned grey, my eyes are brown with a bit of green, and I haven't been slim in years. I'm usually about 210 pounds, with a nice big belly to keep the top of my pants covered. I've only had a beard once in my life, and that only lasted a few months (a few years ago). A few people have told me I look like the actor John Ritter, but I've never seen the resemblence myself.

The whole intelligence thing is questionable too... Here's a pic from this last Christmas.

Cory,

> I've also been described as looking like a,
> "pyschotic Mr. Clean".

Funny, I thought "Mr Clean" the first time I saw your photo too...

Quinn

> 6'2", 180 lbs. Old, hairy, white Steve Urkel. Grey eyes.
> Brown hair. Whitish-reddish--brown beard. Glasses.
> Skinny but with Dunlop belly.

Seriously? I wouldn't have guessed.

All these years, I've had you pictured about 5'8", 40-50 years old, no beard, kind of thin dark hair like myself. Funny how we assign an image to "text only" acquaintances! The strange thing is I'll probably still picture you that way...

RW,

> only 47.

Again, I had you pictured much younger. Mid 30's. I've seen your photo, so I think I have an idea what you look like...

Re: What do you look like?

April 1 2005, 7:15 PM

Okay, I'll play.

I'm 5'11" but weigh a little less than 150lbs, about the same all my adult life. "Lean" would be the polite description.

My hair, which once was red and brown (as opposed to auburn, I had some red and some brown) is now salt and pepper. Mostly salt, and very coarse so I keep it relatively short but not buzzed.

My face is very angular, with high cheekbones and a high forehead, and I have brown eyes and wear glasses. My goattee is catching up to my hair in color. I had to laugh at Sandy's description of body hair. I have plenty...but thankfully, none on my back.

Being of Anglo-German descent I am fair-skinned and freckled.

A friend described my look as "professorial", but then, I was wearing charcoal wool slacks and a tweed blazer at the time. (And thought to myself, geez, I don't need the WHOLE stereotype, do I? I already write and sound professorial!)

Chris.

ps. Thanks, GT and Kat and Charlie.

pps. If anyone remembers the movie "LA Confidential", Guy Pearce was in it. In character, he looked amazingly like me; at the time I was clean-shaven. A friend told me I HAD to go see the movie without telling me why. When Pearce came on screen the first time, I knew. It was spooky.

For some reason years ago I used to read Quinn's posts and imagine his voice sounded like Hoyt Axton's. He was the narrator on the movie Charlotte's Web. Even though I have no clue what Quinn's voice actually sounds like, I still get this image of Hoyt Axton every time I read one of his posts.

Sandy wrote>>>Does your husband use these boards, and if so, which one is he? Or is that private?>>

No, that's not private.  My husband doesn't actively participate on the boards, but he does participate through me. For instance, he knows your story because when you came here I read it to him.  He knows most of the names on this board and the stories that go along with them. He does get a little confused at times because there are a lot of people to keep up with. But he keeps up with most of what goes on. And every once in awhile he will ask for an update on someone. Not long ago he told me that he had a dream about the people on this forum. LOL

And since I'm talking about him on the "what do you look like thread" I'll tell you what he looks like. He's 5' 10" and weighs 165 pounds. He has very thick dark brown hair, with no traces of gray. His beard is dark brown with reddish tones, and some splatters of gray through it. He wears glasses. He works out regularly and has a nice build without being over done. And he has a wonderful smile.

GT,

> I must say you look really happy in that photo.

That's because I'm opening the new automotive floor jack my wife got me for Christmas!

Actually, I didn't open it all. She didn't even wrap it. They loaded it in her car at the store, and when she got home she couldn't lift it out of the trunk. So, she had me carry it into the house for her. It was big, heavy, and I already knew what it was. So she didn't bother wrapping it.

I acted surprised anyway...

> this is the guy who posted the photos of the
> house he built.

Gee, I'm flattered that anyone even paid attention!

We've been in our new house almost 6 months now. Hard to believe, but we are loving it! Once it quits raining around here, we need to finish getting a lawn in. There's mud everywhere!

> I used to read Quinn's posts and imagine his voice
> sounded like Hoyt Axton's.

Hmm.. Never thought about Quinns (Barts) voice.

The first actor that comes to mind is Bob Hoskins (starred in Roger Rabbit, among other things).

I also imagine Quinn looking like Nathan Lane (voice of Timone on Lion King). I wonder if Quinns voice sounds anything like Nathan's?

Then again, I can picture Quinn as Mark Twain or Albert Einstein too...

I don't know WHO Quinn is describing!

> the narrator on the movie Charlotte's Web.

Hmm.. I can picture that too. I think it's because Quinn always seems so wise and knowledgeable. A wise person needs a wise voice like that...

RedWolf,

> Are you generally that happy?

I feel like I'm usually happy, but my wife say's I'm depressed all the time. So, I'm not sure. I can hide a lot of sadness behind a smile...

I'm fat and old but that's OK., 'cause I have a heart of gold.

I think everyone here has a heart of gold.

Seriously though, I'm 5'4", caramel colored hair( or is that camel colored) fairly long, and blue-green eyes. I'm 51 years old. The guy who checked my ID at the airport yesterday told me I looked like I was 37. WEE HAAA baby what are you doin tonite? LOL

The reason I don't look my age is due to fat. I'd rather be slim and have a few wrinkles. I'm built like Dolly Parton and I don't like it, but I chicken out when it comes to surgery. I couldn't imagine making money off looks. Ick.

H2C,

Those Fruit of the Looms may have become too ripe. Or maybe they need to return to the Loom for a little repair.

However, I know some youngsters feel that they've 'got it going on' when the pants ride low and the boxers show. Perhaps that's the 'look' you're after.

If so, you definitely have it going on.

What a great looking group we have on these boards!! I also had a mental picture of what many of you look like...and in some cases I was close...in others I was waaaayyyy off!

I'm almost 35 years old (birthday this week - ugh!), am about 5'4, I don't know how much I weigh...but I am very petite (a size 1 usually). I work out alot and actually teach aerobics - not the funky dance stuff...more like interval classes with high intensity cardio, plyometrics and weights (a far more 'athletic' workout). I have dark shoulder length hair (which changes colour every 6 weeks - I'm prematurely grey) and brown eyes. I would post a picture (if I knew how)....but I don't think I have anything even remotely recent!

Sandy,

On a previous forum I think we had a thread that grew to 300. Or was it 3000? It started taking a long time to load. Then...

It shut the whole internet down.

Puters crashed. It took a while for life to get back to normal again.

Don't you dare post that 'goth vampire' picture I sent you of me taken last Halloween - I doubt the black lipstick looks that good!! I am working on getting my main puter back up and then will post a much more 'normal' shot!
Will email you soon

web browser?

>>maybe because i am using linux setup???<<

I've never seen the OS mentioned as a potential problem for Network54 but that could be. The support people make it pretty clear that some features of the message boards are available only on Internet Explorer (maybe v 5 or higher). Which web browser are you running?

Y'all look beautiful. Actually, Chris's photo was quite like what I imagined, altho I didn't imagine the gray.

I've tried for 1/2 hour to put my photo up, but I am unable to "upload" it from my PC. Anyone know why that may be?

Jean

P.S. Okay...I've got my tiny photo by my name, but I can't seem to use the "insert object" command correctly to get it in the body of the message. this is a bit frustrating.

You're right, you did compliment me on chat the other night - thank you. Sorry for disgregarding that, like I said I'm not very good at taking compliments, and also like I said, its the only picture of me I have on the computer and it does cover up all the flabby saggy bits!!
Quinn, of course, has risen above such trivialities and doesn't even comment on my jokes now. Think he's gone stately on me....
And what about Jackson -aint he the best!!!???

musing ....

April 7 2005, 11:36 AM

Going over this post got me to notice - and this is a generality - we find a way to criticise ourselves...

Very early in life I had to deal with being vertically challenged LOL alright short. I was always the first child in a line... I learned that was the way it was going to be... short lol. But later on, when a tad older, I was told I was, in fact, taller than my mother she was about 4'11!!!!

I have a constant personal gripe about my legs, I don't like their look.... even more now that I have become toooo sedentary. This something I could do something about...however my height is not negotiable. LOL

My point is: we are all different - and we are all similar - and above all - WE ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL specimens of the human race....

And at the risk of sounding like a fortune cookie:

"Our first and last love is self-love"

And as you walk you make your path Kat

Most or some people's computer takes soooooo long to load a thread of this length, especially when pictures are involved. You did not scare us away. LOL I mean, have you seen my pictures? Now that's scary.

Re: What do you look like?

April 7 2005, 11:58 AM

Kat - You're so right! Everyone is beautiful in their own unique way and it's sad that so many of us are too quick to downplay our beauty and highlight our 'shortcomings'.

Shortly after d-day (when I was going through a bit of self-doubt and blaming myself for H's affair) my best friend verbally slapped me in the face. I was comparing my 'physical' self to OW. My best friend said to me, 'You are beautiful (both inside and out)...do you know how many women who are maybe not-so physically attractive and whose figures had seen better days, would assume that you must have a wonderful life with a loving, faithful husband - JUST because of the way you look??' In other words - it's what's on the inside that counts AND that no physical or personality 'triat' is going to lead a spouse to wander AND many people (mistakenly) equate good looks with happiness.

I needed to hear those words then. I wonder...if we all 'loved' ourselves and felt confident about ourselves, would we have been as inclined to 'blame' ourselves (at least initially) for our spouse's affair?

Kat wrote>>>Very early in life I had to deal with being vertically challenged LOL alright short. I was always the first child in a line... I learned that was the way it was going to be... short>>>

I hear ya Kat. And I still deal with being short. While on a field trip with (6th graders) a few years back the principal grabbed the hood on the back of my jacket because he thought I was one of the kids cutting in line. LOL

I have a friend who is almost 6' tall. She slumps because she feels she is too tall. So yes, I think we seem to all find something to criticize about ourselves.

Kath

Don't think you scared anyone off. I think some folks just moved on to talking about music, books, and underwear.  LOL

Misha and Robert

April 7 2005, 12:04 PM

I keep trying to upload this so you all can see my handsome son, commonly known on these boards as Junior. He's not really a junior (thank GOD!) but he is the light of my life. He has such a sunny personality, even though he is going through the terrible twos and is displaying so much of the stubborness that endeared me (sarcastic) to his father. Actually, in Junior, I find it kind of sweet. Ask me again when he's 13 or so....

Oh, and doesn't his mom dress him funny? I can hardly wait 'til he brings home his first girlfriend. Have I shown you pictures of Robert when he was a baby? BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Self criticism.. That's one of the advantages of being a blindie. I look in the mirror and think, "DAMN, I'm a stud!!!"

Please, don't go ruining that on me... LOL

Well....

April 8 2005, 9:24 PM

...quite fascinating descriptions.

Unfortunately I have no pictures of myself. I hate how I turn out in pictures. I am so NOT photogenic so I avoid them like the plague actually. So I can't post any for you to see but here's my description.

I'm short -- 5 feet 2 inches.

I'm curvy -- quite the hourglass figure but on the plump side I'm afraid -- I'm carrying about 25 pounds more than I should be right now.

I'm a brown eyed girl -- large, expressive brown eyes. My eyes are the window to my soul for sure.

My lips are full and I have one dimple. I'm not the high cheekboned type. My heritage is Italian and I have that dark Italian look.

I look young for my age. At least that's what people tell me. I have a very clear complexion and almost no wrinkles. So I think that and my short stature helps me pass for much younger than my 40 years.

I've been wearing my hair short for years now. Right now its very short and choppy -- sort of a modern, messy, spiky look. I had it died vibrant red. My hair is naturally dark brown with some grey coming through. But I recently coloured it quite RED.

I wear glasses. I have since I was 10. Can't stand the thought of contacts. So I wear a really cool pair of black Versace frames.

Other than that I am very physically expressive -- people tell me I make alot of funny faces when I talk and I do the Italian talking with my hands thing. I smile alot. I am known for my very loud laugh - I don't hold back. I like to talk and engage people and make connections. I am quick witted and am pretty fast with the comebacks. My last boss described me as "disarming".

Too bad I can't post something but someday I might if I find a picture I like well enough.

Believe it or not, I rarely take good pictures either. I didn't even really like the one that I posted because I was squinting but, what the heck :>) We are probably all our worst critic.

Who flirted? I didn't see no flirting!! Plenty of fishing for compliments (and I got some too, but being me, not good at taking them). I can't tell you how to get a photo on here, I had to e mail mine to The Mighty Quinn to get it on (so to speak - or is that flirting??) but if you have a digital camera, I'm sure there's a way of pasting it somehow. Ask one of the clever lot!!
