Anybody who lives here has noticed a commercial that has been running for awhile. I'm not even sure what the commercial is trying to sell...used cars, a cell phone, etc.
There is the H sitting at a desk explaining that his W is a native Texan while he migrated here from up north a dozen yrs back or so. Anytime he got hurt his W would always say "Bless Your Heart."
H: I hit my thumb with a hammer.
W: Well Bless Your Heart.
H talking to the camera: It took a dozen yrs or so but what I finally realized what my W was saying was , " You dumb (BLEEP)."
We're onto to you now G.T.
Edited not for typos just to add I never wanna never those 3 words again .
Tex
Edited again: ok, one typo dammit. Bless my heart.

Hmm. Well, I'm southern, and I grew up hearing "bless your heart," but it was always used in a sympathetic context. When I use it, I am thinking something along the lines of "Oh, you poor dear!" If I am thinking "you dumbass," depending on to whom my thought is addressed, I might verbalize it, or I might keep that thought to myself, but a "bless your heart" I would verbalize with sincerity. Of course, I can't speak for what other people do!
Actually what most folks don't know is that Donny never stopped having a career. He's done several things since his teeny bobber days. Honestly he's a very talented man, musical wise, even if his style of music is not liked by everyone. He's also a very wealthy man. Considering that he did make most of his money at the peak of his career as a teeny bopper, it's even more impressive that he's made wise business decisions and held on to that money.
Maybe that's why many people dislike him... He's made all the right decisions, has the perfect teeth (LOTS of them), writes/records hit songs etc...
For me, give me the IMperfect guy, the guy who's made just about every mistake in the book, been fired, arrested, did so much drugs and alcohol that he literally changed the chemical balance in his system, SHOULD be dead with the amount of abuse he's put himself through, come through it all, LEARNED from it all, and STILL can be just as successful, if not MORE successful, than perfection. The imperfect guy who started his career BEFORE Donny, and unlike Donny, he's STILL a household name even in today's generation of kids.
Give me Ozzy over Donny anytime...
Riding the Crazy Train, and NOT drinking the Suicide Solution,
Cory
You are not a human being having a spiritual experience, but a spiritual being having a human experience.
My dear philosopher friend. You see, perfection is just an image we see. I'm sure Mr. Osmond has made his share of mistakes. Apparently he has suffered from severe anxiety to the point where he couldn't even go on stage, and had to be medicated. We all have burdens we carry, some are just more severe and pronounced than others. And how we deal with these burdens can determine our success as a human bean.
I'm inspired by many people here who have overcome so many burdens and obstacles, and who are still working there way through the muck. You are one of them, and jbean is sure inspiring me these days.
Helen Keller is my hero though, and she never even made a record.

Very well put MM. And I think you are right, perfection is an image we project on to people, and not necessarily the one they want people to have of them. I think Donny Osmond would be the first to admit (and has) that he's not perfect, yet has spent too much time trying to live up to the image that people have/had of him. To the point of having anxiety attacks as you mentioned.
We all have different views on who we respect and like. I respect Donny a great deal for not looking to drugs or alcohol as a way to deal with a failing music career or the stress of celebrity. But that's not to say that I don't still have a great amount of respect for some who did, and survived to tell about it. I hope he laughs out loud (at all those people who call him a has been) everytime he looks at his financial statement. We all know that money isn't what makes you a success though, and that's one of the things I respect about him also. He's been married to the same woman for over 25 years, which in the celebrity world is an accomplishment in and of itself.
Cory, do you remember the Super Bowl commercial a few years back with Donny and Marie and the Osbourne Kids? I read somewhere that Ozzy was not told beforehand that Donny and Marie would take the place of his kids. So the shock you see on his face was genuine. Cute commercial.

You just had to throw that comment about the shoes in there, didn't you? LOL
