Re: Pets?

I too just got a puppy. We got her April 1. I thought it would be nice to have a dog around now that my H is working third shift. I always have trouble sleeping well when I am alone at night. Thought the dog would help me feel a little safer and give me some company. She's a shepard/retriever mix and is about 4 months old. Soooo cute! Soooo much work! Told my H the next time I have some bright idea that is going to change our lives like this just shoot me. Actually, I love her to bits already but she's a handful to be sure. I forgot (it's been about 25 years since we last had a puppy) how much work they are.

A couple of days after she came home she got sick. She started throwing up all of the time. Couldn't keep any food down and she pretty much stopped eating. She even threw up water. My H got concerned that she would become dehydrated so he switched her to bottled water which she was able to keep down. When we took her to the vet he gave her an injection, some pills, and told us to take her off puppy food for awhile to see if she improves. He said we should feed her browned ground beef mixed with rice. O.K. So now we have a dog who drinks bottled water and I have to cook for her! Can we say "Primadonna?"

The good news is she is doing better, hasn't thrown up since we changed her diet and started her on the meds, and the vet said we can now start gradually introducing puppy food back into her diet. As a side note, since everything has been about her lately, there hasn't been a lot of time for me to dwell on any of my problems!

We also have a frog. It's about 17 years old if you can believe it. My son got it as a gift from his grandmother 17 years ago. It came in the mail as a tadpole in a styrofoam container, called a "Grow-a-frog." My son has since moved out, gotten married and a house of his own, but WE still have the frog. Says he's afraid moving it might be too stressful for it and it might die. Gotta say, though, taking care of the frog is a whole lot easier than taking care of the puppy but then I can't cuddle the frog--ick.

Barbara,

Do you mean you now have 2 new puppies? The Pit Bull and This one. You are going to be one busy lady taking care of children in your day care and having to clean up you know what all day. LOL Maybe this will help you with your unrest lately.

NM

I am so sorry, I am confused today. I got the two Barbara's mixed up. It must be that I retired last Friday and don't know where or who I am yet. Please
accept my apologies Barbarapat.

Angela, glad to hear your puppy is feeling better! Rex, spent his first nite with us last nite. My 9 yr. old son had his friend spend the nite. Picture 2 boys & a pit bull all stretched out on the couch!!I feel bad because my doxie is totally heartbroken. He won't cuddle with us at all. Hopefully he will be o.k. in a few days. You're right Angela, puppies do take your mind off the A mess! Rex already knows how to "sit" & "heel". He also seems to be potty trained!!

Barbara,

LOL you really do have a small Zoo.

I am down to just one dog...that we got shortly after D-day 3 1/2 years ago...the princess is spoiled rotten...because she is a Rotweiler...about 100 lbs

She loves the beach, greets everyone walking and loves other dogs...super friendly...big dog.

Barbara, I have a doxie too. She's a mini, long-haired. She is nearly human, as far as we can tell. If she only had thumbs, she would be totally self-sufficient! She is so much fun to come home to, she gets so excited. She loooooooooooves men and will go WITH them if they have play ball with her and have facial hair, isn't that odd? (She does NOT get that from watching me, thank you very much!) She's very territorial - until someone has been IN her house, she growls and does the "I'm a big, brave dog" thing... all 10.4 lbs. of her! Her pic is the one that I use, on here. She was about 5 weeks old then, in her Easter bonnet.

Hi Monica! Sam, our doxie, is a mini doxie & he thinks he's a big guy. I get a kick out of him! When he encounters strangers or strange dogs, he will often bark & growl & the hair will stand up on his neck & back. It's so funny. I was walking him & the pit bull puppy together today & thinking "what a combination"!

Barb - LOL! The big brave dog thing that Kizzy does - we call "Mohawked up" - the hair on her back and neck stand straight up. She must be pretty convincing, she chases away a German Shepard from a couple of houses down pretty regularly. When I take her on walks, I always promise to bring her home and show her in the MIRROR that she ought not pick fights with yellow labs, rottweilers, and the like. She's very big in heart and spirit!

Hi Monica! Kizzy sounds like Sam! Right now I am sad because Sam is ignoring me because of the new puppy. He won't cuddle with me or sleep with me. I hope he gets over it soon. Poor Sam!

Kizzy is most DEFINITELY an only dog! I dog-sat for my nephew's doxie last year and OMG, you would have thought we banished Kizzy to another continent. They really are stubborn dogs!!
