A quick hello from Zao

Actually we are sitting in an internet cafe in Yamagata.

We are staying at Zao Onsen. The town has about 300 people and my son and I are the only foreigners at present. The town is about 30 min. by bus up a windy mountain road. Zao sits on a mineral hot springs fed by a volcanic lake (Ozama).

The cascading, large stream runs under the town and has been tapped into so just about everywhere you go you can stop and dip your feet into a stone pool with steaming hot mineral water.

Every hotel has a mineral bath. The men and women are of course separtated. But I just wanted you to know H2C that I accidentally walked into the mens bath. REALLY it was an accident.

Today we hop the train to Yamadera where there is temple carved into a rock mountain and some haiku is carved into stone by the man who created it.

Anyway, I broke down and had the best hamburger Ive ever eaten.

Ive had enough sushi and noodles for now.

And last but not least, Ive learned a little Kanji. It is a beautiful way to communicate, huh Bart.

I hope yall enjoy the update、and healing will happen.

LOL MM.

I did that too after about two weeks. McDonalds for brunch and for dinner on my Sunday off. And I hid in my room reading English action-adventure novels.

After that I went back to eating regular food (Japanese) with chopsticks (hashi). The scariest part of the whole trip was the "going away" dinner the president of the company insisted on eating at a fancy French restaurant. I hadn't held a knife and fork for weeks, and this place had the big heavy silverplate! After eating for weeks with no implement heavier than the little soupspoons and balsa-wood sticks, I was terrified that I would drop something...it was a cultural revelation. Before returning to the US, I got a lesson in how the Japanese coworkers would feel every time they went out to eat with us over here.

Sounds like a wonderful trip...a real vacation.

Chris.

I also wanted McD's after being in Japan for a few weeks Even their pizza had goat cheese on it instead of mozarella.

Did you see anything interesting?

I remember somebody named Bart. Does he communicate in Kanji?

MM, sounds like you're having a wonderful time. No one deserves it more than you, young lady...

Hey, whatever happened to that Bardet-Biedl Bart anyways? And yes, Bardet-Biedl Syndrome does exist.... It's more rare than my eye disease!

Jean, I'll handle the cursing around here. LOL

Accident my ass! I know you too well, Emmersom. You just want to have the whole experience, see everything. It wouldn't surprise me if you bundled up in those big towels and "accidently" stumbled into the men's steam rooms for an hour or two. But I'm pretty sure the blond hair would give you away.

ETA: Received card and yes I practicing my Talyun,

Guido
