Q!!! What up, brother? How you been??

Personal update: The W and I are confirmed for a week in London, then spending 10 days touring around Scotland. With the amount of printouts she has on places to see in Scotland, I'm afraid we'll exceed the weight limit on the plane... LOL

Damn. I take one evening off and look what happens.

Good to hear from you, Q.

Chris.

ps. Note for clarification: forum members might see Q's old login "Quinn Boysenberry" listed as being online or posting from time to time. That login is the "forum owner" for Network 54's purposes, and a couple of the administrators use it to "check under the hood" now and again. So if you see that login, it might not be the real Q. ground pork

April 7 2007, 2:50 PM

Cory - Lee and MM and I were chatting about Scotland last night. Coincidence? I think not. You and your better half will have a great time. Hopefully global climate change will kick in while your are there and you'll get some sunny, warm weather.

Hey Kat. I'm glad you're doing ok. I'm doing ok too, thanks for asking. Playing a little tennis. However, I've gotten so fat I can't cover the court anymore. But if the ball comes near me, I'll give it a good whack.

Monica - The bad news is that I'm still losing carts at WalMart. The good news is that now I usually find them although sometimes it isn't for a day or two. Ground pork doesn't take too well to spending the night in the fishing department.

Hey Chris. I'm pretty sure Quinn Boysenberry isn't me.

phones

April 8 2007, 3:20 AM

Does anybody need a phone? I put these ridiculously low bids on about 5 phones on ebay tonight and now I'm getting worried that I might actually win. I don't really need a phone. I just felt like doing my bidding.

A couple of the phones come with an answering machine and four handsets. What am I going to do with 2 answering machines, 5 phones, and 11 handsets? It's safer shopping at WalMart.

And why does ebay send you an email to tell you that you've been outbid? Don't people usually know when they've been outbid? Do people really need an email? I think ebay is just trying to piss people off.

And what's up with Ebay giving people stars? I've recently earned my gold star. A bottle of single malt would have been better.

Q, the emails are a marketing bid, playing on your competitive nature. "Someone outbid ME??? We'll see about THAT!"

I have NO experience with E-Bay, other than checking out H2's online store. I've never bid, never set up an account, etc. However, seeing as how they're giving out gold stars now, I may have to re-think my position...

Seriously, our Foundation is looking into doing something the E-Bay. They have a seperate non-profit section where you can do online auctions and such.

You're A Rising Star At eBay!

Congratulations!

You're A Yellow Star!

Congratulations! You've achieved a feedback rating of 10 and that means you've earned a Yellow Star next to your eBay user name.

What does your Yellow Star stand for?

As a Buyer, your star tells Sellers you're serious in your bidding activity and that sellers can count on you to follow through on your transactions in a professional and timely manner. As a Seller, your star indicates you have a track record and makes Buyers feel more at ease in purchasing items from you.

There's a Yellow Star Certificate waiting for you. Download it and display it proudly.

NM just got a certificate in the mail congratulating her for being a "power seller" on Ebay. That certificate is now pasted to our refrigerator. (I thought refrigerator space was reserved for grandkid drawings.) A power seller has to generate and maintain a certain level of sales per month for several months. She is rapidly approaching 500 feedbacks from 500 different buyers (she gets a lot of repeat business from the same buyers) which will earn her a red star. And I thought she was already hard to live with her current turquoise star which she earned within her first 3 months. It's gonna be hell around here after she becomes a "red star power seller". Yes, its ok to feel sorry for me.

In case anyone is interested.

Now that's what *I'm* talkin about. Power sellers are awesome. I can't believe I know someone who is almost a red star. When she hits that milestone, you'll have to have a proper celebration.

Very cool store, by the way.

Cory >>brand new phones (base and 3 cordless phones) a couple months ago. I also have a really cool 3 channel answering machine that has talking caller ID on it<<

That's exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for, Cory. Where did you get it? What brand? Model? Is it 5.8 GBHz? (GBHz = gaboodle hurts). Does it interfere with WiFi? I need to know. Talking caller ID sounds like a killer feature.

Re: Seems like ...

April 9 2007, 12:53 AM

Hey Q

Cory may be able to answer this question better than I by actually using the phones but I'm going to give my input anyway b/c I'm taking a Data Networking and Telecommunications class and we just went over a chapter on wireless LANs (WLANs) and issues with them and different frequencies, etc.

I guess you know that wireless operates in both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz ranges. Most wireless now uses the standards for 802.11 b and g, which both use the 2.4 GHz bands and they use 3 nonoverlapping channels, 1, 6, and 11. 802.11a uses 5 GHz but is rarely used and a new one that will be 802.11n standard will be able to use both ranges at 2.4 and 5 GHz, although I don't believe it is currently in use. So for now, you can probably use that 5 GHz phone but if you upgrade standards for WiFi later on, my guess is that it may then interfere depending on the channels you use for each. There are also some massive improvements in separating two different signals using 802.11n so it may not be a problem after all. Just my pilthy 2 cents. LOL

Congratulations to NM for being a power seller! Let the woman have her glory.  My feedback is around 130.  But that's more buying than selling.  Those Donny items can get out of hand in a hurry.

Note to Quinn: Ebay can be addictive. Be vewwy vewwy careful or some day you might find yourself bidding on a wedding dress that's not even your size.

TLMM, if that works for you, let me know, I'm putting my gray hair on there. I would like to make money off of it, rather than spending money to pretend I don't HAVE any!!

Cory- I have to stick to the "Buy It Now" items, I HATE to be outbid and will lots of times, spend more money than I planned to win it so I'm NOT outbid!!

Chuck - GOOOD grief, would you please translate that, in English? Thanks, you're a peach.

MM

Slight t/j.

I was having some mild menopause symptoms so I started taking the dietary supplement Estro Complex.  Haven't had a hot flash in about 3 weeks. Nor a mood swing.  My husband has ordered a case of it.

I love Ebay.  And I'm a "Buy It Now"  person as well.  It's that type A personality I have.  I don't want to have to watch the items or get outbid.

My husband on the other hand will wait until he gets it for the price he wants. Even if it takes a year of bidding.

Re: Seems like ...

April 9 2007, 1:22 PM

Thanks GT-

Tell your H not to buy all of it. Actually there is a correlation between buying on ebay and hot flashes.

I was bidding on classic sports cars for a while, which is dangerous. I won the bid on one, but then ebay contacted me and told me I was outbid at the last micro-second. Then thay contacted me and said the bidder was a fraud, and did I want the car? NO!!!

Sometimes you can get a better deal just buying from a local private party. Same thing with dating- bid on a local boy! Geez there I go!!!

Being single after 25 yrs. of marriage has made me crazy.

Q, to clarify, the talking caller ID is on my 3 channel answering machine (Press 1 to leave a message for the family, 2 for the CHM Research Foundation, or 3 for the Blind Justice System of Self Defense).

I bought the answering with talking caller ID at Wally World. The phones I bought at Staples, 5 ghz.

It's too easy to get carried away with a local. It's too hard to sort out Ms. Right from Ms. Right Now when you can smell her perfume.

Distance, time, anticipation, separation...all those old-fashioned things are important to building a relationship gradually.

Yeah, I've been wondering what it would be like to date Ms. Right Now. NOT

There is some feeling of freedom dating someone who lives far away, You can be fairly certain they aren't going to sneak over to your hoose to see if someone else's car is parked in the driveway.

Unless of course they're nuts and have a supply of diapers!

MM, is this a common problem at yer house?

Well, then I suppose that it's a good thing that Mr. Best (that's what I'll call him from now on ) is away for 3 weeks in San Diego working. I need some separation, anticipation, etc, etc - yeah right! Can you hear me weeping?

It happened and I was wrong. I know you are supprised about that. NM hit her 500 power seller feedback mark and its a purple star not a red star. A red star comes at the 1000 mark. I just assumed that the red stars were dished out at 500. I've had my red star for a while now and I couldn't remember when I got it. They say the memory is the first to go. Thats not true. The memory, hearing, sight, sex, knees----------it all falls apart together. Any way NM is a
