My sister, who is 45 (whew) is having a baby boy either tonight or tomorrow morning (they're inducing). She has two girls (my babies) who are 16 and 17 and was caught quite by surprise with this one (they just sold their crib about a year ago and had given up on the idea if having another...
Anyway, I'm really excited about it and will be going out to WA state to visit them in a couple weeks.
My younger sister also found out she is due in August and she has two very young girls and her baby is also a boy. Pretty neat. I will be an Aunt 8 times over after this and there will be 5 boys and 5 girl grandkids for my parents. This evens it up - lol
LOL. My sister (who is 46) is already a grandmother. I'm a grandfather.
I kept the crib in the attic and garage for 16 years, recently cleaned it up, and my grandson spends the night in it occasionally. Maybe keeping the crib is an extra means of birth control?
Healthy baby boy Luke, born 5:13pm pacific time yesterday. Mom and baby are doing well. I'm am very relieved as my sister has a heart problem that was made worse by pregnancy.
Congratulations on the new baby in the family, Charlie. I really enjoy being auntie to my youngest sister's two and four year old (she also has a nineteen year old who became a daddy this past November - which makes my 38 year old sister a grandmother. YIKES). All the other nieces and nephews are grown and it's been nice to have little ones at family gatherings again.

Crib as birth control? I must have missed that lesson in sex ed. But maybe you're on to something, Chris. It seems like everyone I've ever known who got rid of one ended up pregnant. I think I'll keep my crib bolted to the floor until I'm safely on the other side of menopause.
So in order to get pregnant I need to buy a crib and then get rid of it. Interesting theory lol
Also interesting to see people in their 40's having healthy babies. Since I'm now 38 and had almost given up on having children, that somehow reassures me that I have a few more years left to make that decision.
Charlie I'm sure you make a great auntie to all those children I'm an aunt to two wonderful girls who are spoiled beyond belief. We formed a RockBand group at Christmas and I'm informed it has just never been the same since auntie left to come back home lol. I love the time I get to spend with them, even though they live about a 40 hour drive away now.
Kid, maybe you do need to get a crib and sell it - lol
Don't feel bad, me and all my single friends are beginning to think we'll be single forever too...that's okay though because it's better than being married to a dishonest person if you ask me!!
Chris, I sure hope you won't get preggers, but some man has recently - I saw in on the news and that is scary...
Kid, a former boss has a stepson the same age as my younger son...and her (first and only) daughter is just a few months older than my grandson. She just turned 40 last year.
So after comparing teenager notes, we now compare baby notes when we talk. It's so weird.
Well, she's always had a murmur but she was having a very rapid heartbeat (not just a little) during her pregnancy. She has a backwash due to one of the valves not working properly and they don't know the extent yet. During her pregnancy, they couldn't really diagnose it completely but will be checking further now.
They will likely check it with what I do, TTE (transthoracic echocardiograpy) - external imaging. Or they will do a TEE (transesophageal echocardiography) where they image with a small probe from the esophagus.
No fun having an overly leaky valve. Most people have some degree of it, but when it gets severe, they sometimes repair or replace. Most common are mitral and aorta.
I'm taking care of my grandson overnight...first time. I hope everything comes back to me, and I hope the little guy isn't too anxious being away from both mommy and daddy. Can't wait to take him to the park tomorrow.
I'm sure everything will come back to you. I don't think the fundamentals have changed too much since our kids were babies. If you have bottles, diapers, wipes, and plenty of patience and love, everything should be fine. And don't forget "Goodnight Moon." That's always a great way to end the day and ease a little one into sleep.
RW and DG...don't laugh. I read it, and it worked, even without my favorite "rock the boy to sleep" rocking chair (which needs some work after almost 20 years in basement & garage).
My house is a quiet and calm place, and he seems very happy when he is here. But I suppose it could be that he just likes the dog.
We had a good evening, and a very good day. He loved the swing and riding down the slide with his uncle (my younger son).
Sounds like the perfect day! It must be fairly warm there? I thought spring had come, but we got a dusting of snow last night. Fooled me! Regardless, it is a good month ahead of Northern Ontario. I'm going home for Easter - they still have 4 feet of snow.
