I need to first explain our policy on deleting old posts.
We prefer that people not remove any posts, because it renders threads unintelligible, and it is an insult to those who have responded to a post.
However, that said, we recognize there are circumstances where people need to remove posts. One case is a combative divorce where the posts are going to be used against our member. I honestly don't know how effectively anyone can protect themselves against such a threat because Network54 could be subpoenaed to supply even the deleted posts, plus anyone with any sense and was seriously planning this would download the posts before letting you know that they planned to use them against you.
Another reason we've allows removing posts is to allow members to remove their history from the public site, simply for personal reasons. We don't like that people want to do this, because our present members can find a great benefit in your history.
There have been other cases when individuals have removed their posts because they felt threatened by other members of the forum, and sometimes simply because they didn't like having people disagree with them. We don't approve of this reason for removing, but so far we haven't enforced a policy. We may decide to enforce this in the future, or modify our policies to discourage this practice.
So, if you decide that you need to remove your posts, then you need to find each one, then edit it to remove the content, then save the modified copy. You have to do this to each post individually.
Carol, if you could please send an email to me explaining why you feel threatened. I don't know that I can help in anyway, but if nothing else it would help me and the other moderators feel more comfortable with your decision to remove the posts.
