Each year Wayne DeMoranville heads up the Ice carving Demonstration. This year it was held at the Chamber of Commerce building which also houses a nice local areas Art exhibit. Waynes helpers this year was Tim Klock and first time Ice carver Jerry France (Grampa Elf) About a dozen carvers came downtown to try this fun Artform.
There were 20 300# blocks of ice set out for any of the carvers to come and try a new media. At the end of the day there was a Candle light prayer vigil which Father Todd presided over using prayers from 8 different denominations. Also a number of hymn's were sung.
The pictures I have came the following morning after around a 10" snowstorm. They aren't the best, my apologies, but they can still give you a flavor of the demonstration. Maybe someone will add some of their pic's from the nights ceremony.
Here are a few quick shots of down town Ridgway, a quaint little community of about 4,600 residents.
In our Art Form we are seeing many more Chef's that are making the transition from Ice to wood. Georg Maurus on the right is one of the many making the transition. Pictured along with Georg is Roland Karl, both from Germany.
Some of the last areas I'd like to post is some of the new tooling that was displayed at Ridgway, along with a Art walk that will feature Alot of the talent that was here this year. As you can see most of my posting was about the people of Ridgway that attended. They are really what this is all about. It was to give the flavor of the experience. So next year many can make up their mind and maybe come join us.
It truly is a wonderful experience and the friendships will last a life time.
Have a nice day,
Jerry
