My account of the red max comes from the experience of some of the most seasoned master carvers in the cs field. I'm surprised you've had so much trouble with reliability with Stihl. Their reliability is one of the reasons I, and so many of the loggers out in the big wood of Western logging, like them. Jack
Sounds good. I have fried my pile of saws, finally .they are all old, and I'm building a new collection, and getting ready to ebay the whole lot of old saws. my hotmail account is dead, my new email is chainsawbar25@yahoo.com.. Hope all is well with you and brians summer, looks like you've been busy hitting the fairs.
If Jen and Brian can't help you maybe you could contact these people: http://www.redmax.com/Page3354.aspx Looks like they run the Redmax USA I love my one I got from Jen and Brian. For logging I love my husky's. My 372XP is my best firewood cutter. I have logged all over USA and I think saw companies claim areas like beer sellers. Stihl's and Husky's are the best I feel but I been in areas where Homelites were the saw and many others. You have to buy the saw logging that you can get served fast in the area your cutting is the way I always went.
THanks guys I'll keep all this info in mind...
It's ironic that there are a number of stihl, and husky dealers in my area. a lot of dealers who sell only stihl are trying to tell me that husky is just a knock off of polan, but if you go to a dealer that sells both stihl ,echo and husky you will hear a different tale.stihl and echo are the only two independent vendors left, Meaning no other companies manufacture their saws for them. Husky on the other hand has gone the route of mass market ownership. No one owns them, only a few companies own stock in them, they own a bunch of other companies though. Husky bought into electrolux, who owns and handles manufacturing of Jonsered, homelite, mcculloc, polan, and a hand full of other low budget saws. Husky how ever, did make a wise move to buy partner industrial, a very high quality swedish manufacturer, and I have heard that they are buying into red max as well. So the myths being what they are, husky still has a swedish made saw, and they are ever expanding. Stihl and echo are independent company for now, and sachs sedis makes dolmar, makita, and wacker, and a hand full of other useless junk.
My dealer who sells both husky and stihl warned me that the stihls wouldn't hold up to carving, he was right. Carving and logging are two totally different uses on a saw. I go to one who sells two different kinds of saw, and I use his good advice to help me choose.

Sorry to hear you've had so much trouble with Stihl. However I've been carving with nothing but Stihl for 12 years full time. No outside income: wife's' job, retirement, trust fund, or whatever, you could say I've made a few carvings, and I've found them reliable and powerful. Jack www.chainsawjack.com
Thanks milt, and Jen for being direct, and real with me. Jerry sorry for the rant, but it gets old. What are these forums for???? Are they for one person's persistent pushing, and driving opinion? Is this their way of trying to strike up a conversation? My point is, no one sponsors me, and no one companie's saws are making me more of a living than an other's. one year it's stihl, the next it's echo, well I've wanted a red max for a few years, and Now , as I said in my op, I'm in the market for one, I'm not looking for any thing else, as I hoped I had made clear by now. THank you all, and have a great evening!
mark, you are on a Forum that hundreds of people read. I imagine if you make a comment here, you are bound to get some feedback, whether you asked for it or not. This is not a format where you can control the responses to your statements.
You need to learn to be ok with that.
This is stale b.s. Mark. You have a chip on your shoulder about how intense you are rugged dude. B-O-R-I-N-G. Get over your need for attention. You are predictible and you sound like an A--hole on here. Campbell will hug you, but I won't. This is the last time I will think thoughts about you.
you've been nice to my face, but man you really do a good job of trying to get all your looser friends to gang upon me. I thought Jerry said these boards weren't for personal battles, but looks to me like you're trying to start one here. So tell me squirrel , what exactly would you do to me the next time you saw me? I don't take well to threats, and I don't think other people will iether. It's unprofessional people like you that are fine proof as to why there are carvers who stay off these boards, and pretty much laugh at the carving community. you're one to talk about "B.S.'ing" on these message boards. But I guess you're allowed to and I'm not?
I don't recall calling any one any names, or trying to pick a fight with any one, I think you need to read what others have written before you all point the finger at just one person.
you be one paronooid dude my friend, relax man nobodys out to get you, none of us are appreciated as much as one would want to be. but thats the life of a carver.
A clear honest opinion. 'bout time some one had some sense of realitiy. Keep making dust whittllbig! It's obvious to me, that these boards are a great waste of my time, as well as trying to be an involved member of the carving community. I haven't been on these borads for a while, and I check this one today, and this post is still getting response. Well so I feel I must inform you all, I got hold of a g3200, and an ms200, and I got rid of the ms200 a few days after trying , and trying to get it to perform, and feel comfortable. To each their own I guess, the whole world doesn't revolve around just one person's preference. That's what makes us all unique.
