Attention Carvers! We are planning our first annual "Knox County Chainsaw Carving Festival" (a.k.a. Chazfest)! ALL CARVERS ARE INVITED TO ATTEND!

Event Date: September 25 - 27, 2009 (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
Event Location: Knox County fairgrounds Bicknell, IN. (47512)
Event Details:
General: This is a three day event where carvers can come together, have some fun, and (hopefully) sell some art! Each carver is expected to carve at least one piece for the auction with each carver receiving 50% of their auction sale price. The auction will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 on site. Prizes will be awarded after the auction based on public voting. The categories are as follows; Highest auction sale, favorite public vote, and favorite carver vote. Each of these winners will receive a chainsaw (so far, we have two Echo 306s and one Stihl MS 200). Every carver will receive gifts including carving books and more.

Lodging: Because the event is held at our local fairgrounds, camping for all carvers and their families is provided free of charge with access to on-site restroom and shower facilities. Any carver not wishing to camp is welcome to stay in a hotel nearby with discounted rooms. You may contact me to get more information on hotels.

Weather: We expect fairly mild weather at this time of year, with highs in the 60s and lows around 40, so please plan accordingly. If weather threatens to be a factor, the auction will be held inside.

Equipment: Logs will be provided. We will have green and yellow pine available from 20" diameter to 46" diameter. Electricity will be available at carving areas, so please bring extension cords for any tools that may need them. If you have a canopy or e-z up tent, please bring it to carve under. We will provide deer netting to wrap around all carving canopies and caution tape for the rear of the carving areas. If any of you have air compressors to bring, we would appreciate if you would let us share as needed!

Conveniences: There will be food vendors on site during the event. There is a grocery store, several restaurants, and two convenience stores nearby. We are hoping to have some of our meals and drinks provided to the carvers for free from local businesses and organizations. There is a bigger town 10 miles away that has a wide variety of businesses including Lowe's, Wal-mart, TSC, etc... for anything else you may need. Some of our carvers and volunteers will also be providing food for us.

Alcohol Policy: Alcohol is forbidden on the fairgrounds during the hours of the event. The public is allowed to be there from 8:30 am to 7:30 pm on Friday and Saturday, then 8:30 am to ? on Sunday. After the public is gone for the day, carvers are free to have alcohol as they wish.

Conduct: We would hope that all carvers and their families will behave in a professional and appropriate manner while attending this event.

Security: We will have 24 hour security provided by our local police department and their reserve force.

Liability: All attending carvers will be asked to sign a waiver/release form as a condition of the fairgrounds' insurance.

Attendance Confirmation: We are working to get t-shirts designed with attending carvers' names on them, so please let me know if you plan to come before August 1, 2009 if you can so that you may be included. Anyone not able to confirm before that date is still welcome to join us, they just won't be on the t-shirt.

Questions/Concerns/Contact Information: Please feel free to contact me or my wife with any questions or concerns or to confirm your attendance! My cell phone # is (812)899-6453, my home phone # is (812)324-2218, my e-mail address is tdneighbors@avenuebroadband.com.

Thanks to everyone who will be attending and thanks to the carvers who have encouraged me to take on this challenge! I originally had no plans to host an event, but with the overwhelming support from fellow carvers already, I knew my yard wasn't big enough for everyone I wanted to invite! I really hope everyone can make it, it should be some great times to learn from each other, share our art with my small corner of the world, and make some money!
