I have seen numbers that SCDA places on jerseys they authenticate, but I have never seen a chart of what they mean. Does A5 mean it's still legit? I assume they numbers have to do with their inspection combined with provenance, but can anyone tell me what all their numbers mean?

If you contact Troy Kinuen at SCDA I am sure he will give you the break down.

The A5 grade for jerseys is very common for post 1986 knits..What this means is that the jersey has all the characturistics of a jersey manufactured for the use by a major league player/team or possibley retail sale, but is whithout any form of provinance. This takes into account the fact that uniforms began to be manufactured in far greater quantities as their value was realized by major league baseball and the players themselves..For more details, you can see an article I wrote for SCD on page 38 of the April 30 2004 issue..
The web site is not down, it has never been up..It has been "relaunching soon" for well over a year..SCD promissed SCDA that they would get the web site up and running months ago..

During my trip to see the proof of the DiMaggio Streak bat, SCDA went over in detail how they grade items. Their new Letter of Opinion now has a checklist on it so you know why the item got the grade it did. Now if we could only get the slabbers to provide a similar checklist.
