I recently came into possession of a possible Munson game used bat from 78' or 79'. It is a 35" H&B Model S 44. BUT, the number on the knob is "56" in marker anyone know why that would be there? Any thoughts appreciated...Anyone have any Munson game used S44 bats?

Dave,
The only player I can find who wore number 56 for the Yankees between 1977-79 is Dave Righetti in 1979. Otherwise, it may be a non-roster player. Hope that helps.

I found another one. Doug Heinold 1977 #56, listed on roster, never played in majors, maybe just spring training?

I'm guessing that this means the bat can't be attributed to Munson..with that number on the knob...

I would say that with the number on the knob it would be very difficult to attribute to Munson. However, it is an interesting piece as Righetti is a prominent Yankee as well.
