Follow the link below. Beginning in their April catalog auction, Robert Lifson's Robert Edward Auctions will dislcose IN THE ITEM DESCRIPTION if the authetnicator is also the owner of the lot.

This is a huge step forward for the sports auction house system. Hopefully the rest of the major auction houses follow suit!

Post about Robert Edward ending undisclosed conflict of interest

March 30 2005, 12:14 AM

This was something that was posted a while ago and didn't get any comments. Just wondering what people thought about this new policy. Seems like an honest attempt to give the consumer more information before they spend the money. Thoughts?

Eric, I'm glad you revisited this topic. I don't think Robert received enough kudos for taking such bold, ethical action even while other major auction houses continue to hide such information.

The new catalog will be out in a couple of weeks and it will be interesting to openly see, for the first time, to what extent SCDA has engaged in a conflict of interest in a given auction.

My hope actually, is that prices for SCDA owned items will either meet or exceed items for which SCDA ownership has been concealed so that SCDA and Mastro Net will be persuaded that disclosure of conflict of interest won't be detrimental to their profits. If that happens, SCDA might finally be compelled to effectively address the issue of their practice of undisclosed conflict of interest.

I'm going to do my best to play "detective" to see if I can uncover some of SCDA's items in the current Mastro Auction and it'll be interesting to compare the two.
