Did any of you catch the Cincinnati/St. Louis game Tuesday night? I've heard of players' names being misspelled on jerseys, and have seen them misspelled on bats -- but I've never seen a mistake on the front of the jersey... until Tuesday. Aaron Harang's jersey front spelled out, "CNCINNATI." He wore it two innings before changing into a corrected jersey.
Apparently, clubhouse manager Rick Stowe admitted the typo was his gaffe. "I thought it was a practical joke or something," Harang said. "I've been wearing it the last three days, and I didn't even know it, because I've been wearing my jacket. I guess I don't go looking in the mirror at myself all the time to check." In the wake of this defeat, Harang said, "I'm not wearing that jersey anymore."
How could this happen? Dave Grob, knowing Cincinnati jerseys like you do, do you have any insights? I just find it so hard to believe that the front of the jersey could be screwed up. If nothing else, it will make a nice collectible and conversation piece.
This was a wonderful thing to see. I have had Reds knits jerseys that have had numbers sewn on and moved, not number changes, but the number moved, up/down and even to the other side of the jersey in the case of road vests.
Jerseys are man made and thus subject to the erros we all make in the work place. I had a wonderful KC A's home white 58 jersey that was all original..the tagging showed the number to be 32..the number on the back was 35..when you looked at the style of the numbering, the "5" when looked at upside down and fliped over from the back looked just like a "2" of the same style.
I always remind people that their will always be anomolies with uniforms, just be a little more suspect when they are on that of a player of prominance.
Since I am not really collecting Reds stuff like I used to, I will share this bit of advice..When doing E-Bay searches, try spelling Cincinnati:
Cincinatti
Cincnatti
Cincnati
You will find there are many who spell as good as I do..remember the search engine to find what you ask..if the listing is wrong, you will never find it unless you ask "the wrong right question..."
