What a wonderful question and a welcome distraction from many of the topics we have covered since getting this up and running..This question is so thought provoking, it may get me back to loading up on the lumber once again..
I think it would be great, and doable/affordable to focus on World Series moments..They could center around wire photos and other memoribillia as well for great display purposes..
Excluding a Babe Ruth bat to cover the 1932 World Series, how about:
1. Bobby Thompson (o.k...not a World Series shot..but it got them there)
2. Bill Mazeroski
3. Carlton Fisk
4. Reggie Jackson
5. Kirk Gibson
6. Joe Carter
O.K. I have six, but this lets you throw out the Thompson..
1) Bagwell have to be a black Louisville Slugger
2) Thome have to be a black Louisville or black Rawlings with handle tape. No blonde batting practice Louisvilles.
3) Arod have to be a black C271, not the other blonde LVS or Rawlings he uses in batting practice.
4) M. Ramirez would have to be a Rawlings or Louisville.
5) Chipper Jones have to be a Rawlings.
That is my current list, I am very picky about brands and use characteristics. I just find it wierd to see people wanting upwards of 800-900 for a Jeff Bagwell bat, a guy who is currently batting .210 and near to the end of his career.
Den - great question. My top five would include a couple of my childhood stars as well as childhood stars of my Dad's - because that's all I heard about growing up!
1. Babe Ruth
2. Lou Gehrig
3. Mel Ott
4. Roberto Clemente
5. Carl Yastrzemski
Babe Ruth...like everyone else.
Lou Gehrig..like everyone else.
Joe DiMaggio..why not?
Mickey Mantle...white letter Adirondack variety.
Thurman Munson...Of which I've had 5 of in the past but none now (shoot me, please)
