Ruth Called Shot Jersey

Folks,

I have had some great phone calls and some good questions sent via e-mail. Please feel free to contact me, but also, please consider posting your questions here for others to see.

In a nut shell, most have centered around "what will I be looking for" and "how does this compare to the Maris jersey.."

1. What I will be looking for? These questions fall into two catagories. First, and probably the easier of the two, is forming an opinion on if it is a Ruth jersey. Second, and the harder of the two is it the shirt he wore in the Called Shot.

This will begin with looking at the photos Grey Flannel is providing. I hope it is a mixture of shots of the game, team photos of the period, and other Ruth shots of the period as well. Since the event occured in 1932 and the Yankees appear to have adopted the NEW YORK for roads in 1931, this means the possibility of let's say four shirts that could be in the population (2 from 1931 and 2 from 1932). In cases like this where you are looking for ONE shirt, it is often necessary to show why it is not the others if possible...

2. This leads to things I did with the Maris jersey..that was easier for a couple of reasons. Those photographs had objects of known size to work with. The fact that it was home makes it easier as well because of the references you can make with the pinstripes. In addition, I was able to show why it was not the two 1961 homes that where already in the hobby.

As mentioned earlier, the key is the photographs..the thing to remember is the only shirt we are sure is the one he was wearing when "calling his shot" is the one in those photographs.

For those who like salacious topics, let me dissapoint you right away...I am not being paid for doing this nor do I know who owns this jersey. I am however rooting for Grey Flannel..I would like nothing better than to be able to come away with the opinion that this is in fact the "called shot" jersey...

Cheers,

Dave Grob
