hi all-
i recently purchased a 91-92' boggs gamer from the reputable john taube that i am very pleased with. on closer inspection of the handle i noticed that it might have been gently shaved at one point. there is still a healthy coat of tar on the handle, but it is thicker on the outer knob of the bat where boggs would sometimes place his left index finger. perhaps he shaved off some excess tar to keep a "new bat feel?" who knows! hopefully he was not holding it when he "fell" out of his car at spring training. that would explain the scissor like marks on the handle.
so my question is have you guys seen any other handle modifications on boggs bats? thanks a lot - joe

Hi Joe - I have owned close to 15 different Boggs bats over the years. At least three of them had slightly shaved handles, so your bat stacks up to what I have seen. I saw that bat you bought and its a classic Boggs gamer - pine tar in all the correct places and ball marks on the correct side of the barrel. That's the one thing you will find with true Boggs gamers - pine tar on the bottom handle and near the centerbrand - and the peppering of ball marks on the bottom of the barrel, with the other side of the barrel void of ball marks and typically a few cleat marks.
