getty image #51686087 proves it. it's a photo which is dateable to 1995 because of the texas rangers all star game patch on the uniform. it shows one of the jays wearing an alternate blue jersey. according to the hall of fame uniform database, the jays did not wear alternate blues in 1995.
in the example above, i ignored the getty date on the image because i know that getty dates are hit or miss.
the getty image above shows 2 players together; 1 from the rangers, 1 from the jays. the rangers player has a 1995 all-star game patch on his sleeve (the rangers hosted the all-star game in 1995). the image must therefore be from 1995. the jays player is wearing a blue alternate. therefore, the jays must've worn a blue alternate in 1995.
the uniform database does not show a blue alternate for 1995. the database is inconclusive. in fact, the database doesn't even show a patch for the 1995 rangers which they clearly did since they hosted the all-star game that year.
i thought the database was conclusive and complete. i was wrong apparently.
I looked in this database a couple weeks ago and found a few of the errors that were originally in the book. One I particularly recall is that they show the Orioles wearing an orange alternate jersey in 1984 (with the 30th Anniversary patch) when in actuality the Orioles only wore the standard white & grey that season . As an aside, Rich Dauer told me once that the Orioles abandoned the orange alternates in early 1983 (after wearing them since 1975) since they were considered bad luck (seems like they lost more than they won while wearing them). If you look at the entire 1983 post season photos from their championship run, you'll note that they never wore orange. Of course the orange alternate top made a comeback in 1987 (Rawlings).
