Stickers on Game Used Bats and Jerseys

I am not very fond of Mears, SCD, and all the grading services putting stickers on game used bats and jerseys. It absolutely takes away from the piece, especially when you may spend thousands for an item. Stickers come off bats very easily. I am contemplating buying a game used jersey that has a sticker - has anyone had success in removing these stickers off of jerseys - like SCD an Steiner stickers? Thanks

Use of Holograms and Sickers

August 7 2005, 9:21 PM

Folks may not believe this, but as a collector, I am not a hologram fan either. The reason we use them is two fold:

1. To ensure that if someone wishes to sell or resell an item when have worked on, the person they are selling it to as some way to see that it is the same item.

2. Likewise, if we are being asked to buy back an item because of an error, we want to unsure it is the same one as well.

I would love to be able to find an alterative to this in terms of product or method and would welcome suggestions or comments.. I suspect there will be any number of posts that say "I don't care about your stickers or letters" and that's fine. What I am looking for is nothing more than what I expressed above, alternatives to something as a collector I am not fond of either.

As a collector, would it be asking too much for dealers to place their holograms in a less obtrusive spot -- in the tail, say, or near the tags, rather than SQUARELY ON THE UNIFORM NUMBER, in the grand tradition of ASI? (Those dog-ugly ASI holograms were dealbreakers every time.)

what i did with my jersey that has sticker on it, i just peeled it off CAREFULLY, then save that sticker on the COA paper or any IMPT papers. But if you experinced after peeling off sticker and got some stick on the jersey, use DUCT TAPE and press it on the "stick" area, and it will be ALL GONE

good luck
thanks

Dave, how about . . .

August 11 2005, 9:17 PM

. . . putting the sticker on the inner portion of a jersey like the ink stamps on the SF Giants shirts?

those stickers are all for looks and marketing! people see a sticker and "uh, ah, it's real"! all that does is make someone have to pay more than what it is really worth. unfortunately, it's all about money! fake it, put a sticker on it, "it's real now" and sell it for $1,000,000! it's a racket i tell you!
