Please post a clear photo(s) of the signature and any logos. You will receive a response(s) in regard to the items authenticity. Perhaps this will save you 150.00 +/- for the authenticating fee.
BY LOOKING AT THIS PIC, CAN ANYONE TELL IF IT IS A GOOD SIG OR A FAKE ONE? MY COWORKER HAS HAD THIS FOR SOME 25 YEARS AND WANT TO SELL IT!
OK, HOW DO I POST A PIC!?
There are honest and hobby respected autograph experts in various parts of the country. Incudes James Spence Authentication (PA), Mike Gutierrez (Pheonix), PSA/DNA and Global Authentication (both California) and Richard Simon (New York City). Some of the folks will appear at shows in different parts of the country, so it's possible to meet with one of them in person no matter where you live. If the ball is genuine, an LOA from any of these would enhance the value and salability.
If the ball is genuine and a primo example, an even better idea might be to consign it to a reputable auction house for sale. The ball would reach a wide audience of people with $$ and the auction house would handle the authentication (many using the just listed authenticators). Good auction houses include Mike Gutierrez Auctions, MastroNet, Lelands, Robert Edward Auctions, Sotheby's, Sporcarts Plus.
If the ball is genuine, your friend will get good money one way or the other. Ruth autographs balls always have been and will be in high deman.
I'd hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I highly doubt that that is an authentic Ruth signature. It doesn't match up to any of the authentic examples I've seen. The ball looks fairly new, as well. Are there any commissioners written on the ball?
