I have noticed on EBAY that there seems to be Endless Amounts of mostly current Baseball,Basketball "Un-Used Authentic properly tagged jersey's. Where is all this stuff coming from that is usually in the hands of one Ebay Seller. Is anything Safe anymore.
Let's firstly thank the sellers for calling it "unused" and selling it as such. The problem then is the "unused" getting into the hands of someone who buys it as "unused" and sells it as "Game Used".
If you have ever been to a locker room and seen some of the players have a 1/2 dozen unused gamers there hanging in their locker you can see that many can make it out there. Then of course you have the salesman samples and extras ordered by the teams and the authentics getting sold as gamers.
I'm a lot older and a little wiser now. I once thought that a "game-issued" jersey was a significant collectible. Now, I just forget them. As the "game-used" jerseys of today, there are just too darned many of them to merit the money people pay for them. I would be a lot choosier about my collecting (If I had any money left!).
Andrew- You said players get about 1/2 dozen uniforms. Are you exgagerating a little to prove a point about the many styles there are or do you actually mean there could be six(6) set 1-2002's of a single style from a player?
Robert - I certainly can't speak for all teams and all players. Here's what I have seen. The players when they arrive to the ballpark will have their locker set with a game jersey and usually 1 backup gamer (depending on team) and 1 or 2 BP jerseys and depending on teams that have alternative gamer jerseys they may have their "Friday Night" or other type of jersey in there. That would be your end of your lineup players locker.
Your superstars locker and guys with memorabilia contracts have a lot more. You would think they are changing shirts every couple of innings. I hate to say it, but its a business. Simple supply and demand.
I bought an NBA gamer of a backup guard and the the LOA from the team said it was worn for EVERY home game during the season. I am sure Michael Jordan's locker was different. I have found almost the same with NHL jerseys, they get ripped and then repaired and they go through 3 or 4 home jerseys a season.
Baseball and football jerseys as we all know in the past few years are different.
