Since June, the Giants Dugout Stores have been selling blank fully tagged Gigantes jerseys leftover from the May 22nd and 23rd games against the Oakland A's. They have size 42, 44, 48, 50, and 52 jerseys tagged "2005." For $10 per number, the Giants team seamstress will also sew on numbers from the same stock used for the player jerseys.
The game-used Gigantes jerseys, except for Felipe Alou's, which was donated to the Baseball Hall of Fame, and Barry Bonds', which he likely kept, were auctioned on mlb.com for the benefit of the Hispanic Heritage Baseball Museum to be constructed in San Francisco. And those auctioned have the MLB hologram attached. There were no additional game-used Gigantes jerseys and no such jersey as a game-issued jersey from the May 22nd or 23rd games. With this in mind, do not be surprised if unscrupulous persons start offering game-used Barry Bonds, Moises Alou or Omar Vizquel, or others without MLB holograms, or offering the same jerseys as "game-issued."
On a more positive note, the Giants will be creating a second set of Gigantes jerseys for the September 12th game against the San Diego Padres. This is a recent development, and it has not been decided if or how the jerseys will be released to the public.
Randy - That would be a real joke to see a Bonds game used of these jerseys since Barry definitely didn't play. I think it was during this series that they placed Barry officially on the DL.
The Giants honored Marichal by wearing uniforms in Spanish for first time which makes them a great collectible.
The jerseys are $175 plus tax. And Andrew, I agree with you that any Bonds Gigantes jersey offered would be a "joke." But I have been collecting game-used jerseys and equipment for nearly 25 years, and have never seen as many "jokes" as I have over the last two-to-three years. That's why this forum is great. It allows collectors to share information and, hopefully, avoid the "jokes."
i emailed the guy selling it. we will see how he answers my question. really guys, someone might get hosed if they don't know what they are looking at!
The ones that Bonds orders, wears, and sells himself all have the Bonds Authenticated marking. However, if jerseys are ordered by the team or if the shirts are salesman samples (made by the manufacturer and sent to the team without the team actually ordering the shirts), they would be game ready jerseys without the Bonds Authenticated marking. If I am wrong about this, please let me know...but this has always been my understanding. It's similar to the lovely set 3 jerseys that Raffy, AROD, and others ordered themselves when they were with the Rangers. The team ordered jerseys and the players ordered separate jerseys. All are game ready jerseys, but the shirts ordered by the players had set 3 tags and the jerseys ordered by the Rangers had an additional serial number tag sewn into the inside of the jersey so that the jerseys that were really worn in games could be tracked.
