Team Index Bat?

I was looking over the preview for MastroNet's upcoming auction and at the Ted Williams game used bat that's listed in it. What exactly is a "Team Index" bat? The Ted Williams gamer is being described as this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Tim

Tim,

I think it means that it was team-ordered and they matched the model number and bat specs to the team order for that year. I haven't seen the listing, so I could be wrong... but that is how I've interpreted that term in the past. Many bats that were ordered by the teams have been used by the players...but they often sell for less as a lot of collectors want bats that were specifically ordered by the player himself. Sometimes the team-ordered bats are quite different from the bats that the players order for themselves ... in these cases, a safe bet is that they were ordered for purposes other than use by the players who are listed on the bat barrels (batting practice, use by other players, promotional use, team gifts and sales, etc.). The Kid was so incredibly particular about his bats that this comparison would be something you'd want to take a close look at.

Ted Williams Bat

Thanks for the insight, Reid. I had thought it was something along those lines as it was never mentioned that the bat was specficially matched to H&B's factory records. I have my eyes on a few items in the auction, but will probably hold off on the Splending Splinter's bat.

Thanks,
Tim
